Welcome to the latest issue of the College football WikiProject newsletter! I hope that you're enjoying regular updates about the goings on of college football on Wikipedia, but if not, feel free to add your name to the "no delivery" section on the newsletter signup page.

I encourage everyone to make regular visits to the College Football Portal and perhaps make it your Wikipedia entry page instead of using the Main Page as your gateway. Nominations for selected articles and pictures are always welcome, and can serve as a great way to show off that new article you just shepherded to Good Article status or the great picture you took the last time you were at a game.

Comments and suggestions on improving the newsletter are always welcome, and help me improve it on a monthly basis. Keep contributing and editing, and don't hesitate to contact me or post on the College Football Wikiproject talk page if you need help or just want someone to look over your article.

Thanks for giving my sister a "Welcome" message when she joined Wikipedia on September 13, 2008. Unfortunately, she is not as crazy about Wikipedia as I am. Anyways, thanks. Sorry I didn't thank you earlier. -BlueCaper (talk) 13:05, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject College football February 2009 Newsletter[edit]

The College football WikiProject Newsletter
Issue XV - February 2009
Project news
  • The offseason is here, but that doesn't mean there isn't work to be done. National Signing Day has concluded, and a raft of new players are preparing for the season.
  • Two college football-related featured article candidates have been proposed: 2008 ACC Championship Game and 2008 Humanitarian Bowl need your comments, questions, and criticism to become featured articles.
  • A backlog of college football good article nominees is developing. Six college football articles: Darren McFadden, 1998 Gator Bowl, Mark Sanchez, 1954 Orange Bowl, Thom Darden, and Keith Bostic (American football) need to be reviewed for Good Article quality.
  • A lengthy discussion about the use of team logos in different articles is under way, and your help and comments are requested. Because the argument has gotten heated at times, editors are reminded to stay civil and respect other viewpoints, even if you may disagree with them. An excellent overview about Wikipedia's rules for non-free images can be found here.
  • It's never too early to start thinking about spring football! Be sure to carry a camera and get pictures of players, teams, stadiums, and all the action and pageantry of college football. An excellent guide to taking pictures for WP:CFB can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Images. Even if you don't think a photo can be immediately used for an article, try uploading it to Wikimedia Commons so future article authors can use it.
  • The College Football Portal needs to be updated with featured articles and pictures. Do you have a great picture that illustrates the best of college football? Consider adding it to the featured image queue on the portal.

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians' reputations[edit]

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)

Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.

Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.

Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 21:30, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption Request[edit]

Would you please adopt me? I don't extend more on my information because I have to log off in a bit to go to work, but if you want to find out more about me, please, send me an e-mail (jozepedro.27@gmail.com), to which I'll answer as soon as possible.

Thanks for the atention.

JozePedro (talk) 12:49, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so very much! Please forgive me if I become boring over time, but I'm really excited about becoming part of the Wikipedia comunity! For now, I have only two questions: how do I add sources to information (specifically this article, if you want to check it out: Pousada de Saramagos?, and how do I put those thingys people have on their user pages on the left? Thanks. JozePedro (talk) 20:07, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Terrell Owens Page.[edit]

I edited the article to say that he was NOT fined for one of his stunts. To quote the article wikipedia cites: "The NFL, in fact, said Tuesday that Owens would not be fined."

Thank you in advance for your apology. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.60.197 (talk) 23:03, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not citing wikipedia. I am citing the article which wikipedia cites. You didn't even read my response correctly.

This is my citation, which happens to be the same citation as before, http://static.espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/1015/1446494.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.60.197 (talk) 23:09, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gneiss Article[edit]

Bastard Granite and Stratified Granite are well known terms for Gneiss... I assume you deleted it because of the word bastard? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.164.126.61 (talk) 06:12, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, usually that's a good sign of vandalism. My bad. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 06:16, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry[edit]

Sorry, I didn't know anyone liked the BSB that much to read an article about their CD, I was just mad that their CD sold so many wastes of plastic and my favorite who is a much better artist didn't sell that much. I wont do it again, although I wish I could. It was minor and I didn't know it was vandalism. User talk:75.37.61.195

Oh[edit]

I have considered an account, but I dont ever use it. Haha. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.37.61.195 (talk) 07:02, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's cool. Do you contribute to articles you know alot about or just anything? I can never see how there are all these people who have created and contributed to over 100 articles and stuff. --75.37.61.195 (talk) 07:07, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't ask that one, I know you don't get paid. I just wanted to know how you found the messed up articles so fast. I used to want to do that and revert vandalism. --75.37.61.195 (talk) 07:17, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hi[edit]

so just wondering...what motivates you to protect wiki from getting vandalized? do you get paid to do this?

Thank you![edit]

Hi, just wanted to say thanks for reverting that IP vandalism to my user page! Keep up the work! Zaps93 (talk) 15:56, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have been trying to change the wikipedia page of "Dan Cramer" because you have the wrong nickname on wikipedia. He is not "Pretty Boy". Tim Credeur called him that one time on the show, his nickname is "Junior Killa" ever since high school. I have been a personal friend of Dans since 5th grade. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.82.16.217 (talk) 18:06, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fruitful discussion[edit]

I think we should discuss the benefits of vandalism. I contend that reverting vandalism allows new users to become comfortable with Wikipedia, leading to more important edits in the future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.31.36.193 (talk) 18:25, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?[edit]

Although I understand that the information in that article was incorrect, all I did was put brackets around the names to link to the articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.79.104.96 (talk) 20:32, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
