Please don’t bite me, I’m a newbie!

I’m a university student in a Wikipedia Education class, and I’m currently learning how to contribute to Wikipedia.
I am approaching my subject in good faith.

Vassal state[edit]

The material you added to Vassal state was good. If you look at how I've copy-edited it, the changes are Wikipedia 'tricks' that you wouldn't be expected to know. The most important of these is the WP:named reference facility, which means that you only have to enter the full citation once, give it a name, and then you can use the name only to cite it multiple times. Each statement gets cited but they all use the same citation number. I cheated a bit by making a single citation of pages 49 and 50, which is ok because they are closely consecutive. If you wanted to cite a variety of pages from the same book, that can be done too but I won't bother to go into it unless you need to know. Ditto the other copy-edits I made.

A good rule of thumb on Wikipedia is that anybody can make the text look pretty (as I did), the hard bit is finding new citations and writing them up (as you did). So...

Hi, so sorry for such a late response. I just wanted to say thank you for helping me in the right direction with the referencing tricks. I've had some time to experiment with it, and understand now how to use it. I really appreciate the help - thanks again! - Cardboard consumer (talk) 06:46, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Cerebellum: Hi! Just wanted to say thank you for the compliment (and the barnstar). I was anxious as it was my first major addition to an article, but I feel encouraged, and more confident in trying to work on and improve the vassal state page. Thanks again! - Cardboard consumer (talk) 06:55, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Cardboard consumer: My first contribution back in 2007 was terrible, you're off to a better start than me!! --Cerebellum (talk) 10:36, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
