Hi Brianboulton

In case you didn't know, I have nominated "S&M" for FAC once again. It is the tenth nomination. I have collaborated with the co-nominator on the article, and it has been through a Peer Review, of which several people who are experienced with the process gave help. As you opposed my fourth nomination, I would appreciate it if you would re-read the article and give your opinion on how you feel about the article now over at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/S&M (song)/archive10. Hi. Yes, I commented on and opposed the fourth nom, way back in November 2011. Since then you have gained a conom whose work I know, and who has considerable FA experience. You also have two supports on the current FAC, so the auguries look good. I am in something of a rush at the moment as I shall be away for several days from Sunday, and have quite a bit to clear up before then. If I can find a little time before Sunday I'll definitely take a look. I commend you on your perseverence with this nomination which I am pretty sure is an all-time record – I can't think of another with that many noms in my six years at FAC. "Edit source"

First, they changed the position of the edit button from the right of the page to the left. That might have been a sensible idea. Now they have renamed the button "edit source"; that is not a good idea. Is there likely to be anyone who didn't know what the "edit" button was for, and will know now that it's been renamed? This is change for change's sake; the new button is larger, uglier and more intrusive than its predecessor, without offering any obvious benefit. Change it back, I say. Change it back. George Lansbury

George Lansbury (1859–1940) was a British socialist, editor and campaigner who led the Labour Party from 1932 to 1935. He spent most of his political life campaigning for equality, social justice, women's rights and world disarmament. Before entering the national scene he served in the East End of London in numerous local elective offices. First elected to parliament in 1910, he resigned his seat to campaign for women's suffrage, and was briefly imprisoned after publicly supporting militant action. Lansbury became editor of the Daily Herald newspaper, which maintained a strong pacifist stance during the First World War, and supported the 1917 Russian Revolution. Lansbury was excluded from the brief Labour government of 1924, but served as First Commissioner of Works in the Labour government of 1929–31. After the economic crisis of August 1931 Lansbury refused to join the National Government under Ramsay MacDonald and became leader of the Labour Party in opposition. His pacifism in the face of rising European fascism put him at odds with his party, and in 1935 he resigned the leadership. He spent his final years travelling in the United States and Europe in the cause of peace and disarmament. (Full article...)

Diary of a Nobody

Hello, BB. Before I support at FAC, is there no information whatever about the composition of the Diary -- how and when the brothers worked, who had the original concept, and how they moved from concept to publication? Also, in your FAC nomination paragraph, you might note that the diary is a work of fiction or that Pooter is a fictional character. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:53, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

There is nothing I have found which indicates who had the original idea or how they went about their task. GG doesn't mention the collaboration in A Society Clown (which may have been finished before the diary serialisations began) and nor do any of the many sources I have drawn on. At a guess I'd say the idea was probably George's – he had contributed an earlier series to Punch – and Weedon was more of an illustrator than a writer. But there is no confirmation of this, so I think the matter will have to remain open. Unless you can throw light on it... And, yes, I'll clarify the nom statement as you suggest. Hello Brian, I looked you up on the peer review volunteer page and I need your assistance cos I'm in a bit of a pickle. I started this article from scratch and got too excited when it got GA status that i nominated it for FA without forgoing a peer review :s I'm a bit disadvantaged cos English is not my native language and god knows how hard i've tried to get better at writing here but apparently I'm always messing up as you can see here and as one reluctant reviewer said: "there are still areas that could be improved ... prose could be improved..." and I have no clue where to start because getting the article to where it is now was enough of a headache. If you can be kind enough to scan the article for obvious and deadly prose mistakes i'd be very greatful and i think the subject will be of interest to you since you are into ME history... many thanks -Eli+ 19:05, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Brianboulton. Only one person has commented on the Sarnia FAC nomination page in any meaningful way, and he opposes it for prose issues. I ran the entire article through www.readability-score.com, and it shows up at grade level 11-12. He also mentioned a 2-week limit. What's with that? I think it's better as it's the anniversary subject's anniversary. But your choice would be of more importance, - perhaps discuss with Bencherlite. I expect him to be open for two important anniversaries, especially as one is a person, the other his opera, - that should mean even different categories. With 3.5 weeks between the dates in q, I don't have much of a problem with two such fine articles appearing on those dates, but I am merely the ever-so-'umble vessel of the will of the community etc etc and so other people's views may differ... BencherliteTalk 20:44, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

  • So glad you're working on Tippett--a composer who thanks to you should get his due at least on Wiki. Look forward to reading the eventual results. Meanwhile, I've started an article on the Tippett piano concerto that hopefully will complement your efforts on the main article by the time I'm finished. If you have any suggestions on sources, please let me know. While I know the general history on the piece (one of my favorite Tippett pieces despite its reputation for not being one of his best), detailed commentary has so far been a little light. Thanks.
