Hey, if you want to help us out, can you ID the red-linked language names in the Cambodian census here? I've done what I could (e.g. Por = Pear), but some of the others seem pretty obscure. We'll want to know what they are, though, for the next census. If you can ID any, just click on the red link and create a redirect to the appropriate WP article. Then, when someone copies the info from the next census, all they'll have to do is put brackets around the names, and the reader will be taken to the correct articles. — kwami (talk) 17:25, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about citing the location of Theen. I just wanted your confirmation that's what the ref said. The "ref" field in the info box is specifically for the population (as is the date field), because that's the most critical element. (It's what people most often falsify.) If you do want to repeat a reference, you can use the 'ref name=x' coding I added to the end of the main text. (Again, not necessary here.) — kwami (talk) 16:49, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vitality[edit]

Hi. Ethnologue is not a RS for language vitality. (E.g. at Pyen language.) If Ethn. contradicts a source on the language, IMO we should ignore Ethn. altogether.

The recent Rutger's class project on endangered languages linked to a site evaluating the Ethn. classification that estimates a confidence value. E.g., the language is "vital", with a 20% confidence that "vital" is the correct category. Ethn. doesn't do that: they just say "vital" as if they knew, and they often don't have the data to know. — kwami (talk) 02:16, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Kwami, a reliable source on Pyen told me the vitality is high, and said the (Shintani 2009) citation is wrong. I wanted to cite the Ethnolouge's vitality for Pyen as a second opinion to off set Shintani 2009.Bluethailand (talk) 05:12, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is that not something you can cite directly? Or could you maybe remove the comment from Shintani, maybe with a comment in the html coding that it's incorrect? We have a proposal now to add the Ethnologue endangerment scale to the infobox, but many of their assessments are clearly unreliable, and I wouldn't wan to encourage their use. — kwami (talk) 20:56, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bluethailand. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
