Odd backlog additions...

Hi Brian, just looking at and hoping to help out with the PR backlog, but noticed a couple of odd things. Firstly I see the PRbot closing stuff without reviews, which I've undone when I see it, but secondly and more bizarrely, I've found a couple of PRs from way back that are listed, e.g. Wikipedia:Peer review/Dylan and Cole Sprouse/archive1 which was listed on 13 May 2006 (apparently!) and Wikipedia:Peer review/Lewisville, Texas/archive1 which was closed in November last year... Do you know what's happening here?! I just don't want to spend time on dead PRs when plenty of live ones need attention! Cheers, The Rambling Man (talk) 18:13, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

My mistake in both cases - I had entered the wrong archive numbers, so the links went to earlier reviews . I have corrected the Lewisville link. The Dylan & Cole Sprouse article has just been reviewed, so I have removed that from the backlog. My apologies for the confusion. And many thanks to you for taking up the backlog challenge again. I will shortly open a workpage for the collection of Rite sources, links, images etc. As to Carmen, I think some sort of FAC record was established when it went through in a total of just 68 hours and 14 minutes between nomination and promotion.   • Well, if England hadn't just beaten Sri Lanka I might have grumped about this, but as it is, well, I'll take a look (though maybe not immediately).     • I'm afraid the book was not much use, and so I've decided to stick it up at FAC a little early as it seems fairly quiet there at the moment. Tichborne images

Thanks for a fascinating article! I found the photographer for File:RogerTichborne.jpg and assuming he was 20 years old in 1854 and lived to be 100 (died 1934), he has still been dead over 70 years, so the image should be free. Since the website giving the photographer here says that images of those involved in the case were published and sold widely and this seems to be one of the very few photos of Roger Tichborne, I think it is safe to assume it was published before 1923 too.

As for File:Thomas Castro's butcher shop sketch.jpg it appears to me to be either an engraving or a woodcut and so is a work of art and was certainly published. it even has a signature of some sort in the lower left corner, perhaps "W H J Boot"? More information on the Tichborne memento industry is given at this website, including plaster figurines!

Thanks again. This is very interesting, but slightly troubling (there was something similar in the article before I expanded). The problem is that (as is clear from the caption to the tryptich) these blended photographs were prepared with an agenda in mind; the issue is far from being as clear-cut as the caption makes out. Also, the set-up is not entirely clear; the left side is Roger and the right side is the Claimant. Presumably the centre is a blend of the two? Some textual commentary might be helpful. William Jennings Bryan presidential campaign, 1896

Is there some chance you could do the GA review on this, but to FA standards with your usual keen eye? As feel I should patronise TTT's Four Award setup, it would save some bother of running it through GA and PR successively. As we've all heard the story of the '96 campaign enough, I intend to lay McKinley aside for a time (not permanently) and deal with other matters.   • I've not done a GA review for years, and don't know what the expected standard is (fairly low, considering some of the rubbish that arrives at PR proudly bearing its rosette). But I appreciate that it's the review not the trinket you are after, so I'll do it like a PR with FAC in mind. You may have to remind me of some of the GA mechanics. I think your online ref for the end of the title may be challenged as to its being a reliable source. I offer you this from The Times to keep up your sleeve: "Sir Anthony Doughty–Tichborne, the fourteenth baronet and last died on Thursday. He was the only son of the thirteenth baronet whom he succeeded in 1930 and there is no heir to the title": Ref: "Sir A. Doughty-Tichborne", The Times, 20 July 1968, p. 10. Ferrier disco

I changed bits and links on the discography, for her day! I didn't want to go further but have some more questions.

  • Bach cantatas: the details of her recordings are on bach-cantatas, 11, 67, in case it's useful. 22 is not yet mentioned. BWV 11 is not a cantata but the Ascension Oratorio. The titles were probably given in English then, whereas they are now in German worldwide. The translation of BWV 67 is strange, affection instead of remembrance (Gedächtnis). It might be added that performance and recording of Bach cantatas in the 1940s was rare.
  • The linking of the same personnel is not consistent, some are linked only first appearance, some each time.
  • Famous symphonies (Beethoven, Mahler) usually come without key, but if with, it should be consistent.
  • Four Serious Songs (cap!), Vier ernste Gesänge, those I would link each time, to show it's the same music, once in English, once in German. Sometime it's with Op, sometimes without.
  • Alto Rhapsody: I linked one, in brackets, but there are more.
  • Bist du bei mir is not by Bach - but it was not known then.
  • Frauenliebe und - leben: the following entries are simply its parts, that doesn't show.

Kathleen Ferrier (1912–1953) was an English contralto who achieved an international reputation as a stage, concert and recording artist. Her early death from cancer, at the height of her fame, was a considerable shock to the music world. Ferrier began singing professionally in 1937, after winning a singing competition. During the Second World War she performed regularly with the Council for the Encouragement of the Arts (CEMA); her career developed considerably after the conductor Malcolm Sargent recommended her to the influential Ibbs and Tillett concert management agency. In 1946 she made her stage debut as Lucretia in the Glyndebourne Festival premiere of Benjamin Britten's opera The Rape of Lucretia. A year later she sang Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice; these were her only two operatic roles. As a recitalist she became known internationally through her three tours of the United States and her many visits to continental Europe. She continued to perform and record after being diagnosed with breast cancer in March 1951. Her final public appearance was as Orfeo, at the Royal Opera House in February 1953; she died in October that year. No, there were no well-meant horrors in the Ferrier article to deal with te absente, and, as you say, the ill-meant ones were seen off good and proper by vigilant Wiki-colleagues.
