Is this...[edit]

...who I think it is? :-) Khoikhoi 01:35, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Safranbolu is a UNESCO World Heritage and you guys are putting the picture of a house in Macedonia as if we don't have any left in Turkey so that we need to show an example from a foreign country. (The photos in Safranbolu's Wiki page are awful by the way)

Pathetic representation of Turkey... :)

CalicoJackRackham 01:48, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea what you are talking about, but I was just wondering if you were the same person as another user. Khoikhoi 01:53, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Navy[edit]

Good job. Please, do not forget adding too many images may reduce the quality of the articles. E104421 13:33, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Drawing_of_ancient_Pergamon.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Drawing_of_ancient_Pergamon.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

ISTANBUL IS VANDALIZED AGAIN... CalicoJackRackham 16:32, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean? Khoikhoi 05:00, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't tell it to you :)

Someone emptied Istanbul and put ridiculous things, but it was later corrected.

CalicoJackRackham 23:47, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lol, I see. :-) Khoikhoi 23:50, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trabzon[edit]

Hi! I liked your additions the Trabzon article, but you have to remember that the article is about the city, not Trabzon Province. Perhaps you could add some of the images there? Also, see Hagia Sophia, Trabzon and Sumela Monastery. Cheers, Khoikhoi 00:26, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was like a dumpster before I edited it. CalicoJackRackham 00:27, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean? Khoikhoi 00:28, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Full of trash, trash and more useless, retarded, insignificant, absurd trash. CalicoJackRackham 00:29, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I beg to differ. Now I fear that users might get confused about the difference between Trabzon city and Trabzon province. Maybe you could simply move some of the iamges? Khoikhoi 00:30, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As if the previous photos contributed anything important to users seeking information about Trabzon. CalicoJackRackham 00:31, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I never said I wanted the previous photos back, I'm just saying—why did you add the photos of Sümela and Ayasofya to Trabzon, and not Trabzon Province? Khoikhoi 00:34, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because nobody gives a damn about Trabzon province. Not even the geekiest pencilneck geek. CalicoJackRackham 00:36, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What did I do to get that response? Khoikhoi 00:45, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just erase everything I added CalicoJackRackham 01:08, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd rather not, because you're a good contributor. Khoikhoi 01:10, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did it for you CalicoJackRackham 01:12, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For the record...[edit]

I absolutely loved your work on the Princes' Islands articles—keep up the good work! :-) Khoikhoi 07:57, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks pal :)

It was a "must" because the islands are the most virgin parts of Istanbul, with the best-preserved Ottoman era houses and architecture. CalicoJackRackham 08:07, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the images definately show that. The Kızıl Adalar are somewhere that I plan to go to someday. BTW, we appear to be missing some islands, as Baristarim pointed out on the talk page. There's Kaşık Adası, but what else? Khoikhoi 08:19, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have images of Kaşık Adası which I'll also add upon finding some information (as well as enhancing the info on Sivriada) but I'll have to do some research about the others. There's also "Tavşan Adası" if I'm not wrong, which is a small uninhabited islet. CalicoJackRackham 17:36, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. So I guess there are 3 more articles to be created: Sivriada, Kaşık Adası, and Tavşan Adası. Khoikhoi 23:42, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Büyükada 5.36 km²,
  • Heybeliada 2.4 km²,
  • Burgazada 1.5 km²,
  • Kınalıada 1.3 km²,
  • Sedef Adası 0.1 km²,
  • Yassıada 0.05km² ,
  • Sivriada 0.05 km²,
  • Kaşık Adası 0.006 km²,
  • Tavşan Adası 0.004 km²

CalicoJackRackham 00:26, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any images of İmralı? I know it's not exactly the top tourist desination, but it's worth a shot. ;-) Khoikhoi 00:30, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Imrali is not a part of the Princes' Islands, but is way south and a part of Bursa province. Princes' Islands are a part of Istanbul province. CalicoJackRackham 00:34, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I wasn't aware. Cheers, Khoikhoi 00:37, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a distant view of İmralı Adası in Bursa province (you can't get very close for obvious reasons):

When I click on the image, it says "Fotoğrafların büyük halini görebilmeniz için kayıtlı üye olmanız gerekiyor üyelik ücretsizdir". However, I have seen Yol before (I think part of the movie is filmed there). Khoikhoi 00:42, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It says you need to be a registered member to the forum. You didn't miss anything special, actually. The image is a bit dusky. Anyway, I will upload it if you want. CalicoJackRackham 00:47, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but that's ok. I'll try to find better pictures of the island eventually. Khoikhoi 00:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Turkish Army 18.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Turkish Army 18.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 16:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wowturkey.com images[edit]

One way to use copyrighted photographs from wowturkey.com is by:

  1. Getting in touch directly with the photographer (whose identity is shown each time with the photograph on www.wowturkey.com)
  2. Clearly indicating that it is for use on wikipedia and by explaining what Creative Commons licence consists of, as well as what the different licences are. (It would also be helpful to indicate him the article for which the photograph will be initially used.)
  3. Requesting and obtaining his permission (in English or Turkish).
  4. INDICATING CLEARLY WHILE UPLOADING THAT THE SOURCE IS WWW.WOWTURKEY.COM.
  5. Indicating clearly while uploading that the photographer has given his permission (copy-pasted text from the photographer's message to the images talk page).
  6. A distinct permission is required each time (for each photograph).

Turkey photos[edit]

The two photos you've removed from Turkey's gallery have copyright tags indicating that they are released for use; if you're deciding now that they can't be used, you'll need to change the copyright tags. If they not released for general use, the images should be deleted from Wikipedia. Thanks, OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:27, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder[edit]

It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Attacking another user back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors and leads to general bad feeling. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks! I did my PhD on Architecture and Art History, and most of my contribution is on these two areas.

However, if people start to use my work to support baseless claims of "genocides", in a time when Turkey was invaded by the Greeks in the Aegean Region, Italians in the Mediterranean Region, French in the Southeast and Cilicia, British in the Marmara Region and Turkish Straits, Armenians in the Northeast, then yes, I will intervene and not let my images and information used for such propaganda.

Some people still can't stomach the Treaty of Lausanne, and wish the Treaty of Sevres was in place. Turkey is an immensely beautiful country, so this is quite natural.

I'm an amateur expert on ancient Greek history and civilization, I know Armenian and Syriac architecture very well.

But if those people start to twist my work and photos for their baseless propaganda, I'll simply delete them, one by one.

CalicoJackRackham 21:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry that you feel that way, but let me explain some things to you first:
  • WP:NPOV dictates that all positions be presented, this would include both the Assyrian and Turkish POVs.
  • The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. Even if you disagree with the idea that there was a genocide, the Assyrian Genocide article has references that support the claim. However, you are more than welcome to add sources that contradict this in the Mardin article if you want. You can say something like, "other sources dispute this, and claim that...". This would still be in-line with Wikipedia policy.
I can unprotect the Mardin article for you, if you promise not to edit war and try to come to a compromise with User:Chaldean. I don't think he intended to remove all your images.
Kolay gelsin, Khoikhoi 21:51, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but I'm not interested in Mardin anymore. Tell Chaldean to feel free about deleting the buildings (churches and madrasas) which I added to Mardin's information, as well as historic information regarding the Artukid and Akkoyunlu period. He can fill the Mardin article with all sorts of genocide claims he wants, from the Assyrian Genocide to the Babylonian and Hittite Genocides. And tell him to stay away from the photos I uploaded on that article and other articles.

Wikipedia makes you feel like a stranger to your own country. No Turkish city seems Turkish, but simply Greek, Armenian, Syriac, Kurdish, just waiting for the day that the hordes of nomadic barbarians will be repulsed back to the steppes of Central Asia, as promised in the dream of the Ecumenical Patriarch in the late 15th century.

From now on my contributions will be mostly regarding "ancient cities and sites" and "Turkish seamen"; i.e. topics which can't be vandalized by those who had their butts kicked by the Turks in the past, but who still don't give up the dream that one day they'll create a "Greater" state of their own from the "presently-Turkish" territories which will soon be divided among their rightful owners.

P.S.: Just wait till Trabzon gets vandalized with "Pontian Genocide" all over the article. Then I'll also delete the photos I added to Trabzon, letting the Greeks to have enough space to add their ridiculous photos of a baseless and stereotypical "bold Pontian man with roundy head and big arched nose", folkloric clothes and other cultural aspects of the region in order to prove that Black Sea Turks are all originally Pontic Greeks; with the hope that this "enlightenment" about their true identity might wake them up and encourage them against the oppressive Turks (Borgs) who have assimilated them in the past centuries. Cooperation board launched[edit]

A new (and overdue) Greek and Turkish cooperation and notification board has been launched here. Stop by, have a look and sound off! Cheers! Baristarim 07:19, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd rather spend my time to make Turkish cities look more beautiful. The Greeks and Armenians are hopeless. They are practically "programmed" and "brainwashed" to hate the Turks starting from elementary school. CalicoJackRackham 07:48, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't be so pessimistic!! :)) I also spend a lot of time taking care of Turkish articles, however it is also important that there be certain channels for dialogue, instead of scattered looping arguments. There has been a proposal for a naming convention for Turkish/Greek nameplaces (inclusion/exclusion of Turkish/Greek names in the intro). If we can finalize it, it would put a stop to many edit-wars and give people more time to concentrate on working on what they like. That's all. Welcome to Wikipedia by the way!! I will also try overhaul WP Turkey in a couple of days, any suggestions? Baristarim 08:34, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are doing an excellent work and I can't think of any suggestions for the moment. I will try to enhance the famous sites of antiquity in Turkey (such as Gordion, the capital of Phrygia) and it would be good if we can put their images on the image gallery. Safranbolu (a UNESCO World Heritage site) also needs improvement and more spotlight. My friends went to Mt. Nemrut and I'll upload some nice images. Regards. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Kilic class.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kilic class.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 17:17, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the notice. I had later uploaded other images of the Kılıç class and decided not to use this one. You may delete it (as well as other images which I uploaded and are not used anymore in articles). Regards. CalicoJackRackham 06:11, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Luwian seal image[edit]

Please note that I've re-tagged Image:The Luvi Seal found by Professor Manfred Korfmann in Troy.jpg uploaded by you. It is neither attributed to a reliable source (compare Image:Troy VIIb hieroglyphic seal reverse.png which is), nor is it an unoriginal reproduction that would fall under {{PD-art}}. Please be more accurate with image tags and references. dab () 09:07, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images and usage[edit]

I noticed on the Turkey page that you tried to tell someone not to use your image "without permission", yet the image(s) in question you entered in with a non-restricted use license. Please realize that once you do this, the image is released to the public domain - thus, it can and will be used without your 'permission'. If you don't wish to have your images used, then use a more appropriate license for them. Thank you. Rarelibra 18:47, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If images belonging to my web site are used for political propaganda rather than the promotion of architecture/cities, I will delete their copyright tags and not allow them to be used. CalicoJackRackham 18:55, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use image use[edit]

Re: your reinsertion of fair use images in this and this edit. Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9, which is policy here, prevents the use of fair use tagged images on templates such as {{Turkish Armed Forces}}. This means the images Image:Turkish Gendarmerie.jpg, Image:Turkish Armed Forces.gif, Image:Turkish Air Forces.gif, Image:TurkishNavySeal.gif and Image:Turkish Coast Guard.gif may not be used on that template. Please do not re-insert these images, or any other fair use images, onto that or any other template. I understand that you may not have been aware of the policy, but now that you are aware further violation of this policy must be treated as vandalism. If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. --Durin 20:03, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Then why do you allow Turkish Army? CalicoJackRackham 20:05, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Because it previously was not tagged as a fair use image. I reviewed that image and found that the release under GFDL was probably improper and have retagged that image, and removed it from the template in question. --Durin 20:07, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please use English for your edit summaries[edit]

Hello. Wikipedia is a encyclopedia in multiple languages, this being the English version. Please do not add content in other languages here unless it directly relates to the article; that is, the information cannot be explained in English alone. You can use interlanguage links to find the same article in a language you are more familiar with, or find the Wikipedia in that language on the master list. Thank you. Image:ASuW.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ASuW.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - crz crztalk 20:10, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baristarim on turkey[edit]

He is trying to make turkey look like a country of illiterates and worst of all attribute this to Kurds. I have tried to revert his very poor additions, but he is very stubborn about it. Help save the image of Turkey, turks and kurds and stop this wacko

Watch for civility. That wacko spent tens of hours cleaning up that article and finding sources. I found 60 out of 70 sources cited in the article. Literacy figures are mentioned in every single country article, and they will stay. All that information is sourced. Do not touch them. Baristarim 23:50, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you telling this to me dude? :)

Obviously you have mistaken me with someone else.

I only changed the dark, depressing, uninviting, melancholic and cliché Maiden's Tower photo (the kind of "Dark Istanbul", "Dark Istanbul Sunset", etc photo that you can see throughout the net)

Let's start showing the green, blue, and "sunshine happy" face of Istanbul, not the cliché depressing dark face which is stereotypically available everywhere.

Hey s'up. Just wanted to let you know of some things caught my eye. The captions generally have to be explanatory per policy, otherwise they can confuse the uninformed reader. We might know that the EU-TR looks like that, however some readers (in fact many Americans for example) might get confused. As for the foreign relations section, wait a little bit before adding more info. I will rewrite that section from scratch since it is not very good; it includes much information that doesn't belong in there and rather in relevant articles, and fails to mention many key aspects of TR foreign relations. A country article should be very concise and only give an overview. There is too much and completely unneccessary mentions of Greeks dumping illegal immigrants etc. That should only be in the Greco-Turkish relations. That was just an example. I have been rewriting in light of Canada, one of the best country articles there is. I just wanted to let you know that so you don't have to worry so much about the foreign relations section :)) Cheers and happy editing! Baristarim 00:08, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In any case, the only problem is those blue links, they can disturb the eye. If it's no problem for you I will dewikify them. I hope that you do not think I am being pushy, I just want that article to be perfect for FA (well close to perfect in any case :)) Thank you for your contributions though! Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kilic_class_fast_attack_missile_corvette.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:17, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Kılıç_missile_corvette.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kılıç_missile_corvette.jpg.
