February 2016[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Melleny Melody a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Buddroyce. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Melleny Brown, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Tiggerjay (talk) 16:57, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tiggerjay, thanks for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate it. To be frank, I actually don't get anything out of doing this, monetary or otherwise, I just wanted to make a correction for the sake of correcting the internet(pretty sure you know the feeling). As far as COI goes, I'm not too sure if it's considered a COI if I used to work for the company the artist owns a long time ago but haven't been associated with the artist or the her company for about a decade now. In the spirit of full disclosure about four years ago I did have a brief 6 month stint at a video game company that the artists' husband (Clive Smith) happened to be an investor in but that's about it. (You can have a look at my linkedin page to verify https://ca.linkedin.com/in/budd-royce-lam-6b53b647 ).
The reasoning for me to want to do this whole Wikipedia editing thing was because a couple of weeks ago I wanted to show someone that I used to work for a Care Bear and googled up Melleny Melody, only to find it referencing Melleny Brown, which I knew from former first hand knowledge was not the correct name the artist went by. If you're wondering how I managed to get access to the press archives, after working with a lot of artists in the music industry over the last 15 years, I found most artist with a PR dept keeps old archives of stuff and to get access, you just have to ask, which is what I did.
I currently have no affiliations with the artist other than the fact that the artist was my former boss over a decade ago. My company has no affiliation with the artist and I expect no compensation from doing any of this. If it is deemed that I do have a COI, I'd gladly step back and let someone else do the edit or if there's something I'm doing wrong, please advise so I can improve on what I'm doing.
