A tag has been placed on Hanggliding.org requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Why is my article targeted for deletion?[edit]

{{helpme}} Hello, I just started an article about a web site named hanggliding.org. I got a notice that it was targeted for deletion. I checked the conditions for deletion and it says that it must be a significant web site to be included in Wikipedia. I believe hanggliding.org meets that criteria because it is the most popular hang gliding web site in the world. My article is still very primitive, and I would like to begin working on it, but not if it won't be accepted. How can I get a ruling on this?

Thanks. --Bob Kuczewski (talk) 09:46, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bob Kuczewski- I'm the person who added the speedy deletion tag to the article. I have now removed it per your argument that being the world's most popular site in its field would make it significant. But I still think the article is likely to be deleted via the stricter proposed deletion process, because I can find no substantial coverage in reliable, third-party sources that talk about the site. This means it does not meet our notability criterion for inclusion. Unfortunately Wikipedia cannot have articles about everything that exists, so we use the notability rule to identify those that have already been covered substantially elsewhere. This also helps to ensure that all claims in articles are verifiable. Does this answer your question? I'm just pasting some links here as well to help you find your way around. == Bob, one may work for years on an article in Wikipedia and then be witness to some editor fully wiping the article off the face of Wikipedia. "Consensus" of a grouping set of editors can so move to get such wipeouts accomplished. Disconcerting. There is no guarantee that articles will remain. On the "noteworthy" aspect of a web site: Are there third-party publications that examine the article's subject web site; references for such may be hard to get outside of forums. Has there been articles in sport magazines about that web site? Have newspapers examined any noteworthy aspects of the web site. Etc. If not, a forum site just may not meet the noteworthy sieve for WP. The site may be important to a sector of hang glider pilots, but the site as such may not meet the noteworthy thresholds. And if your comments are original research, then that would put your comments at risk. Also, Neutral Point of View (NPV) will be something editors will watch for; a spectrum of views identified and referenced may still meet the NPV screen. 2602:304:47E7:D030:2467:A21A:69BD:7874 (talk) 23:19, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
