Help me![edit]

Hi. I have a question about this article on Kenneth Charles Duncan. The information in the introduction and last two paragraphs is about Kenneth Cavendish Duncan who does not have a link. I wondered if I should create a new article on Kenneth Cavendish Duncan before editing the other article. Many thanks. Cala Munda (talk) 08:54, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Are you aware we have meetups in the Perth/WA group? - we are always interested in meeting with editors who might not have otherwise caught up with us... who live and edit in Perth. cheers JarrahTree 00:47, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

joe article[edit]

when creating bio articles it is important (even if the person is dead), to have the projects on the talk page, and the categories of the article to have at least a category in place ... hope you dont mind the prompts. It is well worth looking at other articles about similar people to see what else happens in them (ie editing history) - cheers JarrahTree 01:34, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

looking for an example - try checking the details of the Doris_Pilkington_Garimara - could be of help in understanding some of the requirements of similar articles. JarrahTree 01:51, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I am still new to this this and the Joe article had been in my sandbox for a while and I didn't know what to do with it. Should I return it to my user page. Cala Munda (talk) 01:55, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For a new article creator you are doing very very well, you have understanding of markup, and you have all the elements of a good article there. I have added a few items, and there is nothing wrong with it at all, dont be self deprecating or shy!

The least important but worth knowing about item is the external links inside text of an article, we prefer, via WP:MOS to have it as a ref rather than in the text.

Well worth looking at other article on similar topics and reverse engineer - bit like there is nothing sacred in being able to pull apart articles in edit mode, to see what is what, and what to imitate/understand from. Otherwise, where there are items to do with wa, we have a group of wa editors with a range of skills and experiences whom you can call on... Well worth meeting them on wiki - no big deal as to whether in real life or not. The western australian editors can be found in the project talk page, usually. JarrahTree 02:28, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I converted the external links to references. I will also review the introduction using Doris_Pilkington_Garimara as a model. Thank you. Cala Munda (talk) 03:38, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Joe Nangan ('Butcher' Joe Nangan), the article has been orphaned although only new. This article is now linked to from at least three other articles including Beagle Bay Community, riji and Nyigina language.Cala Munda (talk) 01:06, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good JarrahTree 01:09, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Can I shorten title to Butcher Joe Nangan?Cala Munda (talk) 01:12, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

try #REDIRECT for that, good experience how to do variant titles - so type butcher joe nangan in your search, it will come up as it doesnt exist would you like to start art - then when you click on, in the edit space #REDIRECT to the full title in the square brackets, think of a few other possible variants, and create them as well... rather than moving article - just a suggestion JarrahTree 01:38, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I did not get this message in time. I just move the page to Butcher Joe Nangan. Cala Munda (talk) 01:41, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

no problems with that - as long as the reason for the name butcher is clear in the lead para - otherwise it could be misinterpeted - ... JarrahTree 03:11, 1 August 2016 (UTC) I will also attempt an Infobox to clarify the biographical information. I have just copied a person template and will experiment.Cala Munda (talk) 03:30, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

even better 'reverse engineer' what you see for 'doris pilkington' which redirects to full name JarrahTree 01:40, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

fyi - the column on the left of the screen - tools - what links here - is the one to check JarrahTree

never[edit]

get intimidated by https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Joe_Nangan_(%27Butcher%27_Joe_Nangan)&action=history orphan tags, the point is that there are obvious links that can be made. If you cannot find them easy, friendly helpful australian eds are usually able to help with links - templating eds love to leave tags, but rarely help out, as they do not even know the subject in the first place, in most cases JarrahTree 07:53, 30 July 2016 (UTC) I have included a link under riji - also added a citation. It was not until I was added the title link, I realised it is quite long. Should the title of the article be shortened to Butcher Joe Nangan as this is the name is is known by as an artist? I presume an editor needs to to this?Cala Munda (talk) 03:56, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

horrible horrible not a wp article - Australian_Institute_of_Architects classic example of not what wp is about or article - it is an abomination. Need to get KC Duncan linked in so as to get reason for my removing orphan at duncan. History section best.JarrahTree 00:53, 31 July 2016 (UTC) He was elected national president in 1959 so I have listed him there. Thanks. Cala Munda (talk) 01:29, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
