Welcome![edit]

Hello, BookPOD, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Sobraon (ship), may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may not be retained.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! clpo13(talk) 23:38, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Sobraon (ship)[edit]

The article Sobraon (ship) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

May be a duplicate of HMAS Tingira.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. clpo13(talk) 23:38, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is a pity that you continue to edit the Sobraon article apparently without understanding that it is likely to be deleted. Not only is a separate article unnecessary, but also a merger is not possible due to the lack of reliable sources (in the Wikipedia context). Your almost total reliance reliance on a self-published book, apparently by yourself, makes it impossible to transfer material directly. That is not to say that there is anything wrong with the book itself, only that it does not meet WP's reference criteria. You have usefully demonstrated that the HMAS Tingira article needs improvement and hopefully you will bring to that your undoubted knowledge of the sources used in your own research, where they are appropriate, and engage in collaborative effort through its talk page. Davidships (talk) 10:45, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Davidships - It certainly wasn't made clear that it was going to be deleted if I did not make the suggested changes. I am posting the material on behalf of the author and as this has been a learning process, I have tried my best to meet the criteria. Perhaps if instead I was advised that under no circumstances was the article to stay because of the link with the Tingira then I would not have wasted my time or yours. I have tried in the past to make changes to the Tingira page but to no avail - each change was reverted the next day. Any suggestions from your part would be greatly appreciated - certainly some facts on the Tingira page are inaccurate which the author would like to contribute.

May I enquire, if you are "... posting the material on behalf of the author...", what is your relationship to the author? Manxruler (talk) 12:06, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying BookPOD. I too am sorry that you were so industrious in developing your article, only to see it disappear; but when you first joined you received the Welcome! message above which explains about the basic WP editing policies, "reliable sources" etc. Bearing in mind that HMG's book cannot at present be used directly as the source for the improvements you intended, there is nothing at all to prevent you editing HMAS Tingira citing the same relevant sources that are given in the book (provided that you are able to verify them and that, of course, they meet WP guidelines). By way of example, I have now dealt with the question of the dates of launching and maiden voyage. Don't lose heart! Davidships (talk) 17:15, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Manxruler - I designed the author's (Geoff Stephenson's) book. He is vision impaired and therefore relies on me to make these changes for him.

Davidships - Thanks so much for your reply. I'll let the author know.
