Re.Can you help?[edit]

Hi. Thanks for contacting me. If you can tell me exactly what you need, I'll try and help as much as I can. Regards Tbo 157talk 16:21, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have just looked at the user talk template at Template:UKTrams. This template already has space for asessment rating and importance rating. For example typing {{UKTrams|class=b|importance=mid}} will give you:
WikiProject iconUK Trams NA‑class (inactive)
WikiProject iconThis article is within the scope of WikiProject UK Trams, a project which is currently considered to be inactive.
NAThis article has been rated as NA-class on Wikipedia's content assessment scale.
I will try and find a better image for the template and I will start work on the portal as soon as I can. Thanks Tbo 157talk 16:42, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will see what I can do. The portal will take some time but I will try to complete is as soon as I can. Thanks Tbo 157talk 16:56, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have created a basic outline of the portal at Portal:UK Trams. If you have any preference of colour with the boxes, background and border this can easily be changed. I have tried to stick to colours similar to the userbox but it can be changed if necessary. I am still working on the content. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 17:17, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Theres still a few bits and pieces I need to get done. Ill let you fill in the contents, once im done with it. Also, if you can tell me which sections you don't need I can delete them for you. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 17:26, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I can tell you that most portals do have the Wikimedia section. Tbo 157talk 17:48, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the selected biography section and the portal is ready for filling in now, if you're happy with it. To fill in the contents, you should click the red links under each box. A sub page will then open and you can fill it in just like a normal article. The category:portals under construction should be left there until teh portal contents have all been filled in. Once you have completed the portal contents I will try to help in getting it finished and listing it as a new portal. Please feel free to contact me if you have any problems, need help with anything or want to make any adjustments. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 18:02, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The news section is usually used for news related to the project. You can edit the section by clicking the red link and typing in content in the subpage which appears. Thanks Tbo 157talk 18:19, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • You can put related portals on however you like. There is no real set standard.
  • The wikimedia section is for links to areas on the same topic in other wikimedia projects. A list of which can be found [1].
  • For the selected article, I normally copy and paste the first paragraph in.
  • For the selected image, I put the image in and provide an explanation. You should set the picture to about 200px. You can do that by typing File:Name of image.
  • In the categories, you would insert links to categories related to the project.
  • In topics, you can insert links to articles most closely associated with the project. I wont be online until tomorrow now so if you leave any messages on my talk page I will reply tomorrow. Thanks Tbo 157talk 18:34, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I managed to get back earlier than expected so I can help out with anything. Tbo 157talk 20:09, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Its looking good. I've made some adjustments there for you. Tbo 157talk 20:28, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can insert images by placing File:Name of image at the top of the article.Tbo 157talk 20:36, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It looks really good. Tbo 157talk 20:41, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is always possible to change the images. Im not sure which banners you're talking about. Tbo 157talk 20:53, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh right. Ye, sure I'll do that for you. Tbo 157talk 20:58, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have created the banner. Typing {{Wikipedia:WikiProject UK Trams/selected article template|22 August and 22 September}} will produce:

Tbo 157talk 21:06, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have made some finishing touches and added links to the portal in various places and listed it at Wikipedia:Portal/Directory, Wikipedia:Community Portal, Portal:List of portals and at Portal:Transport. I have also placed the banner I created in the list of templates for WP:UKT. Can I also ask if you would like WP:UK Trams to be a descendant project of Wikipedia:WikiProject Transport as it is in the right scope. Parent projects are often a benefit to project as they can offer assistance with the descendant project. Parent projects do not dictate descendant projects in any way, as this is egainst wikipedia policy, but work with them as a community. If you would like help on anything else related to the project please feel free to contact me.Tbo 157talk 21:58, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have brushed up the portal. Regarding the navigation system, do you mean a navigation system for the portal or the whole wikiproject. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 13:03, 23 August 2007 (UTC) Ok, but you don't need 5 pages. It takes up valuable hardware. Tbo 157talk 18:09, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, from what I understand you want 5 different facts and you want a weekly rotation. As far as im aware, you can only do this manually. Tbo 157talk 18:12, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I can understand but you don't need 5 pages to do that. You just need to save them onto your computer or a single page on Wikipedia and copy that into the portal each week. Tbo 157talk 18:24, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
However way you do it, you only need 1 page to display something on the portal. Tbo 157talk 18:35, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Im sorry but I really can't understand what you want to do. Why do you need 3 pages. Tbo 157talk 18:47, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can get 3 facts on one page in the same week, just like you can write 3 facts on a piece of paper in the same week. Tbo 157talk 18:51, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by 3 different facts all available at the same time, within one week. Don;t you mean 3 facts on one page in one week and 3 different facts on a page the next week and so forth. If so, this only requires one page. Tbo 157talk 19:18, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I get it now. But why not just put them on one page. Tbo 157talk 22:02, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ive made the navigation system and the portal looks pretty much complete now. Also some users have expressed concern that there is a Did you know? section and a fascinating facts section on the portal. It is advisable that they are merged as they are essentially the same thing. Is there anything else I can do for you? Tbo 157talk 22:47, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Your project doesn't have an asessment page. There is a general Wikipedia one. The portal also looks fine now. Where exactly does it need cleaning up. Im looking into everything else. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 17:04, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added Wikiproject Transport as a parent project of Wikiproject UK Trams and I could add Wikiproject Engineering as a related project if you wish. Tbo 157talk 17:50, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can I ask if youve uploaded the logo for the Project yet. Thanks Tbo 157talk 20:27, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem Tbo 157talk 21:02, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I'll deal with everything as soon as I get my archives sorted out. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 17:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have placed the new image on the {{UKTrams}} banner. Tbo 157talk 17:54, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is relatively easy to change images. You simply swap the image name for the current one. However do make sure that you dont change the size setting or where the image is on the template unless it is your intention to. Also if there is more than one image, ensure that you are changing the right one. Yes, you can change the image and wording for different types of tram or however you categorise it but this would require a number of templates. I could do this for you if you can upload the relevant images. When uploading images, it is a good idea to ensure that you are not violating copyright laws. Tbo 157talk 18:04, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I dont think so but if you do violate copyright laws, you will normally be notified. Have a read of Wikipedia:Copyright for more information. Tbo 157talk 18:10, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will do those as soon as I can and I will sign up to the project. Thanks Tbo 157talk 19:24, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have created the following templates, Template:UKTrams modern and Template:UKTrams Blackpool. Thanks Tbo 157talk 20:32, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Yes, we could have our own version of an assessment page. I'd be happy to help if you could start creating one. Tbo 157talk 17:31, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have created Template:UKTrams preserved. I can't find the images for proposed and historical. Thanks Tbo 157talk 17:53, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have now created all the banners and have checked any links on them. Tbo 157talk 19:00, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at Template:Class parameter. It should explain how to add parameters. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 17:37, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I will work on the assessment pages soon. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 13:45, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is certainly starting to come together. However more participants would be useful. Tbo 157talk 19:11, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have completed the categories for the assessment section. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 21:22, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The catgories should be workingif you add the relevant pages to the relevant categories. Thanks Tbo 157talk 17:06, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there is a bot which does categories. All categories are done manually as far as Im aware. In the case of ratings, I think there are parameters in the template which add the relevant categoris in automatically. Thanks 17:11, 1 September 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tbo 157 (talkcontribs)
Sorry, I don't think I explained it very well before. What I meant is that for the stub, A-class etc , there is a parameter in the template which automatically adds the article to the relevant category when the class is updated. The WP 1.0 bot doesn't update categories. Tbo 157talk 17:29, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Using the bot contains instructions for using the bot and is quite useful. Tbo 157talk 17:39, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I should also mention that you need to add the categories first as this is how the bot detects articles, portals etc. Tbo 157talk 17:46, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the portal class category to Portal talk:UK Trams so the bot should update this soon. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 17:54, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. generally you only put list etc, if the article doesn't need to be rated. The bot doesn't update statuses for the number of lists etc but the lists, portals etc should go in the right category. Tbo 157talk 19:43, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bluegoblin. The WP 1.0 bot should update everything in time. Bots can take time. Thanks. Tbo 157talk 19:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thats right, the bot don't update categories but it uses categories to locate articles and update the table. Tbo 157talk 19:36, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Categories are updated manually as far as im aware. Tbo 157talk 19:43, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When categories are manually added to pages, the WP 1.0 bot detects it and updates the table accordingly. Tbo 157talk 19:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you tell me which pages you are referring to, Ill have a look at them for you. Thanks Tbo 157talk 20:01, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lists aren't shown on the table and categories need to be added manually. So no bots are involved in this process. 20:10, 4 September 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tbo 157 (talkcontribs)

Helpme[edit]

{{help-me}}

This problem was related to the one above, becuase it was caused by the relative references. The edit link wasn't going to the right page, but I've fixed it now.--Werdan7T @ 19:36, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stub type syntax[edit]

Please read Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types and Wikipedia:Stub. A stub template does not feature the related wiki project in its statement. The correct statement for {{Template:UK-tram-stub‎}} is This UK Tram-related article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it. Regards, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 10:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Infobox tram, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 10:37, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox UK Tram[edit]

Hello, I noticed that this was up for deletion. I have a quick question, what is this infobox primarily going to be used for? Is it used in article pages like the Infobox countries in United_Kingdom or is it just a infobox(navigation box on side) for the main project page like in the Trains Wikiproject? --Hdt83 Chat 22:32, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Derbyshire[edit]

Well thats two. Seems to the next person will be the first to join this new group as we are now plural ... Victuallers 12:24, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help![edit]

I'm working on a portal for WikiProject Derbyshire (currently at User:Bluegoblin7/WP:Derbyshire), and wanted the portal to have the same look and feel of Portal:UK Trams, but with the Derbyshire colours, as in the userbox, Wikipedia:WikiProject Derbyshire/Userbox. Can anyone help me sort this out? The portal is at Portal:Derbyshire. Thanks! Bluegoblin7 18:45, 9 September 2007 (UTC) Also, I am still padding it out, but please just add like test or something to the current redlinks![reply]

Further to the above, something strange has happened to the navbox on the main page and portal. Can you also help me in making the main page look great? i'm a bit stuck as to what to do next... Bluegoblin7 19:06, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This will get a bit complicated but I think we will solve this step by step. I have created Portal:catholicism First, look at Portal:UK Trams, press edit and at the end of the page you will see the "Pages transcluded onto the current version of this page". You have to create similar templates for your portal.--Thw1309 19:15, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are these colours ok? Please look here and tell me which colours you want. --Thw1309 19:33, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the intro. This is just an excample, taken from the article. Please feel free to change it as you like, but you should remember, that you are creating Portal:Derbyshire, not Portal:Wikiproject Derbyshire.--Thw1309 20:07, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also added the section Associated Wikimedia. All portals are expected to have it.--Thw1309 20:33, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bluegoblin7. I noticed that you started the article, User:Bluegoblin7/List of London Buses By Start Point in your user area and added it to the to do list on WP:LT. I did originally mention it on the talk page but I'll mention it here since it is in your user page and you started the page. I am concerned that the page may be unnecessary in the mainspace. We already have a list of bus routes by route number and that already contains the information you want in the page you created. Any such list may be deleted as a duplicate if you move it to the mainspace. If you don't plan to move the page to the mainspace then my apologies. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) (review) 17:16, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I just realised that the above message may have sounded a bit pointed. If it did, then my apologies. I posted the message with the intention of advising, not threatening or warning. Hope all is well. Thanks. :) Tbo 157(talk) (review) 00:09, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessments[edit]

Minor edit? Well done! Victuallers 22:17, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessments[edit]

All the assessments. Pleased to see the Portal is going live. I blagged the news section as I suspect we don't have anyone who wants to sort thro the news to find real derbyshire news. Most portals are read once I suspect. By people who say Yes I'll join and those who say "No I 'm really looking for something else". Derbyshire is looking good. Well done.
