Increasing cricket workload

@Mashfi23: Hope you are well. I am sure you are aware of the rapidly increasing number of tournaments involving associate members. I have created and done most of the updates on the majority of these events since late 2018 (you have been helping lately of course!), but it is getting too much now that more events are being played. Barely a week without at least one event, which is great for the game, but I am asking for help... I want to spend less time following scorecards (especially on my phone) and doing live scores, but I need to break the addiction! I find when I start on an event I tend to try to do as much of it as I can, but am going to try to limit myself to only doing "live" updates if I happen to be at my desk anyway.

I will still be doing plenty of updates, squad hunts, etc, just not as many "live". I will also still maintain player lists, and the basic stats on team pages. What I would really appreciate is a bit of help creating pages for some tournaments. Simply hasn't been time. You understand the notability guidelines pretty well so shouldn't have too much trouble getting things through review if you could spare a few mins now and then? The Kwibuka definitely deserves a page, and the men's event in Nairobi at the same time also... I don't suppose you could create one or both of these once two reliable sources are available (there is one in New Times Rwanda for Kwibuka)?

Cheers Bs1jac (talk) 08:04, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

If it was up to me, I probably would've tried (and failed) to make articles/stuff about every single international event there is :P I know now that "hunting" for notable sources has never been a strong point for me, and you seem to have always been doing an excellent job in this particular sector. But, as I have tried before at times, I surely could try creating pages whenever it can be done. I hope you are well too, and thanks for keeping me in mind for this.
As I've been already been creating articles about tournaments in another Wikipedia, I might as well be able to transfer some of that here. Will have to see how well it works though... মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 08:36, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
@Mashfi23: Thanks. Normally I am fine but there are just too many right now. I agree it would be good to have all international events on here but whether we agree or not there are guides in place and the more those limits are pushed they will likely become more strict. This is the one I have so far for the Kwibuka... this is a long-standing event so shouldn't have any trouble if we include this and one more good ref (Uganda will publish something either on the board site, Kawowo, or the Daily Monitor (plus of course czarsportz as an extra). Hopefully something will come up in the next couple of days or so. Bs1jac (talk) 08:43, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
I guess we won't need to worry much about Kwibuka now, as it's almost guaranteed to get coverage- meaning the Kenya tournament is the one I might keep an eye out for. By the way... we might still need help from time to time when ESPNcricinfo messes up things, how to let you know about those (if you don't mind)? মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 11:04, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
I'm still very much keeping involved, don't worry. Just trying to make myself do less "live" updates so that I don't feel the need to be looking so often. That might ultimately free up time to create pages again. Always feel free to tag me in an edit comment, drop a note onto my talk page, or drop a comment tag into the page. Bs1jac (talk) 11:14, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
Understood. Again- take care of yourself, and I'll try to fill in as much as possible. মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 12:21, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
@Mashfi23 Actually going to try to step back from most real time score updates over the next couple of weeks and just enjoy casually followibg the three men's qualifiers (while giving the eyes a bit of a break from screen time). Will focus on stats, team pages etc plus checking the tournaments pages are being properly referenced of course :) Bs1jac (talk) 08:15, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Please move the 2023 Asia Cup from International cricket in 2023–24 to International cricket in 2023 in August section. Axjuo (talk) 15:21, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Yep, I saw someone had put this here. Will work on it after work. Thanks. Bs1jac (talk) 15:23, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Missing information

This is not actually too important so ignore if you want– but just wanted to point out that from the looks of it, it seems that ESPNcricinfo are still to receive/use the official scorecards for a few recent events (namely 2023 Gibraltar Tri-Nation Series, 2023 Bulgaria Tri-Nation series and the 2023 men's Inter-Insular. If possible, can you just ask them if they forgot about it- or if they want it to keep it like this? Appreciate it either way. মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 23:18, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Cricinfo asked me last week about the Bulgaria series as the BCF has not bee responding to them regarding correct details for the umpires. Thought they would have enough basic info though. What's wrong with the inter-insular or the Gibraltar series by the way (I can't remember)? Bs1jac (talk) 07:49, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
Gibraltar series I think ESPNcricinfo copied from ECN as usual- but that meant that three matches (I think) are missing the umpire information which the ECN scorecards also didn't have at the moment (I got that info from the live streams). About the inter-insular, I'm guessing so because the last (abandoned) match has the umpires missing (which usually doesn't happen for washed out matches in a series). Other than that, ECN has had the umpires listed for the Bulgaria series except for the last two matches- which were washed out but did have the toss take place. মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 08:14, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
They have now added the info about the Bulgaria series (I guess BCF has cooperated), so that leaves only a few from recent times ([1] [2] [3] [4]); I wonder if they're going to keep these matches/series in mind মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 07:00, 7 August 2023 (UTC), edited 11:10, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
Some progress at least. Have you seen how busy August, and especially September, is already looking? Seems that there are women's qualifiers in all 5 regions at the same time at the start of September, plus the much awaited ACA qualifier and finals, a few bilaterals, men's Continental Cup, women's Nordic Cup, Asian Games, Gulf Championship and a couple of men's qualifiers between mid-August and the start of October. Bs1jac (talk) 11:39, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
All this after we had a busy June and July too... a couple of free days in the next week or so is all the respite we're going to get, it seems! মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 12:30, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
And Cricinfo tell me they are also awaiting confirmation of T20I status for series between Austria and Germany women, Indonesia and Kenya women, and a tri-series featuring Indonesia, Kenya and Qatar (women, I think), all in August. Bs1jac (talk) 15:22, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Some confusion about that Austria-Germany series now... মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 12:53, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
@Mashfi23 When i asked a couple if days ago cricinfo said unofficial. Bs1jac (talk) 13:59, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
Yeah, their scorecards did say "unofficial" the other day. But now they've changed it to "T20I" suddenly. মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 14:11, 13 August 2023 (UTC)

Zeroes in tables

Just wanted to say (again) why I add those zeroes in points tables- it's because having a digit everywhere makes the columns tidier while editing, while having a digit in one place and not in another makes the columns all wonky and everything. Obviously zeroes aren't required, but adding those does make the table look nicer. The NR fields remain empty by default, so that column remain straight from the start. মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 15:40, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

@Mashfi23 Doesnt have any impact on how the table looks, only on how it is edited, and the table is designed to minimise characters. Not difficult to edit, but if it helps you when you edit then fine. Bs1jac (talk) 15:42, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

WT20I Records page

Bs1jac Someone is disrupting the WT20I record page with her own formatting. It looks like, accessing the page and changing those records on regular basis will be more difficult. If you think the new changes are fine then let me know and we can let it go. Otherwise is it possible to restrict the page to limited users?mitratanmoy (talk) 17:01, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Same person who significantly changed the list of grounds for women's matches. I will have a look later. A lot of it seems unnecessary to me, but not all bad. Bs1jac (talk) 17:18, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Leo Magnus Cricket Complex/Woodley Field in LA

Certainly not too pressing of an issue (at least for now), but wanted to bring this forth just in case– Leo Magnus Cricket Complex has four grounds, one of which recently hosted the matches in the T20 Americas Qualifier. Now ESPNcricinfo (and also the article here) of course call the ground "Woodley Cricket Field", but ESPNcricinfo has separate profiles for this "Woodley Field" and also all four of the named grounds (Marder, Wright, Wong, Severn). So one of those four definitely has two profiles; is this something that can be or should be rectified by them? (The venue was most likely the Wright Field according to what I managed to gather, but it's still valid for any of the four) মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 18:37, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

@Mashfi23 Hmm interesting. I assume they were simply told that the recent event took place at the Woodley Cricket Fields and they just made a new profile to cover the whole venue. I guess not a big deal for now unless more events are held there, across multiple fields. ps. I am trying again to break my addiction to wiki scores and focus mostly on squads, setting up pages, the calendar and attempting to fix issues like these duplicates. Back to enjoying the games instead of hunching over a screen: better for physical and mental health! Will try to let go of 5 years of doing most associate scores after the SAC (which i always enjoy!). Fingers crossed anyway! Bs1jac (talk) 19:01, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
Would definitely want to support you if you want to break this "addiction"; I can certainly try to continue doing the scores and related things if you do go through with this (already have been doing it in a couple of other places anyway, not just associate scores but all senior internationals). Didn't know that you've been doing this for five years though... that's a long time indeed :o মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 19:32, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
Speaking of duplicates, you may have passed on my list to ESPNcricinfo at some point because they did fix a whole lot of the profiles on the list, so thanks a lot for that too মাশ্‌ফী※Mashfi (ETP) 19:33, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
Yeah I did pass some on, glad they fixed a few. I started doing these when universal T20I status came in at the start of 2019 and have done probably 80% of all the main updates (other the games that are overnight for me) since then for associates. Managed to never get into FM stuff, only the occasional update for England if nobody else has done it. More recently with so many series, I feel I am doing some of it because I don't want to handover, and not because I am enjoying it. There are a couple of events coming up that I always enjoy but then I intend to only update innings where I am already at my desk and not using the phone app when I should be doing other things offline. Will definitely still help set up pages too! Bs1jac (talk) 20:26, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Confusions while editing

Mate, you keep saying me editing is causing confusions while you are the one reverting correct edits and changing them. Just leave it at that, if someone else has already made the edit before you. It's not like you get a cup for it. Cric editor (talk) 15:34, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

When it's stats and one editor has clearly done one part a moment ago, it is confusing when another editor changes the remaining part straight after. Means going back to the source to check again what is correct. I reverted one change today because I felt one of us had duplicated and it was easier to go back 30 seconds to a point where I knew what had/had not been done. Still, glad for some help on associate teams and events after several years of work. Bs1jac (talk) 17:04, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Please stop removing the qualification spots

Please stop removing Qualification spots on the Africa Qualifier page. Having green spots with 2024 T20 Mens World Cup next to it is informative and does not say that they have qualified, just that it is the spots that do qualify. This is standard across wikipedia, for example FIFA qualifying gives information about which spots do what.

All you are doing is making it more difficult to understand. Basetornado (talk) 13:07, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

@Basetornado I havent changed this lately; certainly not since before the event began. It's fine being there so long as the statement is future tense "qualifies" not "qualified". Bs1jac (talk) 13:39, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Ah! I'm dumb, Sorry! There is another user with a similar username who has been removing it. My apologies! I just saw that you had been editing it a lot and clicked on the wrong user. Basetornado (talk) 13:42, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
@Basetornado No worries! Bs1jac (talk) 13:59, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
