The first paragraph of this article is a bit of a mess. It jumps from topic to topic, and is leaving a lot to be desired in references, let alone organization. If you were going to add a paragraph about cochlear synaptopathies, you would probably need to break the first paragraph up into a series of similar paragraphs with a better explanation of each mechanism, and or cause. Some cartoon of a functioning synapse with possible impediments to normal function might be a good figure, or one related to a specific synaptopathy listed. Just adding a structured paragraph about one subtype would leave the whole article lopsided and evident of even more work needing to be done. Perhaps an intro paragraph could explain the basics of a synapse and what can cause it to fail, then a smaller paragraph on the remaining topics mentioned with cochlear ones being the primary example with the largest contribution.
