If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam); and,
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for businesses. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you.

Hi there. Just so you know, I'm going to be going through your changes on the above article and editing rather heavily - a lot of what you've included leans into the realm of advertising, and will need to be removed to ensure the article is neutral, as per our guidelines. The product line section, for example, is marketing-related, and will need to go; the product range is mentioned further up in the article. If these changes aren't made, it's entirely possible the article could be marked for deletion as blatant advertising, which Wikipedia is not intended to be. Also, please read the note above regarding conflict of interest - from your username, I assume this is someone with Charles Machine Works. Generally, editing an article about something you're closely related with is frowned upon. Tony Fox (arf!) 18:41, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information. I've gone back into the article and tried to remove anything that may see like marketing. I've also added citations as you requested and tried to create as many internal links as I could. I hope I'm responding to you correctly, I haven't every tried to talk to another editor before ;)

Yes, either here or on my talk page will work just fine - I've got your page watchlisted so I'll see any changes here. The adjustments you've been making definitely help the article. I appreciate your understanding of the need to keep it neutral - too often, companies try to post up the corporate promo piece here, which just doesn't work as part of an encyclopedia. I'd suggest that if you can find more third-party sources about the company (and I recommend avoiding trade magazines and papers, and focus on more mainstream media or websites, if you can), that would be a great help in the long run. Cheers. Tony Fox (arf!) 22:44, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm having trouble with the company info box on this page. I'm not sure how to go back and edit the box, once the box is visible the text for it doesn't show up anywhere for editing. Could someone point me in the right direction for info about editing company info boxed AFTER they have been created?

Hey there. If you've been using the 'edit' tabs at the article section breaks, try using the main 'edit' tab at the top of the page - it's possible that your placement of the box was in a place where you can't access it afterwards. The box (both of them) came up when I clicked on 'edit.' If you're still having problems, outline what you'd like to do and I'll see if I can sort it out for you.
