RE:AIV[edit]

LOL, that was an accident with Huggle. It usually brings up a "block" box but for some reason it reported it to AIV.   jj137 (talk) 04:30, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I thought it was funny when I saw what had happened.   jj137 (talk) 04:36, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep – it's an external program, while Twinkle is a JS script and in-browser. It's amazingly fast (click once and the vandalism will be reverted and the user warned literally in under two seconds).   jj137 (talk) 04:55, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What I do after the "Action complete" is go to the vandal's user talk page and click "edit". I wrote a basic little script a few days ago that added tabs with all of the warnings because I was tired of manually typing in or copy and pasting the warnings there. When I click the tab I want ("1", "2", "3", "4", "4im", or "block"), it adds the appropriate warning, a shared IP notice, and an edit summary. Very basic, but it works for me.   jj137 (talk) 15:35, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Back on Wikipedia. The strangest thing happened last night. The IP address I was using at the time was blocked out of nowhere. I checked the contributions and it had a total of about 10 edits over the last 2 years, 2 of which appeared to be vandalism. The rest were test edits at the Wikipedia sandbox and legit edits. I appealed the block and another admin came along and said "I'm not addressing your unblock request, but just for the heck of it, I'm blocking this IP for 2 weeks." Pretty weird, considering that when I report vandals it's very hard to get them blocked for 24 hours, let alone 2 weeks. Anyway, I'm back now. Enigma msg! 15:21, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject College football March 2008 Newsletter (full contents)[edit]

The College football WikiProject Newsletter
Issue IV – March 2008
Project news
  • SatyrBot is now delivering weekly updates to the Wikiproject College Football to-do list. Have a few minutes, but don't want to start a whole new article? Check out the to-do list and knock one or two items off. If everyone pitches in, it'll go a long way towards making Wikiproject College Football the best source for college football information on the Internet.
  • Gwguffey has created a series of navigation boxes for college football stadiums for every state in the United States. If you're creating an article about a new stadium or updating a current article about a stadium, be sure to include one. It'll make the page more useful to readers, and they look darn nice, too.
  • SatyrBot assessed approximately 4,300 previously-unassessed college football articles. There are still over 1,500 unassessed articles out there, so if you get a chance, feel free to lend a hand.
  • If it becomes necessary to use an archaic name for a university, link to the modern name and/or Wikipedia page. Example: Virginia Polytechnic Institute. This is particularly common in articles dealing with subjects prior to the separation of NCAA divisions in the 1970s. (Discussion)
  • A motion to create a Wikiproject High School Football has been brought up on the talk page.
  • Editors are reminded that any template that automatically includes a fair-use image (such as a university logo) will be automatically deleted by Wikipedia. Instead, create a general template that asks the user to select the logo rather than automatically including the logo inside the template.
From JKBrooks85

Welcome to the latest issue of the College football WikiProject newsletter! I hope that you're enjoying regular updates about the goings on of college football on Wikipedia, but if not, feel free to add your name to the "no delivery" section on the newsletter signup page.

I encourage everyone to make regular visits to the College Football Portal and perhaps make it your Wikipedia entry page instead of using the Main Page as your gateway. Nominations for selected articles and pictures are always welcome, and can serve as a great way to show off that new article you just shepherded to Good Article status or the great picture you took the last time you were at a game.

Comments and suggestions on improving the newsletter are always welcome, and help me improve it on a monthly basis. Keep contributing and editing, and don't hesitate to contact me or post on the College Football Wikiproject talk page if you need help or just want someone to look over your article.

Hey[edit]

Would you mind if I look for a different adopter? I appreciate all your (and RC's!) help, but it seems that you're not on very often these days. I'm glad I met you and RC, though. It's good to chat with other NFL fans on Wikipedia. The reason why I'm asking is because there are others who have expressed interest in adopting me. I guess because I've become very active. Enigma msg! 03:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine with co-adoption. I didn't know that was an option. Glad to hear you're back. As for Favre, I dunno. I'm glad that Rodgers will finally get his chance in Green Bay. Favre had a good season, but seemed to revert to his 2005/2006 self a few times, including against Dallas and against the Giants. It's funny that the people at packers.com that screwed up by accidentally posting a story about Favre retiring turned out to be right. I really think part of Favre's decision was him being pissed off about Moss. He wanted Moss last offseason and didn't get him. He wanted him this offseason and didn't get him. Enigma msg! 04:12, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I heard about the Rogers trade. As for the contract thing, it's like Jenkins with the Jets. Apparently he wouldn't be happy if he didn't get a large upgrade to his contract. Cleveland better have put weight clauses in like the Jets did. As for Green Bay, just gotta hope Rodgers can stay healthy. I was pretty impressed watching him against the Cowboys, especially after Favre first tried to sabotage Green Bay's chances in that game, and then got hurt. Favre getting hurt was the thing that kept them in the game. Enigma msg! 04:45, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't even notice the vandalism until you mentioned it. Thanks for having my back! I'm actually surprised I haven't gotten more of those messages, considering that I've reverted and warned hundreds of users in the last few days. The biggest one I got was some link-spammer last night that hit my user/talk pages like 10 times before finally getting blocked. I was waiting for someone on AIV to block him, and he just kept going on my user page. Enigma msg! 04:47, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh, Culpepper. He's horrendous and likely to get injured again. I wouldn't touch him, personally. Funniest part of the offseason, for me, was when Jacksonville signed Cleo Lemon. It's like they just get whatever the best black QB is. Last white QB on their roster, aside from Todd Bouman being like the emergency QB for a few weeks was probably Brunell in 2003. Enigma msg! 04:50, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep on Trying[edit]

I'm guessing that you didn't find my real secret page, noticing that you have The "I Cheated" barnstar and The Super Fake Barnstar. Well keep on trying. Also, thanks for the comment of my userpage.--RyRy5 (talk) 01:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be annoyed[edit]

There are alot of fake pages so don't get to annoyed. So far, only 3 users have found my secret page in a matter of 2 days. Although, 2 of them cheated. Thats the reason I created the "I Cheated" barnstar and then changed my secret page to a different name. I'll try to find your secret page. PS. Don't copy my userpage too much.--RyRy5 (talk) 01:29, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You found my Secret Page! Great Job! I'm still trying to find yours though.--RyRy5 (talk) 01:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Changing Backround[edit]

The reason why I put alot of fake pages is because you can highlight the backround and see all the links. If there was only one link, it would be easy to find my secret page.--RyRy5 (talk) 01:36, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hard[edit]

Your secret page is hard to find. Can you please give me a clue? BTW, your userpage looks nothing like mine, so what did you copy off? ;)wink--RyRy5 (talk) 01:47, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I found it! This is what I did:1. I read your clue. 2. I ate dinner. 3. I went over the intro but didn't find anything. 4. I found it! I suggest deleting #3 on this list.--RyRy5 (talk) 02:14, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it wasn't all that hard, even without the clue, OK it was hard without the clue, I mean, I didn't even know that you could color in links. BTW, do you have a Wii?--RyRy5 (talk) 02:46, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re:Wii[edit]

Too bad. I guessed that you liked baseball, so if you had a Wii, there is a really popular baseball game for Wii. It's called MLB Power Pros. You can visit the link. I created half of the page MLB Power Pros. Also visit the talk page for it if you can.--RyRy5 (talk) 03:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Position as assistant organizer[edit]

Hey Burner0718! I have been going around to other WikiProjects to get ideas for ours, and I have decided having an assistant organizer would be a good improvement to help out with making basic decisions for the project. Is it alright with you if I nominate you as an assistant organizer? You will still have to be approved by other members, but I just wanted to ask you here before nominating you. I have also asked Burner0718, so that means that if both of you accept you may have to be co-assistant organizers. I think most projects have a lead organizer and three assistants. Well, let me know. Your Invites[edit]

I know I invited you and I should return the favor by accepting your invites but...I'm not a basketball fan. I don't know much about basketball or any basketball team for that manner. Sorry but I can't accept. Maybe in the future I'll join. Thanks.--RyRy5 (talk) 02:08, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again.

Adoption?[edit]

I don't really understand the whole point of adoption. I saw the userbox on your userpage. Can you explain to me what you are supposed to do and what the whole point of adoption is?--RyRy5 (talk) 02:16, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I guess I'll adopt somebody...Maybe. By the way, could you please start another heading on my talk page during your next message on a new topic? If you look at the reply heading on my talk page, it is very long. I know it is your reply and you put your reply under reply, but please start a new heading. Not to be mean.--RyRy5 (talk) 02:35, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One more question about adoption. Who teaches who? Example:I adopted ????, does ???? teach me about wikipedia or do I teach ???? about wikipedia? PS. I'm adding you to my friend list. If you look at the About RyRy5 file and open it, you will see your name there in those userboxes. You also have one.--RyRy5 (talk) 02:43, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. Look at my userpage and then look at RyRy5's Userboxes. Under that you should see My Friends. I am also going to use some of your userboxes, by that I mean copy/paste your userboxes. Hope thats OK.--RyRy5 (talk) 03:00, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I just made an adoptoffer. His/Her (probably her) username is Queerbubbles. Hope she/he accepts.--RyRy5 (talk) 03:39, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Riana's request for bureaucratship[edit]

Dear Burner, thank you for taking part in my RfB. As you may know, it was not passed by bureaucrats.
I would, however, like to thank you for taking the time to voice your support, despite concerns cited by the opposition. Although RfA/B isn't really about a person, but more about the community, I was deeply touched and honoured by the outpouring of support and interest in the discussion. I can only hope that you don't feel your opinion was not considered enough – bureaucrats have to give everyone's thoughts weight.
I also hope that the results of this RfB lead to some change in the way we approach RfBs, and some thought about whether long-entrenched standards are a good thing in our growing and increasingly heterogenous community.
I remain eager to serve you as an administrator and as an editor. If at any point you see something problematic in my actions, please do not hesitate to call me out. ~ Riana 12:35, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. I didn't mean for it to turn into all this sillyness! Didn't mean to be the "king" of any WikiProject – I was only trying to take the steps necessary to create one. And when I proposed the merger, I meant it to benefit the Alternative Education project, and not try to get more members for WP Homeschooling. Welcoming Committee Tips[edit]

Here are a few tips:

  1. Create your own welcome. Be sure you of course say welcome.
  2. If their talk page isn't created yet, use your welcome to create it.
  3. A good place to look for new users are the recent changes and the User creation log
  4. Be sure you talk a little about yourself in your welcome
  5. How I welcome 50+ users a day is:
  • Craete my own welcome in my sandbox
  • I copy the welcome
  • I paste the welcome to the new users talk page.

This is my welcome: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm RyRy5, recent changes patroller and part of the welcoming committee. I noticed that you're new here so I decided to welcome you. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any questions you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} and your question on your user talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer. Here are a few good links for newcomers like you:

If you think you need a tutor, you should consider adoption by an experienced user. I hope you enjoy editing here and being Wikipedian! By the way, you should always sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump, or you can ask an experienced user, like me, on my talkpage. Again, welcome to Wikipedia!--RyRy5 (talk) 02:37, 18 March 2008 (UTC):This is the end of my welcome.Hope this helps.--RyRy5 (talk) 03:47, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anniversery[edit]

I have been at wikipedia for 1 month now starting today! I also beat your edit count. I even adopted 1 other person.--RyRy5 (talk) 02:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The other person is Voyaging. There is also another user who is asking me to adopt her. I also added another person to my friend list. Did you accept the Invite above?
Three of the people on my friend list are in the same school and class as me. I just told them about making a wikipedia account and they decided to make one. How about you?--RyRy5 (talk) 03:25, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ok here's a question[edit]

maybe a little difficult, but is there a place where you can see all the redirects you created? Enigma msg! 03:52, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I answered for you.--RyRy5 talk 22:21, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Note: See this tool for new redirects created. It doesn't count existing articles changed into redirects, however. Enigma message Review 01:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scouting[edit]

OK, look at the mainpage and you should see the heading Scouting Report. Click on the word edit next to the heading Reports to add your report. Please visit the scout members list and fill out your name. I'm pretty sure you know all this but there is a new design at the mainpage--RyRy5 (talk) 18:44, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to the Scouting Business! The scouts here to monitor all members of the Red Sox WikiProject. We then add any information that we find to the Scouting Report on the main page. The whole scouting business is used so everyone else can see what and how the WikiProject is doing. If you scout often and if you add numerous reports to the main page, a manager will be sure to promote you.

Looking for somewhere to start or do you have nothing to do? Here are a few things you can do:

  • Monitor member's contributions using the members list at the Scouting Office, and if you find a report, add it to the Scouting Report at the main page.
  • Invite other people to join the WikiProject by adding {{WP BOSOX INVITE}} on their talk page so that you can monitor more people.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to talk about the scouting business in general, feel free to leave a message on the Office's talk page or ask the founder of the scouting business on RyRy5's talk page.

WikiProject College football April 2008 Newsletter (full contents)[edit]

The College football WikiProject Newsletter
Issue V – April 2008
Project news
  • This month is spring practice season for most college football teams. Be sure to update your team's season article and grab a few pictures if you're lucky enough to be on hand for a spring game. Remember, even the worst picture of all is better than the picture that wasn't taken.
  • The number of College Football Good Articles being added to the project continues to grow. Nine new GAs were added in March, bringing the total of GAs produced this year to 29. At the current rate, the project will produce 116 GAs this year, nearly three times the number of GAs that were produced in the past two years. Keep up the great work!
  • With all the new GAs and FAs produced by the project, reviewers and commenters are continuously needed. Keep an eye on the project talk page, WP:FAC and WP:GAC for new college football articles to review and comment upon. Even one suggestion or support message goes a long way toward helping create a new Featured or Good Article.
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish football under Tyrone Willingham and Skip Holtz need a Good Article review.
  • A discussion is ongoing about the possibility of creating a master team list for Division 1-AA, Division 2, Division 3, and NAIA football teams.
  • A discussion about article notability is ongoing on the project talk page. Editors are encouraged to participate.

Dallas Mavericks Article of the Week:

  • Jason Terry was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the tenth overall pick in the 1999 Draft. His excellent performance earned him a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Team, becoming only the second Hawk to do so. Within a year, he became one of the team's best players and top scorers. The Mavs showed interest in making him a part of their team, and he was traded to the Mavs in 2004, just prior to the start of the season. A solid shooter and three-point shooter, Terry has become an integral part of the Mavs lineup. Historically, he has had mixed performance in the playoffs.

I'm good. I heard from Kimu that you were busy with some college work. Anyway, I'm doing good. I have over 7200 edits. But a little over 1700 mainspace edits. I have reverted at least 100 vandals in the past 2 days. I redesigned my userpage (Which looks like User:Excerial and Jj). I've also made good friend with User:Basketball110, I've created 13 articles, I'm in the midst in upgrading Jackie Robinson to WP:GA and alot more. So, when will you be online more often?--RyRy5 (talk) 02:46, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll check it out. Oh, Kimu told me you were in college, but byou say your in high school. Which one is true if you don't mind me asking?--RyRy5 (talk) 03:03, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Also, do you mind making those articles you asked me to look at link? It's kinda hard to tell what article you want me to check.--RyRy5 (talk) 03:16, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give you my opinion one at a time.

  • OSU – I suggest creating article for all the red links and adding a few more references.--RyRy5 (talk) 03:40, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject College football June 2008 Newsletter[edit]

The College football WikiProject Newsletter
Issue VII – June 2008
Project news
  • There's still more than two months until the 2008–2009 college football season kicks off, but that's no reason to stop editing! Plenty of historical articles, such as past bowl games, need to be written, and editors are always needed to update teams' season articles. Don't fall into the summer malaise — check out the to-do list on the Wikiproject College football talk page.
  • Wikiproject College Football recently created its first featured topic, ACC football championship games. Featured topics are collections of good- or featured-level articles, and represent the apex of featured content on Wikipedia. If you have multiple good or featured articles that can be connected by a common topic or article, consider submitting them as a featured article. There are currently very few featured topics and even fewer sports featured topics.
  • Several NAIA coaches' articles (ex. Ronald Beard) were nominated for deletion, but were rescued by editors.
  • Paul McDonald has created a formal draft of notability requirements for college football articles at Wikipedia:WikiProject College Football/Notability. This is an updated draft of the older proposed guidelines and goes into far more detail. All editors of college football articles are requested to examine the document and leave comments or suggestions. If implemented, it will affect future AfD discussions dealing with college football articles.
  • The College Football Portal needs more pictures scheduled. Do you have a great picture that illustrates the best of college football? Consider adding it to the featured image queue on the portal.

WikiProject College football August 2008 Newsletter[edit]

The College football WikiProject Newsletter
Issue IX – August 2008
Project news
  • There's less than one month until the 2008–2009 college football season kicks off, and that's no reason to stop editing! Plenty of historical articles, such as past bowl games, need to be written, and editors are always needed to update teams' season articles. Break out of the summer malaise and get ready for kickoff — check out the to-do list on the Wikiproject College football talk page.
  • A hearty congratulations should go out to everyone who has elevated an article to Good Article status since January 1. During the past seven months, the project has more than doubled the number of Good Articles! In 2006 and 2007, there were a total of 40 college football GAs. In the first seven months of 2008, we've created 42. Give yourself a pat on the back! For those of you who haven't yet created a college football good article yet, what are you waiting for? At the present rate, there will be more than 120 by year's end. Be a part of something bigger and build a GA-class college football article today!
  • During the past few months, an excellent notability guideline for college football articles has been constructed at Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Notability, but your help is needed to make it complete. In particular, your help is requested in defining what makes a college football player notable — Is it being a multiple year starter at a position? Is it being named the best player at a position? Or is it something as simple as holding a school, conference, or national record? Participate in the debate at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football/Notability.
  • The College Football Portal needs to be updated with featured articles and pictures. Do you have a great picture that illustrates the best of college football? Consider adding it to the featured image queue on the portal.
