Why?[edit]

I don't understand why you remove "the" from Symphony No. 2 (Beethoven). That is no true title, such as Fidelio, just a generic name. Consider reverting yourself, in all these cases. You wouldn't say "Second Symphony is a symphony", or would you? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:50, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If the title has "No." then I believe you don't need "the". It's different from "second". Like the following page, for example.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._2_Commando
The style used for symphonies on Wikipedia varies, with some having "the" and some not. You can see a selection here.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_No._5
I don't think "the" is correct. BrightOrion | talk 09:30, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See MOS:VAR: if a given style varies, you should not arbitrarily change it. intforce (talk) 10:13, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:VAR is for "When either of two styles are acceptable" but I don't think "the" is correct English. That's why I am raising the point here. At least it's being discussed now.
The website of Encyclopedia Britannica also corroborates my opinion.

I noticed that you opened discussions on both Talk:Symphony No. 5 (Mahler) and Talk:Symphony No. 3 (Beethoven). Perhaps it would be best to hold a more centralized discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical music. intforce (talk) 10:16, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Gerda and intforce that "The Symphony No. …" sounds more natural. All of LvB's and Mahler's symphonies use that wording. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:04, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am not in any way being rude or impolite, but are you a native English speaker? I ask because it is relevant to this discussion. Gerda I believe is German. I don't know about intforce. Also, where do all of LvB's and Mahler's symphonies use that wording? Please state a source outside of Wikipedia?

I suggest we continue this discussion on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical music page. Tim riley talk 15:19, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature[edit]

Hi there; I notice that your signature as used here for example, uses a bare pipe. This is causing problems on some pages, for example at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Language and linguistics where the entry for Talk:Bengal tiger stops abruptly - at the exact point where your signature has a bare pipe. In accordance with Wikipedia:Signatures#Treat as wiki markup, please fix your signature so that it does not include this bare pipe, for example by altering it from this:

<font color="#0080ff" face="consolas">Bright</font>Orion | <font color="#336699" face="Calibri">talk</font>

to this:

<font color="#0080ff" face="consolas">Bright</font>Orion &#124; <font color="#336699" face="Calibri">talk</font>

You should probably also address the use of the obsolete <font>...</font> tags. Thanks. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:57, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that! Changed it. BrightOrion (talk) 22:11, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Did you know that you can shorten <span style="color:green">Bright</span> to <b style="color:green">Bright</b>, a saving of twelve bytes? This is because the style= attribute is valid on all HTML elements, and the span element is really only useful if no other element encloses the same piece of text. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:12, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure why you took the revert on Bengal tiger to heart, but I don't appreciate looking through my contributions and doing this and potentially this. I get you're trying to fix things, but I know for a fact you would never be on that page without looking through my contributions. Thanks. Groovehx (talk) 13:24, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I didn't do the "longest-reigning" edit. The other edit I did, because I didn't see the distinction between "videos" and "video clips". I found that page by looking at your edits, yes. By the way, why did you feel my ordering of the countries on the Bengal tiger page was "unnecessary"? I listed the countries in order of number of tigers, otherwise it would have been a random listing. It matched the following sentence. No hard feelings!
