Help desk reply[edit]

Hello Bull Market. This is just to let you know that I have responded to your post on the Help Desk. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Gonzonoir (talk) 15:27, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your note:[edit]

What you posted could very well have been construed as vandalism and no, an administrator does not need permission to delete an inappropriate page. The content was as follows:

Emily Austin Emily Perry

Emily Austin Perry

Emily Margaret Austin

Emily Margaret Brown Austin

Emily Margaret Austin Perry

Your intentions may have been good, but this is not an article. It is merely a repeat of variations of someone's name over and over again. You may wish to review WP:YFA before posting a first article. Also, this section is extremely important when communicating with other editors. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:28, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 16:06, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Emily Austin Perry requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Notability[edit]

Your article is going to be deleted, I'm sure, if you can't meet our guideline at WP:People. In fact, it would be a good idea if you let me delete it and copy it to a user subpage of yours to work on until it's ready, if you can meet our criteria, to see the light of day. You probably should have used the article wizard in any case. Dougweller (talk) 18:03, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Emily is one of the founders of Texas. see for example: http://bookshop.blackwell.co.uk/jsp/welcome.jsp?source=rss&isbn=0875653510Bull Market 18:18, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Also, I have clicked on the wizard and it just give criteria. I do not see a tutorial for actually using the wizard. Bull Market 18:19, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Once more:[edit]

You would do very well to review this section. If you continue to leave inapppropriate messages on my talk page or that of any other user, you'll be taking a timeout from editing. You should also review this section before attempting to post new content. I saw your work on your subpages and it looks great. However, any further incivility or unfounded cries of vandalism are going to result in a block. Please do the right thing. If you have a problem or concern, be civil in your inquiry. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 23:15, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PS: The toll-free phone number you left on my talk page came up empty on a reverse lookup. In addition, the link you provided in the above message comes up empty as well. Please note that hoaxes of any kind are immediate grounds for a block. Again, please do the right thing. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 23:18, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's OK. I've seen a surprising amount of red links continue to pop up here and you are absolutely correct in your inclusion of this subject. It is without question a candidate for the "Did You Know?" section of the main page. Yes, I know it's frustrating to have content deleted and yes, it's happened to me as well. Thank you for your thoughtful note. My issue was with your initial reaction, not your contribution. You're catching on quick based on what I'm seeing and I'm very pleased to welcome you to the project. If you ever have a problem with something I've done, just let me know and I'll make it right. Likewise if you have a problem or a concern of any kind. Glad this worked out.  :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:03, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More advice[edit]

I'm not sure if you still want help about the Article Wizard. You're going to have to find reliable sources for your various claims. I'm not challenging them or her notability, just commenting. Do you realise her brothers have articles? James E.B. Austin and Stephen F. Austin, both of which still need more citations which maybe you could work on as well. If you could get [1] from Interlibrary loan it should help a lot. Also see "emily+margaret+brown+austin"&btnG=Search+Books. Make sure everything is in your own words, not just a simple paraphrase. Dougweller (talk) 15:39, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Greetings Bull Market, I see you're up for adoption, and I'm in the market. If ever you need advice or answers, just ask me -- any question, any time. I'd like to help however I can. Happy editing - Draeco (talk) 05:30, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No sweat on Emily Austin Perry. As for James Franklin Perry, I'll put in a bit of work, but I can't find any broken links either. Perhaps someone was referring to the redlinks?
If you're referring to a b c d at the start of some of the footnotes in the footnote section, those refer to each separate instance of that reference (when a references has been cited more than once). If you're referring to the the dark-colored superscript numbers next to the superscript citation number in the middle of the text (for the Cummins citations, for example), they refer to specific page numbers for that citation. This is currently how page numbers are displayed when a reference is cited numerous times, but at different pages within that reference. I don't like it either, it gets unsightly in very well-cited articles, but that's the way it is. - Draeco (talk) 04:41, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nice formatting on the new references, btw. - Draeco (talk) 22:20, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The example you gave is indeed a specific page number within the cited reference. You'll notice some other instances of that reference will have different page numbers displayed. - Draeco (talk) 03:57, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Emily Margaret Brown Austin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When you make a change to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Emily Austin Perry. Richard Austin disambiguation[edit]

I'm glad to see you're staying so prolific on Wikipedia, and even branching out beyond your originial biographical interests. After recently returning from a long vacation, I have finally moved and redirected Richard Austin as you asked. If you asked because you wanted to avoid any impropriety because of your personal involvement, then I applaud your caution, but you were probably safe. If you asked because you were uncertain how to do it, be bold and try it out yourself. Keep chugging - Draeco (talk) 22:46, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article talk pages[edit]

When creating an article talk page, please don't simply say "This is the discussion page" or "Talk page". Include at least some content, even if it's only a tag indicating that the article is part of some project or other.

No harm done; this is just so you know for next time. DS (talk) 15:18, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Logical Quotation[edit]

Welcome to wikipedia. I hope you enjoy your stay. I have reverted several of your edits because Wikipedia does not use US style for quotation marks. Please see WP:LQ--JimWae (talk) 06:28, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Cramer keep argument[edit]

The area where you commented isn't a discussion area: it merely notes the article's history as having once been PRODded for deletion, but then having that PROD contested by another user. At that point, the discussion is over for that or any future PROD. The next step would have been AfD, but that never happened. I've moved your comments down into the regular discussion space. - Draeco (talk) 04:31, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Keynes[edit]

Thought Id reply here cos as you say we're already filling up the talk page with chat. As I tried to indicate, I agree with almost your every point. A wide knowledge of the sources and good logic IMO supports your view. (except if you mean to imply the juvenile quote from Keynes about incompatibility reflects his general view, I can give dozens of reasons why it does not) However, as two editors disagree and have valid policy based arguments we're at an impasse. The consensus model we have here for handling disagreements tends to favour the status quo. So really it needs either one of the opposing editors to change their position, or for several others to weigh in support of your view. Unfortunately other editors tend to react badly if any one person tries to push their point of view too strongly once opposition has came up. On Wikipedia, the kind of argument that can be effective elsewhere can backfire. It takes time to learn the most effective Wiki-ways to approach these content disputes. Often its best to walk away from a particular article, but if you feel strongly about it come back later. I suspect if you waited a month ago and re-inserted the quote with a secondary source to back it up as well as the primary (and they are easy to find even with just google) , then youd have a good chance of getting it accepted. Anyway you seem to be doing some good work here, hope you stay! FeydHuxtable (talk) 16:40, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bull Market:

Thanks for your work. The 'deletionists' are just doing their job, trying to keep wikipedia cleaned up. I can't fault them for it. Here is a link that I have learned a lot from over the years... http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikistress . 'assume good faith' is one wikipedia guideline that i have probably learned the most from.

Here is the link to Assume Good Faith: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:AGF

RE: the Goldman Sachs article... I've been in your shoes before and I know it's frustrating, but i have come to not care where things are on a page, nor do i care to fight with other editors over 'small stuff'.... you wrote a good section, that was factually correct, easy to read, well referenced, and notable. thats the important part imho. i trust readers to find these things. besides the title of the section is at the top of the page in the 'contents' box.

The thing with the other article,,,, i havent really looked into that talk page debate, but if you truly believe Person X is anti-semitic, then if you find some reputable sources who have researched and written about it, then edit the article to say something like 'scholar XYZ from PDQ university wrote a paper in 1979 arguing that Person X was antisemitic. blah blah blah blah blah'. this is viewed as much more reasonable by most wikipedia editors/admins. wikipedia tends to shun 'original research' even if something seems obviously true. Good Luck! Decora (talk) 01:01, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Jay-Z[edit]

Hello Bull Market, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created on {{{5}}}, Jay-Z, has been marked for speedy deletion by User:ClapBoy380 (note: page has no mainspace links, and {{{7}}} edits). This has been done because the page is a blatant advert that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article (see CSD). If you think the tag was placed in error, please add "{{hangon}}" to the page text, and edit the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. If you have a question about this bot, please ask it at User talk:SDPatrolBot II. If you have a question for the user who tagged the article, see User talk:ClapBoy380. Your contributed article, Eric Ortner Productions[edit]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Eric Ortner Productions. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Eric Ortner. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Eric Ortner - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Morbidthoughts (talk) 05:03, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jesse Plemons[edit]

I have reverted the changes you made to Jesse Plemons, as you did not cite a source for contentious material. On biographies of living persons Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. Reliable sources will need to be found before this information can be added. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 16:16, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi talk to me | my contributions, Plemons claims to have had a great, great, great grandfather named Stephen F. Austin, the founder of Texas. The claim is not just false, it is impossible. Austin had no children. Therefore it is impossible for Plemons to be the g, g, g grandson of Austin. Maybe the wiser thing to do is to remove the reference to the interview entirely or Plemons asking the publisher to remove the false statement from his interview. "Stephen F. Austin never married, and he had no children. He was originally buried in Brazoria County, Texas. In 1910, his body was reinterred at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin." Source: https://shannonselin.com/2016/06/stephen-f-austin-founder-texas/. So, are we going to leave up a false statement because the person who said it happens to be alive? What this means is there is proof that Plemons made a claim that is false. The very falsity of the claim is noteworthy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bull Market (talkcontribs) 16:40, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have removed the information per the source you provided. There would need to be multiple sources saying that he lied about his relation to the father of texas. It would be original research to do so based on just the interview. I cannot see any sources from my search of google which talk about this. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 03:26, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Research requiring sources to confirm what is present via common sense? Sometimes the thing speaks for itself. It is not research to cross-reference the first person claim by Plemons that "[Stephen F Austin was my g,g,g, grandfather]" and the absolute fact that "Stephen F. Austin had no children". You need news outlets to write on this inconsistency in order to reference the claim as false? If Austin did have kids, that would be a huge story. But he did not.

Yes we do need sources talking about the inconsistency first, per WP:WELLKNOWN (a part of WP:BLP) and WP:OR. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 19:40, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
