welcome!

Hello Blackknight12, I came cross some your edits and those edits convinced me you are an enthusiastic editor. But enthusiasm alone won't make you a good editor. some of your edits certainly looks bit lousy such as this. You can't leave articles half created. so read Wikipedia:Writing better articles. I hope it'll make you a better edotor. Happy New Year! and With Regards,--chanakal (talk) 04:01, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Sri Lanka Navy Seal.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Sri Lanka Navy Seal.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 08:00, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

What are the sources for the five different images in this montage? --Hammersoft (talk) 14:07, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Taking images from multiple websites and creating a montage with them as you did with this image does not transfer copyright rights from them to you. I note in particular that this image has a copyright notice stamped on it, and further that we do not know the copyright status of the other four images in this montage. I have tagged the image for speedy deletion as a blatant copyright violation. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:15, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation

I noticed that you showed an interest in Sri Lanka related articles. Please take a look at WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation, a bipartisan effort to improve collaboration on and coverage of the Sri Lankan Civil War. Among other things, we collected a number of recommendations for getting your point across while keeping out of trouble. We're here to help! In any event, we invite you to leave us a message on our talk page.

Happy editing! Particularly, your input on this discussion would be helpful, since it concerns a template you have created. Chamal talk 11:42, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Copyright problems with File:Sarath Fonseka.jpg

Hello. Concerning your upload of the image File:Sarath Fonseka.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted images obtained from other sources, without the permission of the author(s). This image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.army.lk/editor/images/diwan/COMD_Web_Photo_LARGE_1.jpg. As a copyright violation, File:Sarath Fonseka.jpg falls under the speedy deletion criteria and has been deleted.

If you believe that the image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under a free license then you should do one of the following:
  • If you have permission from the author, leave me a message explaining the details and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the <pick a free licence> or released into the public domain leave me a message at my talk page with a link to where I can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on [[Talk:File:Sarath Fonseka.jpg]].
  • Or alternately drop me a note about this file if I have misunderstood something.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on File:Sri Lankan Cricket team evacuating Gaddafi Stadium.PNG, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because File:Sri Lankan Cricket team evacuating Gaddafi Stadium.PNG is an image with a clearly invalid fair use tag; or it is an image that fails some part of the non-free content criteria and the uploader has been given 48 hours' notification (for images uploaded after 2006-07-13) or seven days' notification (for images uploaded before that date). (CSD I7).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting File:Sri Lankan Cricket team evacuating Gaddafi Stadium.PNG, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. screen capture free use rationale

Please read the rationale for screen-captures, it clearly doesn't allow these images, as it is to be used exclusively for commentary of the TV station itself. Images from news items are specifically excluded. In general, images from photos or videos from reliable sources are not available for fair use and are generally not free. I know that Al-Jazeera has released some images as CC http://cc.aljazeera.net/ but I do not see any for this incident.--Cerejota (talk) 13:33, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Kandy City Logo.PNG)

Thanks for uploading File:Kandy City Logo.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:35, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Comment

Hi,

Thank you for your support but don't know if you have already noticed but 'Sri Lankan Tamil'section, has some sort of restriction for editing. Apparently its for the moment. Its unfortunate, because I was about to put in a important reference concerning the 'Eastern Tamils'. Basically the reference of the book by K D DeSilva. That has the letters by Emerson Tennat.

I am sure, you know how important it is to have the truth on the Wikipedia website and all sides be represented and not just allow the narrow minded terror supporters side.

Hi again lol,

I have re-added the deleted text and have also put in a lot more references.

I know who deleted it plus put the editing restriction, he is a Tamil guy called 'Obi2canibe'. It is really silly, that he can talk about rights but that right involves restricting my right to put the true facts out their. U know??

Guyan46 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Guyan46 (talkcontribs) 17:55, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

That is an outrageous allegation. I have not reverted any of your edits since 10 May. I always edit whilst logged on. I am not 78.105.34.218. Nor am I using any sockpuppets. Why do you want to make this personal? Obi2canibe (talk) 19:04, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

This edit of yours is unacceptable

  • you have described my edit as vandalism, even though I have discussed my edit on talk, while I fail to see any justification on your part on the article talkpage
  • the article is under special restrictions. There is a giant template asking you "Do not insert unreferenced text." You have restored text that was removed on grounds of being unreferenced.

Combining these two points, your revert was clearly disruptive. If you continue to abuse your editing privileges in this way, the sanctions detailed under WP:DISRUPT will apply. --dab () 11:34, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

if you continue to restore unreferenced material without as much as the pretense of discussion or presenting a source, I will take it upon myself to block you. --dab () 12:07, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I already gave you a source which verifies my restoration of the page, and a reason justifying it. If you want to discuss it then we shall discuss it but don't go around threatening to personally block someone for something as small and as stupid as a couple of words that may not have been directly referenced. As I already gave in the Talk:Sri Lanka page here is a reference from a website of an organization for the Mahavamsa [1] which clearly states "the people who forged our nation, from the coming of Vijaya in 543 BCE". Thanks

Major favor

Hello I wanted to ask you something. I saw that you update the Sri Lankan civil war articles preaty much so could you do me a favor. I made major edits last night to 2008–2009 Sri Lankan Army Northern offensive given the latest developments, but an administrator I have a serious beef with reverted all of my edits and will block me if I come near the article again. Could you please see what edits I made and he reverted and if you could write in your own words some of the material that you think needs to be mentioned. I think that the four things that need to be done are:
1. Infobox - add in LTTE casualties part 2,515 killed in 2009 (SLA claim) and add this reference [2] beside the existing two.
2. Casualties section - Add a sentance Another 2,515 LTTE militants were reported to have been killed between January and May 2009., the ref I already gave you can be used, and I think the place for the sentance is in the paragraph about the LTTE's casualties, right before the sentance on the SLA's casualties by the end of October last year.
3.LTTE's last stand section - I think this paragraph should be put at the end of the section The Tigers managed to hold out against the SLA for another month, but by mid-May the end was near for the LTTE. In the first two weeks of May tens of thousands of refugees poured out of rebel territory after the military made wholes in the LTTE's defences. In these final stages of the war, between May 7 and May 14, around 1,000 civilians were killed in the fighting, mostly by SLA artillery fire into the no-fire zone. By May 15, all civilians had been evacuated from the no-fire zone and the military stated the war will be over in 48 hours. In those last 48 hours of fighting the LTTE conducted massive suicide bomb attacks on advancing troops and were in general not surrendering but dying in battle. Early on May 16, the SLA forces coming in from the north linked up with the forces coming in from the south on the coastline, effectively cutting off the Tigers from the sea. Now they were boxed in and surrounded by the SLA on a territory only 1.2 square mile in size, with their back against the Mullaittivu lagoone., you can use this ref [3]
4.Final defeat section - I think this section should be made as a sub-section of LTTE's last stand. It should look something like this:

The same day that the coastline fell, on May 16, 2009, President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared military victory over the Tigers after 26 years of conflict. Also during the day, for the first time in their long struggle against the Sri Lankan government, the rebels were offering to lay down their weapons in return for a guarantee of safety. Sri Lanka's disaster relief and human-rights minister Mahinda Samarasinghe stated 'The military phase is over. The LTTE has been militarily defeated. Now the biggest hostage rescue operation in the world has come to a conclusion. The figure I have here is since 20th of April, 179,000 hostages have been rescued.'

On May 17, a group of about 70 Tigers tried to cross the lagoone to the other side in six boats and escape, but they were all killed by the SLA. Also, SLA special forces rescued seven POW's (three soldiers and four sailors). The four sailors had been in captivity since November 2006. During the day, rebel official Selvarasa Pathmanathan conceded defeat saying in an email statement "This battle has reached its bitter end". However the rebel leader Velupillai Prabhakaran had yet to be captured or confirmed killed so the threat of a new guerrilla offensive was still a possibility. Several rebel fighters committed suicide when they became surrounded and it was unknown if Prabhakaran was among them. Late in the evening, SLA special forces conducted a raid in which they killed: Charles Anthony, the eldest son of the LTTE leader, Balasingham Nadesan, the leader of the political wing of the LTTE, Seevaratnam Puleedevan, head of the LTTE's peace secretariat, and Ramesh, a top military leader.

5.LTTE's last stand sectio - Final defeat sub-section - And finaly I think you should write about the LTTE's leader, how he was killed this morning, driving in an armored van (ambulance) straight into the SLA's lines along with a bus full of his fighters. And how he and the others died, mention the Naval and Intelligence wing commanders that were also killed.

If you agree with any of these sugestions please make the edits, as it is now the article doesn't have too much of an informated ending. Cheers!188.2.194.99 (talk) 13:19, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I saw what you put in the article and it looks realy, realy great and I thank you, a lot, but you left out the number of Tigers that's claimed by the SLA to have died in 2009 and the paragraph on the end of LTTE's last stand section about the fall of the coastline on May 16, the government realy celebrated the linking of the two SLA forces from the north and south. Also, here are the references for the POW's [4], the raid that killed the son of the leader [5] and the killing of the 70 rebels in the boats [6], I forgot to give them to you earlier. List of ions at Ion

Hi, I noticed that you added a new table listing many ions to Ion. Is there a reason this is not merged with the existing table? Also, per the talk page, it seems that making a large list of ions is not really very useful. The existing tables were trimmed down from the original long list based on this discussion; I'm not sure if it should have more or less entries. At any rate, we do have a category for ions, so I'm inclined to just delete these long lists; but I thought we should discuss this first. Thanks!—Tetracube (talk) 16:49, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

As do Battle of Vidattaltivu, Battle of Chalai, DeLon and Battle of Paranthan. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:31, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Operation Sath Jaya also pasted material from previously published sources. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:44, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Due to the seriousness of these issues, which have continued after your previous warning and which you seem to have willfully ignored here, I have converted your block to indefinite. I am requesting feedback from other administrators on this indefinite block at the Administrator's noticeboard. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:38, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

You have said that I have pasted content from this site but that is untrue. I have never seen or been on to that page of the site and I do not regard it as credible. Tamilnet is a completely racist and biased source which I do not use.

I do admit that have pasted content from sites without following the proper Wikipedia guidelines, I will rewrite my contributions correctly and I will make sure this does not happen again.--Blackknight12 (talk) 15:30, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Whether you used that specific source or another with the same material, the preexistence of that source proves you did not author the text. Pasting content from other sites violates Wikipedia's policies and United States copyright law and represents a serious legal threat to the project. Cleanup of your contributions is ongoing and will likely take some time. Can you explain why you persisted in pasting material from other sources after being advised that you must stop in March? At heart here, of course, is whether or not the project can rely on you to abide by this policy, since you did not before and seem to have instead tried deliberately to avoid detection. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:39, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

I pasted material after the warning because I just didn't happen to read the warning properly, it was a mistake and not because I was trying to avoid detection. All my contributions are of good faith and not vandalism. I will make sure I will follow Wikipedia's policies in the future.

I'm not sure how one can mistakenly remove a tag that says, "Please do not remove or change this Copyvio message until the issue is settled" and "Do not edit this page until an administrator has resolved this issue." In the absence of any communication with the other editor or explanation in edit summary, it is difficult to interpret that in good faith. Another administrator and I have been going through your text contributions, and it seems that you have pasted text into several dozen articles. We need to be very clear that you cannot place text on Wikipedia that you find anywhere else, in book or on website, unless you are able to prove that the material is public domain or licensed compatibly with GFDL. It's not enough to think that it may be; it must be demonstrable.
As Wikipedia's copyright policy says:

Never use materials that infringe the copyrights of others. This could create legal liabilities and seriously hurt Wikipedia. If in doubt, write the content yourself, thereby creating a new copyrighted work which can be included in Wikipedia without trouble.

If you are unsure if the material is usable, you can't use it. You also need to understand the requirements of Wikipedia's license, so that you don't inadvertently violate the copyright policy by placing material here from sites that have similar, but incompatible licensing. We do not accept material licensed for non-commercial use only. We do not accept material that requires notification on reuse or that forbids modification.
While you may use limited, brief quotations from copyrighted text in accordance with the policy and guideline at non-free content, you must mark the text that you have copied with quotation marks and properly source it. Otherwise, you need to put it completely in your own words, which means changing language and structure. There is a user essay at Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing which gives a little information on how much reformulation is necessary. Very occasionally, small amounts of text will be so straightforward and uncreative that no revision is necessary. For example, "On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland." The danger of relying on this too greatly is that if you take multiple such runs of text from the same source, you are likely to be infringing on other elements, such as creative structure. Also, the threshold for "creative language", as utilized by the US courts that govern Wikipedia, is much lower than many people realize. It is not wise to rely on this exception except in the most obvious of cases.
Given your stated intention to follow policy henceforth, I will lift your block. If you have any questions about these policies or guidelines, or if you aren't sure about your use of text, please seek feedback from contributors who are experienced in that area. For instance, you're welcome to come by my talk page at any time. I would not wish you to inadvertently infringe, since it's possible that any future infringements will lead to a permanent block of your account. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:29, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Towns in North Western Province, Sri Lanka requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Proposed deletion of Australia – Sri Lanka relations

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Australia – Sri Lanka relations, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No content; only text is a repeat of the title.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. –Juliancolton | Talk 20:26, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Paraphrasing/rewriting

Hi. Further revision is necessary at Talk:Battle of Chalai/Temp. Compare this section of the source:

Sri Lanka Army sources said that the LTTE had sent a child suicide bomber to attack the Army 55 Division frontline yesterday (Feb 4). According to the sources, the child suicide bomber possibly between 13-16 years of age had exploded himself around 8.30 PM after reaching the soldiers in guise of a civilian seeking refuge with them. The sources said that explosion could harm only one soldier as the others had managed to move into safer distance after identifying the suspicious behaviour of the suicide bomber. The sources added citing eyewitness account that child soldier had behaved in a manner as he had been drugged or severely harassed before the mission.

With the article:

Sri Lanka Army sources stated that during the battle the LTTE had sent a child suicide bomber to attack the Army 55 Division on February 4. The child suicide bomber is thought to be between 13–16 years of age [and] exploded himself around 8.30 PM after reaching the soldiers [as if a] civilian seeking refuge. The child soldier...in a manner as [if] he had been drugged or severely harassed before the mission exploded the bomb wounded one soldier.

(I've added the bolding to help demonstrate the problem.) We can utilize brief segments of quotation, but otherwise have to put it completely in our own words. Cutting out a few here and there or altering "in guide of" to "as if a" is not sufficient. (There's a helpful user essay about this, at WP:Close paraphrasing.)

Material such as this could be revised completely in a style like so:

On February 4th, at about 8:30 p.m., a 13-16 year-old child approached the Army 55 Division frontline as if he were seeking refuge. The boy, whom witnesses described as behaving as if previously "drugged or severely harassed", was not a civilian, but a suicide bomber who wounded one soldier when he triggered his bomb.[1]

(If you like that rephrasing, feel free to use it. Of course, you are welcome to rewrite it differently if you'd prefer, so long as you put everything except brief direct quotations into your own words.)

Please look over this temporary page again to see if other material draws too heavily on those sources. I'll be happy to reevaluate when you believe it has been sufficiently revised. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:29, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Battle of Paranthan/Temp needs to be modified again also. For a single example, the source says, "Unable to withstand the fury of the combined Army and Air force onslaught, LTTE terrorists withdrew from the town in total disarray. Having inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy, troops are now consolidating defences and advancing further east of the Paranthan junction, security sources added." The article says, "Unable to withstand the fury of the combined Army and Air force onslaught, LTTE terrorists withdrew from the town in total disarray. Having inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy, troops are now consolidating defences and advancing further east of the Paranthan junction, security sources added." Since the source is not licensed compatibly with Wikipedia, we are not able to use this text. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:43, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
There is also still some close paraphrasing in Talk:Battle of Vidattaltivu/Temp. For example, the article says:

The loss of Vidattaltivu continued that army's advance to end the war and proofed to be a fatal blow on LTTE as they had lost their most important Sea base. The Tigers were forced to shift their Sea-Tiger assets to a makeshift camp further Northwards with the loss of its well-established sea-borne operation base.

The source says:

Defence observers are in the view that the loss of Vidattaltivu would cast a fatal blow on LTTE as it has lost the most important Sea-Tiger base in the present context. According to them the terrorists has no other option than to shift their Sea-Tiger assets to a makeshift camp further Northwards with the loss of its well-established sea borne operation base.

This is a start, but as you can see there are stretches of verbatim language. You might consider revising passages like this:

Vidattaltivu was a well-established, strategically important base for the LTTE Sea-Tiger assets, the loss of which forced the sea-borne operations of the LTTE northwards to an improvised location.

I myself often find it useful to rearrange material in this way. Trying to maintain the same structure of the original source while not infringing is very difficult. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:51, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Sri Lankan people

I see in your recent edits you have been adding Category:Sri Lankan people to articles, I don't wish to discourage your editing but given the wide scope of such a category adding it is unnecessary. A category like this should only be used to store subcategories and articles within it should be placed in the appropriate subcategory, for example Farveez Maharoof already has Category:Sri Lankan cricketers so there was no need to add Category:Sri Lankan people. I have therefore placed the CatDiffuse template at the top of the category page to advise all users not to use it. Thank you. --Jpeeling (talk) 21:07, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

List of St Peter's College, Colombo alumni

Thank you very much in taking this topic from the school article, St Peter's College, Colombo and adding it on to another new page. Actually I tried twice and failed. Since I am a new member and only contributed just on few pages it is a great help to me.Thank you,Godfrey Walawage (talk) 00:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Merge

Is there any particular reason to create Template:Sri Lankan Civil War while we already have Template:Sri Lankan Conflict. The two templates are the same. Why don't you expand the T:Sri Lankan Civil War instead of creating a new one, or merge them together, or rename the T:Sri Lankan Conflict as T:Sri Lankan Civil War. Proposed deletion of List of St Peter's College, Colombo alumni

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of St Peter's College, Colombo alumni, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

list filled with non notable entries

Genetic relationship edit war

Hey Blackknight12, Can you please get involved on the "Genetic relationships" discussion of the sinhalese article. It's turned into a edit war and it would be good to get the consensus on what people think the entry should be.

Many thanks, Wikinpg (talk) 19:25, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Re:Operation Unceasing Waves III

Hi Blackknight, I am sorry for the late response, editing after exactly one week here. I checked the articles. I think best thing to do is tag them with {{mergefrom}} and {{mergeto}} templates. Then initiate a discussion in the destination page's talkpage. Hope this would help. Regards!--Chanaka L (talk) 09:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Redirect of Ceylon

When your change to the redirect was reverted, you should have initiated a discussion of the issue instead of repeating the same edit -- please see WP:BRD. Among other things, changing this redirect requires reviewing and possibly changing over one thousand links to Ceylon in other articles, so it is disruptive if the redirect is changed frequently. Please don't engage in edit warring. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 10:33, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I need your help blacknight12

Some one keeps deleting sections of the section titled GENECTIC STUDIES in the Sinhalese people page. I see even you have undid vandalism in this section and I thank you

I included a university of Stanford study conducted in 2003/2004 on South Asian ethnic groups including the Sinhalese. The study has used the methods of MX1 Locus, mtDNA analyses, Y-chromosome analyses, sequencing and data analysis to carry out the study of all the major South Asian ethnic groups.

Some one keeps deleting sections of it claiming that the word "India" is mentioned in the Stanford source. But the study in Stanford clearly states multiple times that it has included Sinhalese and Sri Lanka as well on the studies. So I think it a valid source must be included in the Sinhalese people section.

Can you or someone please curtail the editing on this page or stop people of removing chunks of info and sources.

Best

The vandalism guy

I think it's best to ignore him (he's not an admin so he can't block anyone) and get a source for Elara's status as invader. I'll try to get some up there maybe.

The whole article is pretty bad though. I wish there were some Sinhalese around to fix our articles on here. :( HumanFrailty (talk) 05:09, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Help

I am agree with you when you're saying Elara is an invading South Indian King. But to have a reference is always better. Don't use internal articles as a reference. I saw his edit summary which I think some what a strong accusation. I don't think ignore him is a good idea as advocated by HF. Because you might get into an editwar if you do so. I advise you to resolve this in diplomatic way as much as you can. Try WP:DISPUTE perhaps. Best!--Chanaka L (talk) 05:39, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on User:Blackknight12/List of historical Sri Lankan overseas military operations, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. BlueLankan 21:08, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Your edits to Radala

Hello, I am curious as to why you removed certain categories from the article Radala. The article is poorly done and also there is lot of POV comments. However, I thought the article belongs to those categories. Is there a larger reason behind your edits that I am missing? Ritigala Jayasena (talk) 04:35, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, yes I added Sinhalese castes because it is a Sinhalese caste then I removed Sri Lankan caste system because the Category Sinhalese castes is already in the Category Sri Lankan caste system. I removed the Category Sri Lankan society because it is too broad and that the Categories Sinhalese castes and Sri Lankan caste system are both in the Category Sri Lankan society. Its a bit confusing but I hope you understand.--Blackknight12 (talk) 07:13, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism- Sri Lankan Airlines

Hi
Since I'm fairly new around this place I'm wondering about what constitutes vandalism?

I'm referring to the following edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=SriLankan_Airlines&diff=315617841&oldid=315605783 where my edit was tagged as 'vandalism'.

I couldn't care less if my edits are reverted, but I dislike being called or accused of vandalism for no apparent reason, especially as I was editing the article out of good faith, to make it easier for all to read (and corrected the name and fleet sections of the article).

Hoping for some help from an experienced user so that I don't offend anyone else in the future.

Take care Regards
zzzz2

Hi I'm sure your edits were of good faith, but you seemed to remove information from the article without an explantion in the edit summary or the talk page [10] and did not refer to a source when doing so. No, I'm not attached to SPUR in any way.--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:03, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Templates

Can you tell me where the above templates are going to be used, if there only usage is on the Sri Lanka national cricket team article I really don't see the point of not just placing the tables in the article. --Jpeeling (talk  contribs) 18:15, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

These templates specifically are for the Sri Lanka national cricket team article but they can be made for others, which I was meaning to do, the Indian article also has the same as does the English one.--Blackknight12 (talk) 21:42, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes but the England and India tables are in the article whereas you've put the Sri Lanka tables into a template, I'm just wondering why. If there's no other articles in which you plan to use them I shall move the content back into article space. --Jpeeling (talk  contribs) 21:52, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I have put them in tables so it is harder for people to vandalize and that so when editing you dont accidently modify it, plus it is easier to move around if the layout was to be changed.--Blackknight12 (talk) 21:56, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
I've checked the history of the article and can't find any vandalism to the tournament section in the few months before you moved this to a template. It does help with moving around the layout, but how often is that going to happen. I don't understand the accidently editing point. The guideline on template namespace does state: "Templates should not normally be used as a substitute for usual article content, in the main article namespace" and I fail to see a reason why this should be an exception. --Jpeeling (talk  contribs) 22:13, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Well then if that is the case then go ahead with moving the data from the template to the article.--Blackknight12 (talk) 22:17, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey, thanks I will but its going to have to wait until the weekend, can I also ask you to help further expand this article, when you can, because it is a very important one being the first recorded Sri Lankan State. Thanks--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:32, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
You should submit it within 5 days of creation. I would help you with refs and ELs then. Best!--Chanaka L (talk) 05:40, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
I nominated an alternative hook at DYK. A hook is a fact taken straight from the source. So therefore don't try to cramp many facts into one hook. Hope that'll do. Best--Chanaka L (talk) 03:05, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Could you let me know why you removed the content about the Jaffna Kingdom from the above article with this edit? I'm assuming it's because you've created List of monarchs of the Jaffna kingdom but I don't understand the rationale as to why you've chosen to exile only the Jaffna Kingdom, a Sri Lankan monarchy, to a new article whilst keeping the rest, including the non-Sri Lankan monarchies (Europeans, Indians, South East Asian), in the article.--obi2canibetalk contr 16:36, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Its because I created List of monarchs of the Jaffna kingdom. This page is a mess and is complicated and I am still in the process of rewriting it, I am not "exiling" the Jaffna Kingdom I am also planing to make List of monarchs of Maya Rata and List of monarchs of Ruhuna and possibly others, as for the issues concerning non-Sri Lankan monarchies such as the Europeans and Indians, (would you point out the South East Asians), these monarchs such as Rajaraja Chola I to Kulothunga Chola I actually controlled most of the island, becoming king of it and it becoming part of there empire, this was the same with the Britsh. There is still a lot to do, so please be patient. Thanks--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:46, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
OK, I'll wait and see. The point I was making, albeit not well, about the non-Sri Lankan monarchies is that although they may have ruled large parts of Sri Lanka, their origin/base/capital was overseas and Sri Lanka was just a colony, whereas Jaffna Kingdom was a local Sri Lankan monarchy. The Cholas were in my opinion an Indian monarchy, not a Sri Lankan monarchy. I'm not an expert in the subject but I thought that parts of the island were ruled by Malaysian/Indonesian states for a period. Or maybe I'm just imagining it!--obi2canibetalk contr 18:23, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
I think I see your point, I have removed the Portuguese and Dutch representatives of Sri Lanka because they never ruled the country. The Cholas are and Indian monarchy and the reason they are there is because they invaded and annexed Sri Lanka into their empire, while the then current royals were not in power. I think the South East Asian monarch you were thinking of was Chandrabhanu a Thai monarch who invaded Sri Lanka a couple of times and ended up taking the Jaffna Kingdom.--Blackknight12 (talk) 07:25, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Kingdom of Vijithapura

Hi :) I was wondering if you have any sources mentioning the kingdom of Vijitapura. I haven't heard about this, and all the books I have say that the few rulers before the Anuradhapura kingdom ruled from "Upatissagama" (and Tambapanni before that). List of monarchs of Sri Lanka also mentions this, but I don't know if this is a mistake or not. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 10:35, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey, actually i'm in the process of making the page as well check User:Blackknight12/Kingdom of Vijithapura.--Blackknight12 (talk) 10:41, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Only two of the sources you have listed there actually mention the "kingdom of vijithapura", and both these are on works by Codrington. All the others talk about the city of Vijithapura, which AFAIK was never a capital city. I consulted a lot of books when creating Anuradhapura Kingdom, and I never saw a reference to a "kingdom of Vijithapura" anywhere. That's why I find this unusual. Even the Mahavamsa (see chapter 8 & chapter 9) does not mention this kingdom, but it does say that the ruler was in Upatissagama. Clearly, Upatissagama was the capital until Pandukabhaya, and I'm beginning to think that the "kingdom of vijithapura" was a mistake on Codrington's part, since nobody else mentions it. I'd suggest you create the article on Upatissagama or "kingdom of Upatissagama" (though it was not really a kingdom) since that's what most sources say, and describe that it is also known as the "kingdom of Vijithpura". None of your other sources mention that Vijithapura was the capital either, but mentions the city of Vijithapura during Dutugemunu's reign, which is more than 200 years later. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 11:09, 11 November--Blackknight12 (talk) 08:08, 12 November 2009 (UTC) 2009 (UTC)
Hey, sorry I couldn't reply earlier, I was really busy. I see your point and I trust your research so I will update everything but don't you think it would be formally called Upatissa Nuwara instead of Upatissagama? And do you think it would have been a kind of provisional or transitional government the kingdom only had three official kings while the other two were only regents?--Blackknight12 (talk) 06:56, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
No problem :) Yes, Upatissa Nuwara and Upatissagama were the same, so you could use any of them I think. It was the "capital" of the country but the rulers seem to have had control over a very limited area, so they were more like regional rulers. Some of the different colonies that were established with Vijaya's arrival seem to have been independent, particularly the ones far from the capital. But the kings had control over a relatively larger area and were inherited Vijaya's throne, so they are the ones recorded as the "king of Sri Lanka". So it looks like they are not regarded as provisional or transitional administrations. Pandukabaya was the first king to bring a considerably large part of the country under his control, and Dutugemunu was the first to control the entire country. That's why Anuradhapura is called the first "established kingdom", because it had the entire country under its control most of the time, unlike Tambapanni and Upatissa Nuwara. I have some sources too, and I can add them if you like. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 07:34, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Would the different colonies have been Vedda colonies or those who came with Vijaya? And yeah sure you clearly have a better understanding of this and more access to sources so please go ahead and add the information and clear this out.--Blackknight12 (talk) 07:58, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
No, I meant the colonies established by Vijaya's retinue. I'm not sure about the Vedda people. I'll add some info to the article when I have time, but don't wait for me; please go ahead with it. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 08:03, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh ok. Yeah sure ill try and fix everything up and thanks a lot for your help.--Blackknight12 (talk) 08:08, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: List of monarchs of Ruhuna

Hello Blackknight12, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of List of monarchs of Ruhuna - a page you tagged - because: Category doesn't apply, and it seems a reasonable redirect to me. Take to RfD if required. . Please review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging further pages. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. GedUK  08:30, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Copy-paste moves

Please don't move pages by copying the content from one title and pasting it at another. This is a violation of the GFDL. Also, the existing title "Sri Lankans in the United Kingdom" is standard for the entire series of articles, except in those cases where a preponderance of reliable sources use some other name. If you would like to propose a move, see the directions at WP:RM#Requesting potentially controversial moves. Thanks, cab (talk) 15:12, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

WP:CSD#R2 does not apply to redirects from one article title to another article title. It would only apply for redirects from an article title (like Disambiguation) to a non-article title (like Wikipedia:Disambiguation). Instead of repeatedly trying to move the page unilaterally, please use WP:RM#Requesting potentially controversial moves as suggested above. Thanks, cab (talk) 15:16, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, I will keep that in mind for the future.--Blackknight12 (talk) 15:19, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: Hello

Hey, I've been good, just really busy with school. I've wanted to edit, but I don't have too much free time right now. Plus I needed a little break after all the nonsense that went on lol. I see WPLK is in your good hands though :) You've been doing a seriously amazing job with the new articles.

I'm going to try and edit a bit more, but I have finals coming up in a couple of weeks so I don't think I can be too active till after. And thanks for asking and keep up the awesome work. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 16:42, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Recent edits to Sri Lanka related articles

Dear editor,
I have noticed that you are changing Level 2 Headers from [== Level 2 Header ==] to [==Level 2 Header==]. Please note that the space between the titles are the default format of headers (although they do not affect any visual appearance), you may confirm this by clicking the A in the edit this page link. Also, i have noticed that you are adding __TOC__ to short articles. Please note that TOCs are only for large articles. And using them on smaller articles will only degrade appearances (hence the __NOTOC__ was created). Just so you know, I primarily do wikiformatting (appearance-related edits) and facts relating to Energy. Kind regards. Rehman (talk) 10:39, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for that Information Rehman. I have noticed that you also do a little editing on Sri Lanka related topics and you are a part of WikiProject Sri Lanka, if it is not too much trouble can I ask you to place the new articles you have created on the Sri Lankan Wikipedians' notice board. Thanks, take care.--Blackknight12 (talk) 11:00, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome. Its the first time i came across this; will try my best to familiarize myself with it and do the needful. :) Thanks and best regards. Rehman (talk) 11:06, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, and best regards to you too.--Blackknight12 (talk) 11:08, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Merging articles

Hi. When you want to suggest that two articles (such as British Tamil and Sri Lankans in the United Kingdom) be merged, you need to add templates to both and start a discussion on the destination article's talk page, setting out your rationale for the merger. Please see Help:Merging for full instructions and ask me if you need any help. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:08, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey, thanks Cordless Larry.--Blackknight12 (talk) 11:17, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Do you plan to do this? The template on Sri Lankans in the United Kingdom is looking a bit lonely and will need to be removed if you don't follow through with this properly. Cordless Larry (talk) 23:14, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
I do plan to expand this article when I have more information on the topic. What do you mean the template is looking a lonely, and follow what properly?--Blackknight12 (talk) 04:51, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
I was referring to the merge template that you added. If you want to suggest merging the two article, you need to follow the procedure set out at Help:Merging rather than just adding a template to one of the articles. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:59, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
I plan to remove the template on Monday if you do not intend to go ahead with suggesting the merge. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:49, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I totally forgot about this. I expanded the article and added a reason for my merge proposal in Talk:Sri Lankans in the United Kingdom, I hope that will get everything done, if not please tell me how I can get it done. Thanks--Blackknight12 (talk) 03:12, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I had suspected that was the case and wanted to give you the chance to complete the merger proposal. Cordless Larry (talk) 10:55, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you too. What will be happening to the British Tamil article?--Blackknight12 (talk) 11:01, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
That depends on the outcome of the discussion you started. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:31, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello Blackknight12

Images in the Sinhalese people article

Hi, Do you think it is relevant and representative to have the two images of the Sinhala woman and man in the article? Thoes pictures are pieces of art, and do not really represent anything Sinhalese, but work of a foriegn photographer. Her work has no value in documenting anything of anthoropolical value. Why don't we try to find some good pictures? I have browsed the web. There are good pictures, but I don't want to upload anything before copyright issues are clarified. Regards SriSuren (talk) 04:20, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello, the picture of the man is a representative and relevant one to the page because it is an image of a Sinhalese man in the past in his Sinhalese form, even though it is nearly a hundred years old it shows the history of the Sinhalese People. On the other hand you are right with the image of the woman, that is why I have placed it in a gallery with the caption, "A Sinhalese woman dressed up in non Sinhalese attire.", so the reader knows that this image is not an exact representation of a Sinhalese woman. I am actually in the process of finding some good historical pictures, and I have found some very good ones. You might want to check out images of ceylon. Take care--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:05, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Hi, My point was that pictures taken by this particular photographer cannot be used to portray the description of Sinhalese or for that matter anything else, since the actual situation for an anthropological representation is not there, when her work has been to dress up people and take photographs. The man could be anything. There's some photos, where she has dressed up her servants as Tamils. In an encyclopedic entry, things have to be portrayed in the real way, as much as possible.
The site you link to has a lot of photos. I have just browsed it. Let's see what we can find there. But you have to bear in mind that in the colonial time they tried to give their version of our country and sometimes directly portrayed our people and culture in a very distorted way. A good example is the Veddahs, whom they made to look as savages and wild men, which was completely wrong. Upto today many think that the veddahs are wild savages because of this false presentation by the colonial masters. There is a good article written Prof. Gananath Obeyesekere, here, (Colonial Histories and Veddah primitivsm).
Examples of suitable and not so suitable:
This is not Sinhalese, while this is.
This supposed to be a Sinhalese wedding :) - The bride is dressed for a Christian wedding, not very representative.
Sinhalese woman 100 years old. Good picture. Don't think anybody got to dress her up :).
A good picture for Sinhalese man from the site you mentioned.
Maybe we can come up with our suggestions and discuss what is suitable and write to the owner of the site and inquire about using the pictures?
By the way, the whole article on the Sinhalese people must be re-written properly. The section on genetic studies specially is a mess - it seems like or rather it is quite evident that the Tamils are running the show here with a lot of propaganda and direct lies and distortions, and Sinhalese don't care what is written here. :) SriSuren (talk) 11:20, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
You are very right, that a lot of these images may not be suitable or are misleading, and the image of the woman is not a very good one for this encyclopaedic article therefore I shall remove it. The man on the other hand I think is safe to say is a credible image for he is only wearing a sarong and the traditional comb that the Sinhalese wear so there would not be any confusion about whether he is dress up or not, and the fact that it also comes from an encyclopaedic website with the research from the Library of Congress.
About how the colonists tried to give their version of our country, I did not look at those images in that way and I thank you for telling me. I'd be happy to come up with our suggestions and discuss what is suitable and write to the owner of the site.
I have noticed this article is messed up and I have tried many times to fix it but it keeps on being changed. I don't think that it is that the Sinhalese don't care what is written but that they are just fed up. Watch out for Wikinpg (talk · contribs) he is the one who wrote the Genetic Studies and he seems to be very bias and or stubborn, plus the topic of Genetic Studies of the Sinhalese People have been a very heated topic in the talk section and I do not think it has come to a proper conclusion so I wonder if you would like to discuss the purpose of that section. Also if you don't mind and you have the time I propose we spend the next couple of days totally fixing this article once and for all. Thanks very much for your concern about this article. By the way do you remember BlueLankan (talk · contribs)? Well I suspect he has come back as Jai Kumara Yesappa (talk · contribs), just keep a watch out for him. Regards :)--Blackknight12 (talk) 13:35, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
We'll see what we can do about the images. There should be more images of ancient buildings like the stupas etc. I'll keep an eye on them, and the other one, Taprobanus, but it is difficult to do much, since these people are just out to spread their lies and propaganda, they just copy and paste from all the places. It was sad about BlueLankan, though. He was most irritating, but he was like very childish too. Most of the time, I just laughed at his edits. :) Wikinpg is in for a mild shock soon - let him enjoy while he can :). Wikipedia should certainly have more restrictions as to how articles get edited, if they are going to be taken seriously. Lately I noticed that Google has started to rank wikipedia results lower. SriSuren (talk) 14:33, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
It is dissapointing to read the following posts. I have great respect for you Blacknight12 as you have contributed so much to the Sinhalese people page.

The section on genetic studies specially is a mess - it seems like or rather it is quite evident that the Tamils are running the show here with a lot of propaganda and direct lies and distortions, and Sinhalese don't care what is written here.

I wrote almost all the Genetic studies section and I am sinhalese! It's a shame that there are so many sinhalese people out who can't accept what the evidence shows and instead jump to the conclusion of a "tamil conspiracy" without actually looking at the studies. There is no propaganda, lies, distortions, original research etc. Everything is referenced and from reliable peer reviewed journals. All you have to do is look at the studies to verify the information.

How am I biased? All the information for the genetic studies section are from unbiased peer reviewed journals. If there are studies showing something contrary to what I've posted, then post it as well. I am more than happy for other people to contribute to the article, as long as they are posting from reliable sources and not making original research. All I care about is making sure people get the truth of what science has to say about sinhalese genetics, no matter how unpopular it is. The vandalism on the genetic studies section didn't stop because the "Sinhalese are fed up of my edits." but because I reported the vandals to wikipedia and it ended up that all the accounts were sockpuppets and they all got banned. Ever since then, there hasn't been much vandalism to the section and I hope it stays that way. I even got outside opinions for this section and there weren't any complaints. The people who vandalized the section didn't do it on a rational, scientific basis, but because they didn't want to accept that the Sinhalese are closely related to south indian tamils and west bengalis. You can't deny the overwhelming evidence that the sinhalese are closely related to tamils bengalis. Deleting this information is censorship of the truth and against wikipedia policy.

Wikinpg is in for a mild shock soon - let him enjoy while he can :).

Please do not make threats of vandalism. Lets work together on improving this section.

Use of File:President William Gopallawa.jpg

I'd be grateful if you could educate me on the procedure of protecting copyrights of a media file we add. I find it hard to understand. Thanks..Gihaned (talk) 06:23, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Yeah sure, just tell me specifically what you need help with and I will help you.--Blackknight12 (talk) 06:36, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't understand the actual procedure of adding a photo, making sure its copyrights are protected. So I usually choose 'public domain', when adding a photo. I would like to know what and how we need to present information in order to obtain copyright license, when ading a picture as 'my own work'. Thanks.. Gihaned (talk) 02:36, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Well I assume you know how to add a photo because it seems you were the one who added this picture, just in case you don't what you do is on the wikipedia bar on the left of the screen is a section named toolbox and in it is a link named Upload file, click that then it will ask you what kind of image you want to add. If it is a picture that you have taken or one you have created then you can click "Entirely my own work", the first selection, and give it any copywrite license you want. When it asks you for information just fill the summary, which looks like this:

File information
Description

William Gopallawa, president of Sri Lanka.

Source

I (Blackknight12 (talk)) created this work entirely by myself.

Date

19??

Author

Blackknight12 (talk)

Permission
(Reusing this file)

See below.

If the picture is not yours then it is a Non-free image so you choose one of the other options relative to where you got it from and then select the proper license. For example the President William Gopallawa.jpg Non-free image but I could post it under the terms of Non-free historic image.

I hope that was what you were asking for and I hope you understood all that. Happy editing--Blackknight12 (talk) 12:30, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Australia Sri Lanka Locator.PNG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip [i.e. a Word document or PDF file] that has no encyclopedic use.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. AfD nomination of Estonia – Sri Lanka relations and others

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated articles are Estonia – Sri Lanka relations, Romania – Sri Lanka relations. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to the relevant discussion pages: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Estonia – Sri Lanka relations for Estonia – Sri Lanka relations, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Romania – Sri Lanka relations for Romania – Sri Lanka relations. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:06, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on 2011 Cricket World Cup squads, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

In addition to this image, which you placed under CC-By-SA license for no evident reason, I am highly concerned with the non-free use rationales you have applied to such images as File:Air Chief Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody.gif, which is not a "unique historic image" but a portrait of a living person. This is unacceptable under NFC, #12. That rationale applies only when the image itself is historically significant and is the subject of sourced commentary within the article. Its use at Jayalath Weerakkody clearly does not conform. I will invite further review. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:52, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
The reason I placed the licence of which it currently has is that this image is a unique historic image in terms that this image is a very rare image of a person who has historically held a high post in the Sri Lankan Air Force. And how about where it says "However, for some retired or disbanded groups, or retired individuals whose notability rests in large part on their earlier visual appearance, a new picture may not serve the same purpose as an image taken during their career, in which case the use would be acceptable." wouldn't that cover the licence? Also for these images: File:Flag of the Central Province.PNG, File:Flag of the North Central Province.PNG, File:Flag of the North Western Province.PNG, File:Flag of the Sabaragamuwa Province.PNG, File:Flag of the Southern Province.PNG and File:Flag of the Uva Province.PNG I got permission from the website to upload them to wikipedia but I am having trouble forwarding the email and fixing the licence could you help me with that? And is it possible I could add a fair use rationale to the images that are up for deletion? Thanks--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:32, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
I will be happy to help you with the permission process once I get back to my home computer, tomorrow. I'm traveling, and my connection is very spotty.
The rules on images of living people are a bit confusing, but it isn't a unique historic image unless the image is itself historic. The fact that the individuals are or were notable doesn't make the image itself notable, and for politicians and public figures, their notability does not rest in their visual appearance as it does for some actors, models or musicians. Any picture of such individuals could convey their appearance, so we do not have sufficient reason to justify an image that is not free. If some of the images that are up for deletion can be covered by valid fair use, we can certainly add that, but, again, I would not be in position to assist until tomorrow. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:22, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, I just think that it would be a such a shame for Wikipedia to lose so many valuable images, that I have worked hard to find and upload, due to a misunderstanding in licence when it can be fixed. Also I am sorry if I don't reply more quickly because I too don't have a proper internet connection over the next few days.--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:51, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Blackknight12 - you would do well to consider in depth the meaning of "self-made" before you upload more images, once this block has expired. I have just deleted a few of such images, and nominated some on commons for the same. I found the original source of the image on the net. Apart from the image you mention above, 7 have just been deleted as obvious copyright violations, and two more are soon to do. - Peripitus (Talk) 00:45, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:General Sarath Fonseka and Major General Jagath Jayasuriya in Wanni Front.jpg

File source problem with File:Sri Lankan War Flag.gif

Thanks for uploading File:Sri Lankan War Flag.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:45, 28 December 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 15:45, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
