July 2023[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 19:59, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I'm suggesting this new username to make it clear that I'm an individual, salaried Infillion employee with a COI. I understand the "Infillionaire name makes it sound like I'm embodying the company's brand, or something like that. Apologies for any confusion I've created with that username choice.

I also apologize for not being explicit enough about the process by which I updated the Infillion article. I know that COI editors have to use the edit request system, and I've been doing that on the Infillion Talk page. If you go to that page, linked here, you'll see that I put forward edit requests to update the infobox and the Company history' section. The independent editor User:Johannes Maximilian approved both those requests and told me to implement the edits myself. But I erred in not including a sufficiently descriptive edit summary for the Company history edit. On the infobox edit, I put "Updating infobox per talk page discussion" as an edit summary. On theCompany history one, I only indicated the section I was improving. I realize I should have put my disclosure and explained I'd been told by an editor to make the change.

I'm guessing that User:Orangemike was browsing the Infillion article's edit history and thought I was editing the page myself, without any input from independent editors. I completely understand why he might have thought this. Those Company history changes, to anyone not also checking the Talk page, look like an undisclosed COI edit.

If I'm unblocked, I will operate under the new username I suggested above. I will also continue to use the edit request system, and allow independent editors to evaluate the quality of my suggested changes to the Infillion article, and if I am told by a reviewer to make an edit again in future I'll be sure to disclose my conflict and point to the Talk discussion.

Again, apologies for any confusion I've caused. I'm here to offer further clarity as needed. Thanks! Infillionaire (talk) 16:59, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I have renamed the account; as the user has already declared they are a paid editor, and has committed to abiding by WP:COI and proposing edits, I'm going to be bold and remove the block. • Username changed in my global re-namer capacity. Nosebagbear (talk) 19:20, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pinging blocking admin @Orangemike: - their most recent edits to Infillion were indeed signed off, afaict. As such, even if they could be viewed as promotional, I wouldn't have thought it was a hardblock without warning scale. However, don't know if the block was on a broader basis (the username issue is of course correct, so this query is on the hardblock aspect). Nosebagbear (talk) 19:18, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a little concerned with the new name: is CM an abbreviation for human initials, or is it a role account? --Orange Mike | Talk 03:02, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, User:Orangemike! I appreciate your concern here. This is an account for an individual. My first and last initials are CM. If Infillion were to have somebody else propose edits to the company page, we would register that person with their own account, under a distinct username. "GL with Infillion" or something like that. Hope that clarifies matters. CM with Infillion (talk) 13:59, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
User:Orangemike: Just checking to make sure that you've seen my reply above. If you need any further information from me, please don't hesitate to ask! CM with Infillion (talk) 22:17, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
