Thanks very much! I've never thought of trying out one before, so please let me think about a little. Could you tell me for whom you've done this before, so I could see what you do? Nyttend (talk) 04:59, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I did one for Skier Dude before, but he wanted to stick with his original one. I also did one for ThemeParker. I can do anything you can imagine. I am an expert at HTML/CSS. Here are some previews:
ThemeParker
Tell me what you want it to look like (if you decide you want one). Btilm 05:10, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I think about it, I don't think I'd care for one. Still, thank you very much, especially since you offered without my saying anything to you before! Nyttend (talk) 23:00, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:User Carthage[edit]

Hi, Btilm. Now that Template:User Carthage has been updated into a usable userbox, I'm wondering if you still want to pursue the deletion you proposed? If you do still think it should be deleted, then technically the discussion should be moved to Miscellany for Deletion. All userboxes are supposed to be discussed there, regardless of what namespace they are in. If you don't want to pursue the deletion any longer, just note the withdrawal on the existing discussion, and we won't have to bother with moving it. Thanks. --RL0919 (talk) 14:53, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I had a lot of trouble with CSD once. You might want to reread WP:CSD and follow the external links there. Btilm 20:54, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article creation from a database[edit]

From your questions, I gather that you are interested in how to use databases to create articles. I have done it for two separate projects: one was based on the Census of Governments database that I used (with DThomsen8) to create lists of municipal authorities; the other was based on the Wilkes University Election Statistics Project database to create articles on Senators and Representatives. I'm not sure what kind of articles you are thinking about producing, but I hope my experiences with these articles can help. I am going to give you an simple example to demonstrate the principles. Once you get it, then you can get pretty creative. Make sure you have a database program and a word processing program that can work together, like Excel and Word.

The first thing is to create a database in a spreadsheet program. The values in the spreadsheet will be inserted into a block of text to create the articles. Make sure that the data is organized, clean, and uniform. Most spreadsheet programs have "Text-to-column," CONCATENATE, or find+replace codes, all of which can be useful in manipulating your data. Check the spreadsheet help files or google for information on how to use these, if you are unfamiliar. For example, if you are making biographies of politicians, you would want to make the columns a different aspect of the have your database something like

NAME | DISTRICT | YEARBEGIN | YEAREND| PARTY

Each line of your database is going to be a new article. A lot of the content and construction of the database will depend on your data source. This is probably the hardest part, and requires some creative thinking.

The second step is to construct a mock-up article. This will be your template article. Leave spaces in it where you will take the data from your spreadsheet and insert it into the template article. For example:

{NAME}, a member of the {PARTY}, represents the {DISTRICT} district in Ohio. He has held that position from {YEARBEGIN} to {YEAREND}.

So, if you look over that sentence, you can see where the data values from the spreadsheet fit into that sentence to create something intelligible.

Third, you need to use your spreadsheet to perform a mail merge operation in a word processing program. Mail merges can be tricky at first, but you will figure them out eventually. Check the internet for some good step-by-steps that are tailored to whatever spreadsheet/word processing program you use. Then you will get an output that is basically a bunch of articles all in a document. Then, copy and past into wiki. Enjoy--Blargh29 (talk) 23:07, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Digit_Time_Between[edit]

This template is intended to take two date parameters, precision and magnitude (seconds, minutes, etc) and return just the numeric value with the given precision. This is for some mathematical work I'm doing on a page that has a counter. I'll move it to my user page. aremisasling (talk) 18:20, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. BtilmHappy Holidays! 18:23, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't do much work with Template publishing (or at least I haven't thus far). Is there a process to it or can I push it back out to the Template namespace once it's functional and documented? aremisasling (talk) 20:41, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, here is what I would do. I would create a user subpage like user:btilm/digit time between. I would then program what I need to there. Then I would go to my sandbox, and type in {{user:btilm/digit time between}}, and all of the stuff involving the pipe and the text after the pipe, of course. When the time comes that I see the desirable results, I would move my user subpage to the template namespace and use {{doc}} to create a documentation. Since you already created the title for the template mainspace, you would move your ready-to-go template there and create a documentation. BtilmHappy Holidays! 20:50, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, I just wasn't sure if templates were managed like bots are where there is some level of approval needed. I'll add the template, then as it's functioning now. aremisasling (talk) 22:38, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I do see a few things I will change on the template, though. BtilmHappy Holidays! 22:41, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Btilm, just a quick nitpick: did you intend to sign the reason section of Taylorswiftishot → Iamtherealbatman by Hotdogsatbreakfast? It doesn't really matter, but I thought I'd ask anyway. :) Thanks, LittleMountain5 17:52, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. My bad. Thanks for correcting me. I was copying and pasting but I guess it doesn't really matter. BtilmHappy Holidays! 18:15, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Please be more careful when clerking the changing username boards like you did with this edit. Specifically, the WP:CHU/SUL does allow requests made by IPs in order to allow people to unify their accounts without having to register here first. Regards SoWhy 11:28, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I won't do it again. Btilm 17:52, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 19:09, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And this edit. Why were you reinserting vandalism? Shreevatsa (talk) 19:52, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was trying out the flagged revisions and I must have done something wrong. I was trying to revert it, not reinstate it. Btilm 20:03, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest[edit]

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
