Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). -Fnlayson (talk) 21:36, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

August 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Bell 429. When removing content, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the content has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. -Fnlayson (talk) 21:42, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some hopefully useful advice, plus a connection[edit]

I apologize if the reaction to the request for confirmation came across as brusque. We have many, many instances where someone wades in, wants something changed immediately, and threatens legal action in the mistaken view that the threat will speed things along. In fact, the reaction to actual legal threats is an indefinite block, and an invitation to talk to Wikipedia counsel.

There's no need for that in this case, and the editor was just trying to warn that we do take that approach.

Back to the substance.

If the material on the Bell Helicopter is flawed, we want to fix it.

We have an established process for people with a conflict of interest -post a suggestion on the talk page of the article, and editors will assess the information, and make a decision. My experience is that people pointing out factual errors get them corrected in virtually all cases.

That process isn't always speedy. If, in fact there is a pressing legal issue, but all means send an email to legal at Wikimedia.org or call Geoff Brigham.

If it can be handled in an orderly fashion, please post at the article talk page.

If it isn't obvious how to post, ask me at my talk page and I'll help.

Interestingly, I can post at the talk page, but I will not post at the article page, because I have a conflict of interest. I have been a consultant for Textron, specifically involving Bell legal issues. For obvious reasons of confidentiality, I cannot say more, except I am not likely to have current information, it has been 15 to 20 years since I worked on that account.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 00:30, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
