Suggested edits to List of floods in Sheffield[edit]

Hi George

I've made some suggestions for changes to this page which you created some time ago, and I think the bits I'm proposing changing were yours. I'm no expert on this stuff, but there seems to be a discrepancy between your floods page and the main Sheffield page. I'd love to hear what you thought, if you have time before I make the changes which I've proposed on the corresponding Talk page.

Just wondering, given that the existing title conformed to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (aircraft) why you moved it so that it no longer conforms to that? - Ahunt (talk) 21:04, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Given your lack of response in the past month, it has been moved back. - Ahunt (talk) 00:54, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Network Norwich and Lynx articles-sourcing[edit]

Hello George, thanks for these articles.

I was reading them and trying to review them, and I'm a bit concerned by the lack of sourcing. For instance, in the Network Norwich article it claims that "the network was launched on 23 September 2012"–can you add where this information comes from? The same for the History section of the Lynx article which has no sources.

Sorry but I just don't feel I can mark these articles as reviewed yet when it's not clear where information in them is coming from. Blythwood (talk) 16:44, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Norwich, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. SovalValtos (talk) 19:00, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have cited a reliable source - look at the edit again. Not sure why you reverted that edit or messaged me here. Buttons0603 (talk) 19:01, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Norwich was not found on searching your citation: www.eswd.eu/cgi-bin/eswd.cgi . Are you sure you cited it as required? Secondarily to that, a minor weather event does not seem to be of sufficient notability to add to the History section.SovalValtos (talk) 20:34, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ctrl+F won't do it, you have to apply filters to show up specific events, but doing this doesn't appear in the URL so it can't be linked. ESWD is the source used to cite most articles about European tornadoes so it is considered a reliable, if difficult at times, source Buttons0603 (talk) 20:37, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I will suspend judgement as to whether ESWD is a suitable source but I have my doubts as another source considered reliable, the UK metoffice, gives a different date for an outbreak [1]. I do not know which if either is correct. Surely a less problematic source than ESWD would be preferable and easily found for a notable event and given the disagreement with the metoffice please could you replace it?SovalValtos (talk) 21:26, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Met Office is the only source I've seen saying 21st rather than 23rd so I think they have made an error on this occassion. I'll have a look for other sources tomorrow anyway but ESWD is the one generally used. Buttons0603 (talk) 22:12, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Having a section for every minor tornado in every place affected is really too much. I suggest you devote your time to just making a separate entry for the places that had the most severe UK tornados on that day, and try to find a better citation - Having to register and log on to see any reference is certainly not ideal, especially since there is no mention of any of the UK tornados in the top 25 listed publically - this alone should tell you about the significance of citing every one of them! If any are kept, you also need to improve the method of entering the references - bare weblinks are not sufficient - especially when you must log on and do something else to see the actual citations.  DDStretch  (talk) 13:47, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and am reverting some of your edits per wp:trivia. These were very minor weather events that had no lasting effects. Make an article and add a link to it in the See Also sections. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 16:38, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand concerns with the citations admittedly but I really do not understand this. How is a tornado a "very minor weather event" regardless of lasting effects or not? Buttons0603 (talk) 15:37, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There are certainly some tornadoes that are notable: entire towns in the US have been erased. The UK has many tornadoes but they are almost all trivial internationally. The ones in Milton Keynes barely made the local paper; if mentioned nationally it was only in the context of a national outbreak. It was nothing like the street in Birmingham [I think] that got thoroughly hammered. My challenge was on grounds of "not notable", not that tornadoes are not worthy of mention period. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 09:56, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit[edit]

I was interested to see that you recently added some information about a suit that Neil Clark issued on Oliver Kamm. There have been several attempts to include this information on the Kamm page but each time it has been deleted. Your addition was initially slightly amended by an editor and has now been deleted because “RT is not a reliable source”. There seems to be no claim that the information is inaccurate and your edit is confirmed by information on Clark’s blog. The information seems to be appropriate and I think should remain in the article. As far as I can determine there is no prohibition on using RT as a source so I don’t see why your addition is a problem. If Clark’s blog is used as a source an editor could say that blogs are not reliable sources (although what a person says about themselves on their blog may be acceptable I think). What do you think? An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect MTR Crossrail. Since you had some involvement with the MTR Crossrail redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:18, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm B dash. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, 2018 Pacific typhoon season, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.
