Image of the Arecibo reply

Hello. I have temporalily worked on the same article in the German Wikipedia, which is called Arecibo-Botschaft. For a better credibility of this specific section I am searching for a way to implant an image of the Arecibo reply, just as it is in the English Wikipedia.

Due to the fact that you are holding the copyright to this image, I would like to ask you, if you could allow to implant this same image into the German article. I personally haven't implanted images before, but I could try to do it. Thanks for your time in advance.

Breno thank you for noticing this, however the owner of this image has given me permission to use this image in the article The Full Moon Show, as he wishes to expand the podcasts listeners base and have a resource for listeners and non listeners alike. I added the 100 years template because the use on wikipedia template gave a message of instant deletion, if you would not mind helping me allow this image for use it would be much appreciated, I am quite unsure about some things as this is the first image I have uploaded onto Wikipedia. I went through the FMS Terms of Use on their site. It doesn't mention that media is released under a particular licence, only that it is copyright. For now, I have corrected the image to be labeled as a copyright logo, and wrote a brief fair use rationale how it is being used here.

If you could point me where the show says they licence their work please let me know. If he told you personally please explain the licence they want to use, and I'll get in touch with them about a process where they email Wikipedia granting us permission. The main thing they need to understand, however, is that not only Wikipedia needs permission, but all its downstream projects (commercial or otherwise) will be able to use the image.

CBC Radio 3

Please note that you cannot empty a category yourself and then request speedy deletion on the grounds that it's an empty category, unless you have an actual WP:CFD consensus to delete the category. Category:CBC Radio 3 programs was created for a reason — CBC Radio consists of three different networks, and it's not helpful to simply have them all of the programs lumped into a single CBC-wide category rather than separate cats for each individual network. If you don't think it's useful, then you're free to try it at CFD, but the way you went about deleting it in this case is inappropriate.

I'm also unclear on why you removed Category:CBC Radio 3 from the Internet radio and podcast categories. All three are separate components of the station's operations — the Internet radio stream is not a simulcast of the satellite radio station, but an independently-programmed stream with a separate programming schedule. Hi Bearcat, I removed the category Category:CBC Radio 3 programs as there was only four articles contained in this category. My understanding was that categories with fewer than 30 or so articles could me merged if they were so closely related, and I guess I was a little too hasty on the delete. I noticed you applied the correct process of CSD at CBC Radio 3 programs which I do appreciate.

I removed Category:CBC Radio 3 from Category:Audio podcasts as we at WP:PODCAST use it to list shows that are distributed by podcasting, not for radio stations that have shows, some of which are distributed via podcasting. Check out the Audio podcasts cat to see where I'm coming from. I also removed Category:Internet radio in a similar thought, but mainly because CBC Radio 3 is already in nine cats already, and seems a little over-categorised for such a small cat. --Breno ^talk 07:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: Cube News 1 Images

Part of this is due to my being new here, and not understanding things. I certainly do not wish to get you into copyright problems.

The pictures, while copyrighted, are used with permission from Kim Waldauer, the holder. When I told her I wanted to do this article and needed better pictures to process, she sent me the much larger originals, and a permission for this specific usage E-Mail. How can I make Wikipedia comfortable about this? Can I ask her to send you a letter of permission? dmelliott 21:59, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi dmelliott. Being a free project under the GNU FDL we need to take copyright and licensing issues seriously, so thanks for understanding the reason for tagging the images.

If you do have a permission email forward it to permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org where OTRS will review and update the images. However, check to make sure the email has all the right info on it check out requesting copyright permission, particularly the declaration of consent section (probably the most important part is that Kim not only gives permission for Wikipedia to use the images, but also all downstream projects, including projects that may be for commercial use). While I do have permission, it does not begin to comply with the Wikipedia requirements (looks more like the bad example example). I have sent off a request to the holder, but she is not too technical or legal. If I could have an extra week on this, it would be a big help.

Under CSD policy images may be removed one week after appropriate tagging. This means if there is no source (either website or OTRS ticket) to prove these images are truly licenced under CC by-sa-3.0 they may be deleted after 18 January. Note this does not mean the Cube News article is up for deletion, only the images with no source info on the article. Thanks. You're a pleasure to work with. However, the image process instructions are not. Now that I have been through it, I see that it is really very very simple. The instructions are in serious need of revision, as you can tell from all the people writing in.

I have noticed one thing about many of Wikipedia's instruction pages, that is very bad form, and would get you in trouble if a commercial instruction writer. They start out with all the if's, and's, and but's, contingencies, reasons, and sometimes a weather report. Instructions are supposed to start out with a step by step process of what to do if everything goes right, with references, e.g. links to below, for expanded details. With the instructions mainly dealing with how things can go wrong, and spread over several locations, your, and the user's, job is greatly enlarged.

It looks like there was an original instruction, a problem was discovered, and its description was added to the beginning of the article because it was of great concern for the editor. This, of course, made the directions for how to do it right harder to find, and resulted in more errors, resulting in another paragraph of how not to do it being placed before the statements about how to do it, etc., etc., etc. dmelliott 03:51, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:User WikiProject Gridiron Aus

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article E8400, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. G'day

G'day esteemed person who has expressed interest in Sydney based meetups at this page (I hope that's the correct wording for the formal greeting!!). You may have heard that Australia is to have its very own 'chapter' of the Wikimedia Foundation - and further, there's a meeting coming up to discuss / enact the chapter's incorporation (details here). I'm afraid that I don't know too much about the details of what this entails, other than having a private hope that we might get a secret handshake, and maybe cheap coffee at wikimania (this is a poor attempt at humour - I'm sure that the Chapter's do great work, and it's a good thing that Australia is to have one).

I proposed that the article be deleted last June. Primary concern was that it lacked sufficient notability to have its own encyclopedia article. Check out WP:ORG. Looks to me like "ScienceApologist" exercised obvious bad faith in taking advantage of your (Breno's) wikibreak to hustle the deletion of a competent and legitimate article. I refuted the claims of all comers on the subject [[1]], I established their guideline-violating POV as well as the subject's notability and legitimacy, and it appears to me the deleting editor didn't even confirm the criteria for himself before wiping the thing, for which I posted a complaint on his editor review. Fortunately, while my wiki savvy is limited, I had the presence of mind to download the page first. Let me know when you're back, and we can check into a restore of this ambush hit, assuming the editor hasn't taken the appropriate steps himself. Chris Rodgers (talk) 05:37, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Chris, if you have a copy you can put it in your userspace for now. I can't remember how adequately sourced this article was, but the hardest challenge is proving notability for something that occured in 2001, aka before mass-media hit the Internet and made it easier to source. The deletion process seems maybe a little too hasty - 5 comments doesn't seem like much - but maybe things have changed since I used to work on Wiki.
