Not to be forgotten...[edit]

Considering the imposters (sp?) that have worn Cubs uniforms over the years, maybe you also need a section, "To be forgotten". This year, LaTroy Hawkins would be at the top of that list. This category might be regarded as POV, though. d:) Wahkeenah 30 June 2005 19:58 (UTC)

Well, you can also say the Not to be forgotten is a POV also. (--CFIF June 30, 2005 20:04 (UTC))

Other Broadcast Networks[edit]

It looks as if we might need two "Others" categories, one for English stations and the other for Spanish and other foreign language stations -- each will have their own share of independent stations included... Because I'm starting to notice that some networks have concentrated affiliations in random areas (i.e.: Template:Univision California, Template:Telefutura California, Template:California Independent Stations and Template:Other California Stations)... What do you think??? --WIKISCRIPPS 07 MON JUN 12 2006 2:57 PM EDT

CFIF for your Support!
I I feel truly humbled & honored by your support in my RfA, which closed at 90 / 5 / 0. Thank you! If you need me for anything, just say the word. For now however, just like Mr Potter here:

I did it wrong![edit]

Hi Chris,

I got your message about vandalisim. What it turns out I was doing was editing incorrectly. I explained my reasons for the edit in the unprotected page here in Wikipedia. But because I wasn't using the proper form of editing and contributing, it got out that I was doing it incorrectly. I apologize for that! I've tried to add as much information and clarify details I know (because I work in the industry) on the New England TV pages.

I hope I didn't offend anyone and I hope all is well. I will always try to be a positive (and registered!) contributer!

Hi. You contributed to the discussion at Wikipedia:Protecting children's privacy. If you have the time and interest, I'm asking contributors to past a brief summary of their position on the proposal here, thanks. Herostratus 20:01, 21 September 2006 (UTC) [reply]

The correct deletion reason for this would be something like CSD A1, or something of that nature, we don't deltete things if they are terribly written. (this is a wiki, we can always re-write.). Just a heads up. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 16:18, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hey CFIF!

Thanks for the note, and your fix-up of my goof on user:Mr.T99's talk page. I've protected it from editing, since he likes to add nonsense to it. Now he can edit 0 pages. I'll try to keep a watch on that other user. Let's give him enough rope, though. As for your comment on WikiProject TV Stations, yes, I care about the quality of images on the TV station articles. I thought it was obvious that PNGs of graphics are better than GIFs or JPGs, so I didn't respond (no discussion needed). I see now that was a mistake; your note indicates you were frustrated about the lack of attention the message received. I assure you, that's not the case! In fact, let me go ahead and award you this barnstar.

Thanks! Mr.T99 whoever that is, is apparently crazy and likes to edit others' comments. --CFIF 20:36, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, if this other guy turns out to be the same user, we'll probably find out really soon, and then it's easy enough to block indefinitely. Let's cool it with terms like "crazy", though: that could be seen as a personal attack, and we shouldn't be personally attacking people, even if they're vandals. I'm glad you like the barnstar; it looks really nice and shiny on your page, even if it's not really metal. ;) Firsfron of Ronchester 20:46, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. As you know, I'm trying to get better with that. Anyways, I think we need to create a special tag for TV logos once the new guidelines come in that says something along the lines of: This TV logo needs to be replaced to conform with WikiProject Television Stations guidelines. --CFIF 20:49, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Do you use AutoWikiBrowser, CFIF? You can actually use it to make a list of all the TV station pages that have a .jpg image, and automatically tag the talk page so you know what pages need fixing. It's pretty cool. Firsfron of Ronchester 21:02, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just did, thanks! Anyway, this'll probably be the only thing we can come to an agreement on at TVS. --CFIF 21:06, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, cool! I see you're on the "Awaiting approval" AWB list. Once you get the approval (seems likely to me), if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I've found a lot of weird and interesting ways to use it, especially in tandem with Notepad. It's a really neat tool. :) Firsfron of Ronchester 21:13, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey CFIF,
Thanks for the note on my talk page. Re:Donotsayno: I don't really see the problem with this edit (despite some spelling issues). I will grant you the other three diffs are really odd: "Sounds like cold as in frezzing! BIRRRRRRRR!" and the other two.
However, the diffs provided for trying to resolve the dispute are lacking. Giving someone a vandalism warning, as shown in Diff#1, isn't trying to resolve a dispute. In fact, none of the four diffs you linked to show an attempt at resolving a dispute. Can you come up with diffs that actually show people have tried to resolve a dispute? It's certainly difficult when the other party never responds (v. similar to BenH), but then, it's not really a dispute.
This user also has hundreds of contributions that have not been reverted. Is it really just these three or four diffs, or are there more edits that have been reverted?Firsfron of Ronchester 21:08, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it doesn't appear you have notified the user in question that s/he is being commented upon. I'm sure that's a requirement somewhere. Firsfron of Ronchester 21:42, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But, you must admit, he is testing our patience with his poor spelling skills and sometimes non-sensical edits. --CFIF 22:39, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My intention now is to slowly ease into using those additional buttons on my page. No use being over eager and mucking up the works. The support of all those who went over my record and/or rallied to my defense after the big oppose vote was instumental to the success of this review. Just noticed this ip edit [3] from 66.219.198.22 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) on WNBC which has as the edit summary Reverted vandalism from a Florida teenager who can't even watch the station to see how it brands. Given the randomness and content of the edits of the ip, it could be a public access machine or an open proxy. Plus, it is tagged as a sock of Alienus (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). For what it is worth, the edit is a fine, since the station is using both brandings. TV Newser Tipline 15:16, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cory Lidle[edit]

I removed "blog-like" "breaking news" updates to the Lidle page. An encyclopedia doesn't use the present tense such as "ESPN is now reporting..." or "The Mayor is now claiming that...".--Kester Teague 22:14, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but it does. This is a Wiki, not Encarta. Thank you. --CFIF 22:15, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Every article I've ever read here uses the passive voice, not the present tense. I can find no article of a current event that uses the tense "Someone's on TV now saying...". Style like that is for blogging or myspace, not an encyclopedia.

Re: Logo Galleries & User:A Man In Black[edit]

I hope I'm not interupting anything but haven't you noticed AMIB's behavior??? He's constantly removing the logo galleries from TV articles due to "fair use" concerns. But we always had galleries with no problem!!! What do you make of this??? --WIKISCRIPPS 07 THU OCT 12 10:30 PM EDT

I have read WP:FUC, and I'll reiterate my original stance: I DISAGREE with the administrator's opinion on this matter. I believe the images in the galleries completely fall under the guideline set in point no. 8, as they DO CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANTLY to the main theme of the article(s) and do not exist for purely decorative purposes. Areas that can be considered shaky ground would be found in points 1 and 3, though as long as we continue to properly credit sources and keep redundancy to a minimum (i.e. the same logo appearing more than a few times with just background changes, etc.), that should be acceptable.

We should be able to keep the galleries, and A Man in Black should not be imposing his will (a way of possibly abusing his administrative powers) upon us without first giving us an opportunity to speak our opinion. Rollosmokes 08:44, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed with all, and this would pretty much also kill useful TVS articles like Circle 7 logo (what use is writing about Circle 7/2-69 logos without showing Circle 7/2-69 logos?), and also apply to cable networks in turn. Plus logo and graphics changes are mentioned in more than a few articles within the text, so to say (w)e don't do galleries of images for the sake of galleries of images doesn't clear up the argument to me...they're done to illustrate what is a visual medium, and without the pictures, the articles lose the impact, especially if a logo is mentioned in the text. If it's a matter of fair use we have that covered with the tv-logo tag, and we're only using it to illustrate the product (in this case a station instead of Wonder Bread), not for any kind of commercial gain. Nate 09:08, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There has been ongoing debate about galleries of logos for some time, and at least one user was blocked for breaking the Fair Use policy. See Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Kelly Martin2 for details. Galleries of logos were already removed from the List_of_United_States_over-the-air_television_networks. For the record, I believe the Circle 7 logo article is an exception: this article's central topic is the logo and its changes through the years, thus the images are central to the discussion. It is likely, however, that the galleries of logos on other remaining pages will be removed. Firsfron of Ronchester 09:31, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In a spooky sort of way, I found it amusing that one of the socks was pathetic enough to use the handle "CBS 10 Philadelphia." IIRC, what was initally the Viacom Mandate didn't even come into existence until years after WCAU-TV was divested to NBC due to the pre-merger strategic partnership between CBS and Group W. I could be wrong, but didn't WCAU-TV simply identify as "channel 10" and/or "TV 10" durning its CBS O&O days? Ranma9617 08:15, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding the Government Access tv photo to the Public access tv article on Wikipedia.

As for your opinions that Wikipedia would have better articles and less vandalisim if only administrator editors or whatever could edit vs. anyone, I agree, but that's not the point of Wiki. If it were, then Wiki would no longer be unique. Again, I agree with you, and maybe it would be nice to see a separate Wiki site with what you say, but only if "this" one (the one we're using.) was allowed open to anyone, because that's the point of "this" Wiki. Admin coaching, etc.[edit]

Are you ready to get started?

The waiting time over at Admin coaching is long (some people have been waiting in line since July). I'm an admin coach with the project, and for my students I set up a group discussion page so that we could all learn from each other. The scope of this concept has expanded into the Virtual classroom, which is an open forum for the teaching and learning of advanced Wikipedia skills.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, as a student, as a coach, or both. Every week or two a new major topic of discussion or classroom assignment is introduced, usually with a guest writer who presents his or her expertise on the current subject and who remains on hand to answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions, such as sharing your expertise, asking and answering questions, etc.

The current topic of discussion is vandalism, and our guest writer is Budgiekiller.

All discussions are open-ended, so all previous discussion topics and classroom assignments are still there for viewing and further participation. There are also sections for posting miscellaneous topics and questions, requesting coaching assistance, etc.

In addition to inviting those who would like to learn, I routinely invite experts from all over Wikipedia to come and contribute for the benefit of all. The VC is rapidly turning into a clearing house of the best resources, methods, and techniques known for working on Wikipedia.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Here's an announcement box which you can place on your userpage or at the top of your talk page for keeping up to date with classroom assignments.

I hope to see you there. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist    08:16, 12 December 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Checking in[edit]

I have not heard from you in a bit, how is it going? KillerChihuahua?!? 16:12, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize, I've been real busy the past couple weeks (I had surgery on the 29th, which gave me terrible headaches for about two weeks after that), and I've been having to catch up on stuff...I hope to be fully back editing by the start of next week at the earliest, and the end of the month at the very latest. Sorry again....

--CFIF 18:04, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ack, no need to apologize! I was just checking... I am very sorry to hear you've been throuh surgery, and hope all is going well with your recovery. KillerChihuahua?!? 18:07, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for understanding! --CFIF 18:07, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all - we all have lives outside Wikipedia, and R/L comes first. Take care of yourself. KillerChihuahua?!? 18:53, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove content from Wikipedia, as you did to WROC-TV. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. Jerry lavoie 23:26, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That standard warning is a bit heavy-handed. I am sure you unintentionally reverted that change, but it does seem to contain good encyclopedic content. Jerry lavoie 23:27, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was very much intentional...see your talk page Jerry....--CFIF 23:29, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, wow, my sincere apologies. I have to wonder what motivates somebody to do that kind of thing? Although I am sorry for the potential insult to you, I am sure you realize I had good intentions. I was snowballed by a grade A vandal :(
Thanks for your cheerful correspendence. Jerry lavoie 23:39, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. No problem. --CFIF 00:13, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(reduce) Well handled! If you continue in this vein, my job as coach will be absurdly easy - I'll just sit on the sidelines and tell you what a great job you're doing. :-) KillerChihuahua?!? 00:18, 19 January 2007 (UTC) [reply]

BenH alert[edit]

Looks like he's back as 67.77.213.55. --CFIF 23:09, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps a checkuser in this case would be helpful? I've left a message for the user, with helpful advice and a politely-worded message asking the user to not add rumors to Wikipedia articles. Hope this helps. Also, glad to see you back, and sorry to hear (read) about the headaches and surgery. Happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 00:43, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the edits and compare them to Ben's...they are exactly the same as BenH. Not to mention it comes up to Sprint, which other BenH socks have used. [4] --CFIF 00:50, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There are certainly a lot of TV-station related contributions. Most of this user's contributions have not been reverted, though. I don't see anything particularly vandalistic about edits like this, and the edits don't really seem to be a disturbance. Tell me what I'm missing. Firsfron of Ronchester 02:50, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's stubbing everything, adding information that is similar to what BenH added, and is adding unverified information. It really should be in plain sight if you compare the contributions. --CFIF 12:24, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't this the same thing user:Donotsayno was doing? It seems to me there are quite a few IPs/user accounts adding crufty information. Adding TV station cruft isn't really a disturbance, in my book. Irritating, yes, but this can usually be resolved with a friendly talk page message (or something like that). Tagging this IP's talk page with {{sock}} before even trying to communicate with the user seems like jumping the gun. JMO, as always. Firsfron of Ronchester 23:34, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mean to be rude here, but come on now, the editing styles are exactly the same. This guy adds crap to callsign meanings, adds the brandings to website links, and over-stubbs stuff, EXACTLY what BenH did. I'm gonna have to get some outside help if you can't look into this. --CFIF 02:05, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but it just doesn't look particularly like vandalism to me. Moreover, BenH did add speculative call sign information, but so did CoolKatt99999 and several other editors. Most of this user's edits have not been reverted, so I feel uncomfortable using admin actions in this case. A second opinion, on WP:AN/I or something, may help. Sorry I haven't been any help here. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 02:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A Question[edit]

Hello,

Perhaps you can help me. A user by the name of "A Man In Black" has taken the logo galleries off teh WVBT-TV and WVNS-TV pages. These galleries are not large (WVBT has 2 pictures, WVNS 4) and are not in violation of any rule I can find. He put in the edit summary "rm gallery of fair-use images"....if they are fair use, then I see no problem here. I would like some input on what I should do. I have reverted, twice now, his changes...and will use the 3RR rule if necessary cause this feels like vandalism to me. <<Just an opinion there.

If you could offer some advice, I would appericate it.

Thanks....SVRTVDude 05:18, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regrettably, I can't do a thing about it, he's using some very vague fair use criteria to remove them. Sorry. --CFIF 15:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:MyTV9.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Test Templates[edit]

Once again I'm testing templates...

I just wanted to know what do you think of this???

It's the template database for The E.W. Scripps Company using the format for MTV's Jackass...

Let me know what do you think and what do you suggest!!! --WIKISCRIPPS 07 FRI OCT 27 2006 8:30 PM EDT

National Network NavBox Templates[edit]

I'm once again trying out the NavBox Template format -- this time for use to all network stations nationwide on the same template... This is what I mean...

What do you think??? --WIKISCRIPPS 07 TUE JAN 30 2007 8:16 PM EST

Looks nice, but you're forgetting WWSB and a few others...should probably go in large or unranked (maybe with a footnote). --CFIF 02:00, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, C -- thanks all the same, but I'll pass... as a rule, I try to stay as far away from the TV gossip message boards as I can. Until the boards, in generally, start moderating in a TWoP kind of way, they're so not safe territory. ;-) Amnewsboy 17:47, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:5WTVH.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:5WTVH.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 18:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You listed this image for speedy deletion. First of all, this is an image on commons; cannot be speedy deleted by Wikipedia. Secondly, you appear to be mistaken on this "reversed image". The numbers, which are clearly not reversed, list "43", Josh Hancock's number when he played for the Cincinnati Reds. Third, it is part of a larger image, which even more clearly illustrates the fact that this is Josh Hancock. The image Image:Baseball_pitching_motion_2004.jpg, which is the source for the image, plainly displays the full number, "43". Therefore, I am absolutely positive that your grounds for deletion are not well-taken. —Zachary talk 21:13, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No...if you notice...the Reds logo is reversed. Also, the "43" appears to have been photoshopped. The Reds do not have a backwards "C" logo. Sorry. also, if you look on Baseball Almanac, Claussen wore "34" --CFIF 21:40, 3 May 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:WTVTanchors.PNG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:WTVTanchors.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. You may want to consider blanking or requesting deletion for User:CFIF/Name That Storm, as its purpose seems to be similar to the betting pools we used to have - those were deleted in MFD; if not, that page might also be MFDed. --Coredesat 23:35, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:FOX8.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FOX8.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:57, 17 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 20:57, 17 May 2007 (UTC) [reply]

CFIF,

I recently made changes to the Port Manatee entry to provide a better overall picture of the port. By reverting back to the previous listing, you have removed a host of valuable information including the list of commodities coming in and going out of the port.

If you object to something specifically, please let me know, but just erasing everything is I believe uncalled for. Additionally, the information you have listed is out of date.

I hope you understand why I had to revert the reports of his death earlier on. --CFIF 19:05, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If it wasn't from a reliable source, I certainly do. ESPN and the Arizona Republic are now reporting the story on their sites. DarkAudit 20:12, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Previously, the only source was message board chatter. --CFIF 20:15, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. Message board chatter isn't a Reliable source. We need to avoid hoaxes. Until a citation is provided, material like this should be removed. I see no problem, and WP:BLP is pretty clear: unsourced, controversial material gets removed: "Wikipedia articles can affect real people's lives. This gives us an ethical and legal responsibility. Biographical material must be written with the greatest care and attention to verifiability, neutrality and avoiding original research, particularly if it is contentious [...] Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material — whether negative, positive, or just highly questionable — about living persons should be removed immediately and without discussion". Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:33, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged Image:K02NQcapture.PNG as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Orphaned non-free image (Image:WBUW.PNG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:WBUW.PNG. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Wwsblogo2.PNG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wwsblogo2.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:9WFTV.PNG. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:41, 6 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Fair use rationale for Image:5WTVH.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:5WTVH.png.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~ Wikihermit 00:35, 7 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Pushoverpir.png is an unfree image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days (CSD I6).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Pushoverpir.png, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Fair use rationale for Image:Pushoverpir.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Pushoverpir.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 10:26, 19 October 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cliffhangers.PNG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cliffhangers.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:50, 25 October 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:FOX21.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FOX21.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:48, 26 October 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hey CFIF, why did you delete my entry? It was factual! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kenesu96 (talkcontribs) 15:37, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What kind of station is that Japanese station? Why would they hire an American anchor? --CFIF 16:23, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its a channel part of the national network. They hire Americans for English programs sometimes. There are many Americans on TV in Japan, and a former WTXL employee is one now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kenesu96 (talkcontribs) 09:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Fletch.PNG[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Fletch.PNG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 15:45, 10 December 2007 (UTC) [reply]
