Infoboxes

I'm not sure why you're removing United National Front for Good Governance from infoboxes. In Sri Lanka, like most countries with PR, politics is dominated by electoral alliances and most elected representatives are elected on an electoral alliance ticket. So most politicians are affiliated with both a political party and a political alliance.--Obi2canibe (talk) 17:08, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

@Obi2canibe: I didn't think this would be controversial. I'm removing party political alliances from politician pages because the UNFGG and the UPFA (for example) are alliances between political parties, not those individuals and the parties, (I'd imagine the case would be different for an Independent). Political party alliances have more to do with the larger establishment than the individuals. Politicians are only affiliated to political alliances through their party, so being affiliated to a certain party at a certain time should suffice in allowing people to know that that politician was with which alliance at what time.--Blackknight12 (talk) 17:32, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you've said is correct. Some alliances, e.g. UPFA, are administered like parties and thus have officers, branches and individual memberships. The current argument about whether MR can be opposition leader is hinged on whether he is still a member of the UPFA and SLFP (DN, DM). So it's possible to be a member of more than one political party/alliance. And being a member of a party doesn't always mean that the individual is a member of the alliance which the party belongs to. This is particularly true when defections occur. For example, the UNP MPs who defected to the UPFA recently are still members of the UNP. Similarly the SLFP MPs who defected to the UPFA are still members of the SLFP.--Obi2canibe (talk) 14:46, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
