Hi -if you are in the middle of process of changing reference pls igore this. Otherwise pls check that new format for references is doing what you want. Reference section now has visible "http://......" SmithBlue 02:35, 11 January 2007 (UTC) Probably the least important edit you'll ever discuss - at least I hope so - though maybe there are more pedantic editors out there than me - I hope not - The Hicks affadavit is a legal document - the source gives the original spelling as "a eight hour". RE: USMC film list[edit]

You have commented on the AFD discussion for List of films featuring United States Marines, the discussion can be viewed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of films featuring United States Marines.

Following support for my suggestion, I have done a userspace rewrite of the article at User:Saberwyn/Films featuring the United States Marine Corps, with the rewritten article in the top half and the current article with annotations as to their inclusion or non-inclusion in the rewritten list.

I would like to request that you review the rewritten article, and if you think it is appropriate, amend your stance at the AFD discussion. -- saberwyn 11:56, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Cruft" in deletion arguments[edit]

Hello Canley, I just want to thank you for your statement on the use of the word "cruft" at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Special effects of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. I experience a lot of this as a patroller of Harry Potter-related articles, and I cannot tell you how often I have to deal with this. There are times when it's appropriate for something like an all-caps "I love [actor/actress]!!!!"-type page, but I wanted to let you know, I appreciate what you've said. footrot flats[edit]

Not a problem about removing the cinemaofaustralia template from the new zealand film. I'm dong a bit of monkey work from a slab of film lists from the internet movie database and there are a few discrepancies. I think there's a few New Zealand films claimed to be Australian and visa/versa which isn't correct. Thanks for the quick revert I need to be on my toes from now on to make sure I don't mess up other film articles :) Peter 02:10, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fifth Melbourne meetup[edit]

The fifth meetup of Melbourne Wikipedians is being planned as a breakfast meeting in the city with Jimbo Wales (at a venue to be arranged) on Friday, 27 April 2007.

Jimbo has proposed breakfast as the one real window of opportunity during his tightly scheduled stay in Melbourne. Tbe precise time has to be sorted out with Jimbo, but the arrangements for the equivalent Adelaide meetup a few days before may give a good idea.

Feel free to edit the relevant page in any way that might be helpful. I feel like a bit of an interloper, not having attended previous meetups. If there's anything you can do to help, I'll be grateful. Please think about whether you'll be able to make it, assuming the arrangements are similar to those Adelaide is adopting (i.e. a block of time with people being fairly free to arrive when it suits them). Some indication on the page of your possible participation would be really helpful. Metamagician3000 06:28, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, seeing you have been involved in previous Afd debates on the subject I invite you to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! StephP 20:40, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Page for Deletion[edit]

Sue Boyce[edit]

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Sue Boyce, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Klytos 17:22, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed it:

Members of state , provincial, and nation legislatures are always considered notable at wikipedia. They are hardly "local officials". I am not sure I myself necessarily agree personally with this with respect to state or provincial members, but the consensus on this is very clear. They are occasionally nominated at AfD, and the nominations are quickly closed with a keep. Before going further along this line, please check the results of previous AfDs to determine if it will be worth your while. If you want a policy change, try the Village Pump. Japan-Qatar[edit]

Would you be able to give me a brief description of the goals and the handball incident, for my Wikinews article? Foxtel's being crap at the moment, namely the set-top box, and I missed the game (I'll watch the replay tonight, if I can fix the box, but I'd like to finish this article before midnight). Sorry I'm not much help, I only caught the last 15 minutes or so, just after Takahara's goal I believe, so I missed that and the handball incident. All I can tell you is that Sebastian's goal in the 88th minute was a free kick just outside the penalty box. --Canley 12:45, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Graphics Lab Announcement[edit]

Attention All Wikigraphists![edit]

As you may or may have not noticed, the Graphics Lab pages have gone under a massive cleanup by User:DTR, User:Rugby471 and various others (sorry if I missed you out). Some of the things that have happened are.

  • All pages in the Graphics Lab have had, where sensible, templates, substituting elements. For example, the main Lab page was a large chunk of around 100 lines of pure code. It was not very easy to edit the main page, so the various sections of it (eg links, welcome) have been separated. Therefore the main page is now only around 20 lines of user friendly text. If you wish to edit the main page, you must look on the main page for the correct template to edit. (Fore example if I wanted to edit the links section, I would go to Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/links and edit the text there). This has been done to all of the pages, in an attempt to make them more user-friendly.

  • As you were notified of early, the Wikigraphist Abilities page has been set up and has been beginning to get populated. If you haven't already setup your own entry, you are advised to go and do so now.

  • Due to a comment from User:DTR. A template for Graphics Lab announcements has been created. It is at Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/announcement. If you ever need to issue a message to Wikigraphists, please use this template in the form

{{Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/announcement|message ~~~~}}

Where message is the announcement you wish to issue.

  • On the Images to Improve Page, an issue was noticed where that when requests were completed, people were adding {{Did}} but forgetting to add <!--werdnabot-archive--&gt so that the request would be archived. Therefore a template has been created (yes another one!) to help with this. When a user creates a new request instead of putting the usual code, they shall put

{{Request Title|title=Lorem Ipsum|done=false}}. Now when a request is completed, all you will have to do is change done to true

done=true

and the template will add the {{did}} template and also <!--werdnabot-archive--> to the title, so it will get archived.

As always, if you experience any issues with the new changes, or are just a bit confused, please don't hesitate to contact me or DTR on our talk pages.

Fair use rationale for Image:Heaven can wait.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Heaven can wait.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eachwiped (talk) 02:32, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

G'day Canley. I was just wandering around some user pages and happened across your contributions. You seem like a solid and trustworthy guy, who could do with access to the sysop tools... What do you say? Let me know ;) Anthøny 20:24, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some questions before we get deep into the RfA writing, if you don't mind:
  1. Have you ever operated under another account (don't answer this if you switched for privacy reasons, obviously; I was thinking along the lines of being renamed);
  2. What do you see as your biggest faults, and where could you work on?
  3. Would you mind getting involved in Deletion Discussions? Perhaps AfD and TfD? Furthermore, would you mind bumping up your vandalism reverts? This is just during the RfA ;)
  4. Do you use IRC?
Much thanks! Anthøny 18:25, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
