Recent changes

  • The wikis that have Growth features deployed have been part of A/B testing since deployment, in which some newcomers did not receive the new features. Now, all of the newcomers on 21 of the smallest of those wikis will be receiving the features. [1]

  • There is no new MediaWiki version this week.

Future changes

  • Advanced item In 2017, the provided jQuery library was upgraded from version 1 to 3, with a compatibility layer. The migration will soon finish, to make the site load faster for everyone. If you maintain a gadget or user script, check if you have any JQMIGRATE errors and fix them, or they will break. [2][3]
  • Last year, the Portuguese Wikipedia community embarked on an experiment to make log-in compulsory for editing.  The impact report of this trial is ready. Moving forward, the Anti-Harassment Tools team is looking for projects that are willing to experiment with restricting IP editing on their wiki for a short-term experiment. Learn more.

If you want to add back the awards info, you need to provide independent, reliable source such as from the newspapers as you tube and Icons Feed are considered not reliable sources. If you find source from the major newspaper (any languages are allowed) to support your claim, then pls use the horizontal format of Template:Cite web to provide inline citation. Muslim Salikhov / revision / unsourced sections

Hello Cassiopeia. I don't speak English well enough. So sorry for the incorrect patterns. After your revision, two sections have been deleted in the article Muslim Salikhov as "unsourced sections". Why????? He is an internationally renowned wushu fighter. The sections described his battles in this sport for 12 years! Wikipedia has hundreds of pages about combat athletes with similar sections. And in this article, the sections have been around for several years. I personally spent hours on Chinese news sites and in the archives of the International Wushu Federation to replenish these sections! What is the problem? Wanlop (talk) 23:54, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

The info you added needs to be sourced for [[WP:V|verfication) (from newspaper or other combat news media) and sources can be in any languages), and the editor who changed/added the info need to provide the sources - see WP:PROVEIT. Posting removed - reason stated it lacked citation

I included all available references for an out of print 1979 vinyl record release.

"Prisoner" by "Aliens" on the Album "Southend Rock" (Sonet SNTF 806 vinyl released in 1979) mistakenly credited as "The Aliens" on disc and sleeve. "Prisoner: Julian Rose & Vincent F. Evans (socan). Aliens: Vincent F. Evans (voice & electric guitar) Nick Straughier (electric bass & voice) Mark Harris (electric guitar) Dave Dyke (drums). Southend Rock was a multi-artist compilation album, produced by Peter Eden (Donovan) as a benefit project for the Billericay Burns Unit. Aliens were formed in Montreal in 1977, when Evans met freshly expatriated Rose, who was ripe from London's punk scene. Prisoner was recorded in 1978 at Spectrum Studios when Evans relocated to his hometown of Southend on Sea (Essex, England). A third and final incarnation of Aliens was formed when Evans later relocated to Edmonton (Alberta, Canada). Prisoner (originally intended to be featured on the never completed Aliens album "Xenophobia") was the only track ever publically released.

Cjjjkscratch Good day. The content in the wikipedia articles are cited by sources for verification, so readers can read the sources to verify the info supported and the detail of the topics. Wikipedia itself is the the source - thus to cite Wikipedia as the sources means WP:CIRCULAR which is one of the many Wikipedia guidelines. The body text in an article is about the subject and not for editors to ask questions or express they view point. If you need help on editing, pls go to WP:TH. I dont think, at the current state, the article meets the notability requirement needed to be a stand alone article. Pls do not add back the info wihtout providing the sources for verification.   • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 September. It will be on all wikis from 16 September (calendar).
  • Starting this week, Wikipedia in Italian will receive weekly software updates on Wednesdays. It used to receive the updates on Thursdays. Due to this change, bugs will be noticed and fixed sooner. [6]
  • You can add language links in the sidebar in the new Vector skin again. You do this by connecting the page to a Wikidata item. The new Vector skin has moved the language links but the new language selector cannot add language links yet. [7]
  • The syntax highlight tool marks up code with different colours. It now can highlight 23 new code languages. Additionally, golang can now be used as an alias for the Go programming language, and a special output mode has been added to show a program's output. [8][9]

Regarding Power (Kansas album)

I edited the article Power (Kansas album). It said it the first album to not include original members Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope. You made a mistake in re-editing it. Editors may also use material from reliable non-academic sources, particularly if it appears in respected mainstream publications. Other reliable sources include:

I found the page and these are quotes that are taken directly from it.

Interviews generally count as primary sources, but commentary added to interviews by a publication can sometimes count as secondary-source material. Interviews may be published in reliable publications, but that does not make primary source material contained in them acceptable to cite claims for which Wikipedia requires secondary sources.

Generally speaking, it is okay to sparingly use interviews to source some facts, so long as the article is also using a good mixture of other types of reliable sources — for instance, if an interview happens to be the clearest available source for where a person who is already properly established as notable was born, or for where they attended university, or for the fact that they identify as LGBTQ, then the interview can be used to source a statement of that fact. However, the existence of interviews should not generally be taken as the crux of an argument that the person has passed WP:GNG per se: if the person is not the subject of sufficient third-party analysis of their significance, then the existence of one or more interview pieces does not clinch them as notable all by itself.

Tsims23 I believe I have explained to you on one of our conversation. I will state here again. Notability requires significant sources talk about the subject directly and in dept and not mainly passing mentioned where by the sources need to be independent and reliable. Interviews articles are considered primary and not independent sources for the info provide from the sources are from the subject(s) themselves. Most MMA training centers / gym do not have enough independent reliable sources to where by the sources talk about the gym/center "directly and in depth" but mostly talk about the notable fighters who train in the gym/center. You need to search for more independent sources so that they subject could meet the notability guidelines, if not then you need to wait until such time. Stay safe and best. They are not passing mentions in the articles tho at least a couple articles the gym has talked about consistently and in depth some of them know but the main ones yes and there's no rule about interview format... Tsims23 Good day. Interview means the info is taken from the subject and that means the sources is not independent. Examples of non independent sources same as letter, emails, any sources that is related to the subject, Company's website, Press releases. Subject's social network, Autobiography, Statements by politicians and etc. If you can provide me 5 independent, reliable sources that the sources talk about the subject in length and in dept, then I will review it and if all the sources fit the requirements as stated then it would meet the notability requirement of WP:NCORP or WP:GNG. Tsims23 The draft will stay in the Wikimedia draft section for 6 months. If you can find more sources as indicated then add them in. If you dont think you would be able to find them then you can request for deletion by adding {{Db-g7}}. However, before doing so, do make a copy and paste it in notepad (txt format), so in case you would find the sources in next few years you dont need to rewrite them again. Yes we are in lock down for almost 4 months now and would still be in the same position at least till Nov. My summer is your winter, so your time to embrace the beautiful yet unforgiving winter. Hello Cassiopeia,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Stop changing edits

You have changed multiple factually correct edits on arman tsarukyan claiming they are unsourced when in all actuality you are the unsourced one. Ryan-James.M14 See below sources. We dont put heritage/blood line/ethnicity in the lead section but nationality - comment and links have been given many time in the edit summary in the article history page. Heritage/blood line/ethnicity can be place in the body text as long as it is sourced in regardless he raised the particular flag or said he represent certain country. If the subject has more than one citizenships then we can put that in the lead and infobox section as long it is supported by source.

Thinking of creating two MMA gym articles

Hi. I'm thinking of creating two MMA gym articles. However I'm not sure if they are considered notable enough for me to put in time and effort writing them.

MMA Lab:

The gym of Benson Henderson in Arizona. Its also where Jared Cannonier and Sean O'Malley train. Might have some potential to generate something big again in the future.

Enbo Fight Club:

A gym in China aimed to help orphans and poor children near Tibet. It seems to have some media coverage from vice in a youtube clip and from BBC here. It has generated two ranked UFC fighters, Su Mudaerji and Song Yadong. Rong Zhu who has recently won his fight also was from there. So far it seems to be the only gym in China that has consistency in generating UFC level talent despite not having that much resources to work with. However I think only gyms that generate at least one UFC champion should be worth writing about. So I'm not too sure if this is worth my time.

Recent changes

  • Growth features are now deployed to almost all Wikipedias. For the majority of small Wikipedias, the features are only available for experienced users, to test the features and configure them. Features will be available for newcomers starting on 20 September 2021.
  • MediaWiki had a feature that would highlight local links to short articles in a different style. Each user could pick the size at which "stubs" would be highlighted. This feature was very bad for performance, and following a consultation, has been removed. [11]
  • A technical change was made to the MonoBook skin to allow for easier maintenance and upkeep. This has resulted in some minor changes to HTML that make MonoBook's HTML consistent with other skins. Efforts have been made to minimize the impact on editors, but please ping Jon (WMF) on wiki or in phabricator if any problems are reported.

  • There was a problem with search last week. Many search requests did not work for 2 hours because of an accidental restart of the search servers. [12]

Changes later this week

  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 September. It will be on all wikis from 23 September (calendar).
  • Advanced item The meta=proofreadpage API has changed. The piprop parameter has been renamed to prpiprop. API users should update their code to avoid unrecognized parameter warnings. Pywikibot users should upgrade to 6.6.0. [13]

Future changes

  • The Reply tool will be deployed to the remaining wikis in the coming weeks. It is currently part of "Discussion tools" in Beta features at most wikis. You will be able to turn it off in Editing Preferences. [14]
  • Advanced item The previously announced change to how you obtain tokens from the API has been delayed to September 21 because of an incompatibility with Pywikibot. Bot operators using Pywikibot can follow T291202 for progress on a fix, and should plan to upgrade to 6.6.1 when it is released.

Many participants dropped out of the program because the didnt anticipate the amount of time and effort it needed even they have been informed prior. There is not time frame to complete program and every participant works on their own pace. Most participants completed the program in 10 weeks. 4SnavaA I noticed that you have completed the TWA and also notice you have done some counter vandalsim work. In the program, there will be some reading material (guidelines) to be provided and you need to read all the of them carefully. Most new editors such as yourself find the program very difficult and almost all would abandon the program as editors need to familiar with many things besides just the guidelines and most of all, it takes a lot of time to find the edits which requeires from the question from the assignment. If you ready, then I will set up the program for you. Lastly, I do suggest you to archive your talk page instead of removing/deleting the messages for all the edits will always be found/seen from the history log. More so because there is no time limit as such and I may complete it as I learn more about Wikipedia in time. I also read some of CVUAs and would like to know how much is the required percentage for graduating like ([15] with 76 percent). Also I will archive my talk page from now that you told me. 4SnavaA all the participant who I have trained that I suspected they look at other ppl work and they can help themselves and copied the answers and it always ended up they could not answered those questions which they have to come up with the answer by finding the edits and either abandaned the program halfway or they abandoned on the final exam. You would not learn if you dont read "everything" and more from the material provided and you need to spend a lot of them finding the edits. Some of the action needs be know how to act upon it only from the experience you have had after a long time editing Wikipedia besides knowing the guidelines, because there are certain norms, judgmental calls and more important how you react to the trolling of the editors. To be a counter vandalism editors, you should would commit to doing it for a long time, and not just doing it for only a few months. We the trainers spend a lot of time working with the trainees and would like to have the trainee ready want to learn and contribute to Wikipedia. Cassiopeia talk 09:40, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Imcdc Good day. I have a look at the source in the draft. None of them can be used to contribute to the notability needed to be a stand alone article for the sources are not independent (interviews) or not directly talk about the subject. MMA gyms are very often receive few coverage and the coverage they received often in the interview format or via a passing mentioned in fighter articles. Stay safe and best. Yes. I've tried really hard to find something on it but for some reason there's nothing to be found for some reason. Everything is about the fighters for most part or an interview with them about the gym. Not sure how a gym like this has less direct coverage than other gyms that weren't as successful. That said, although the Bleacher report articles do have some interviews in them, they do mention factual parts of the gym so I'm not sure if they can be counted out. -Imcdc (talk) 10:45, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
Imcdc If the article has only a few sentences of interview content then we could use it, but the Bleacher article has about 40% of the content from interview. What we need is that the subject needs to be has singificant coverage (5 sources) form independent, reliable sources that the sources talk about the subject in length and in depth. Hello Cassiopeia

This minor edit you removed that he was Kurdish in the background section when the sources clearly state he is Kurdish. You've also now reverted stating he is Kurdish in the lead so you're clearly not happy with both. Secondly this edit the source clearly states that he held the Kurdistan flag along with the Finland flag, this is backed up by actual proof with another source with a picture yet you removed and stated "unsourced". TataofTata Good day. First of all, you dont need to nested my username in double square brackets for it is only meant for the article in Wikipedia (internal link). Secondly it is not because I am not happy with the edits, but the edits didnt adhere to Wikipedia guidelines. In Wikipedia all content need to be supported by source where the editor who added the content need to provide the source for [[WP:V|verification] - see WP:PROVEIT where [ https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Makwan_Amirkhani&diff=prev&oldid=1032902648&diffmode=source this edit] was not supported by source.
This minor edit which I have removed because the info was already in the body text - scroll down to 1.1 Kurdish heritage "Despite growing up in Finland, Amirkhani remains proud of his Kurdish heritage." which was supported by source, and later it the wording was changed slightly to meet NPOV - in the current version - see Background section. After your "minor" edit of removing that he is Kurdish in the "background" section, as I stated, you wiped the entire "kurdish heritage" section and finally added "born into a Kurdish family". TataofTata No need to apologies for not adding your signature as you are a new editor and might not know some of the Wikipedia guidelines and protocols. When an experienced editor write to you on your or their talk page, it usually is to inform you and educated you about certain guidelines or norm you might not aware of due to you are new here. Kurdish heritage and born into Kurdish family is the same thing for it is just the wording. Editors can change the wording as long as it meets WP:NPOV, WP:PROVEIT/WP:V and write in their own words as long as it is supported by independent, reliable source. stay safe and best. Cassiopeia I am aware that it was wording, I was pointing out that it's quite an odd way of simply saying the person is of Kurdish origin.
As for your no source removal. This is the source. What part are you having trouble seeing? Search the word "Peshmerga" regarding supporting on his social media accounts. Secondly search "flag" regarding the Kurdish flag, and also the other source which you removed is this Clearly sourced. I presume you are an experienced editor so shouldn't be missing this? TataofTata I had also informed you before, the info (1) was unsourced that is the reason it was removed and (2) the info "already in the" page - First sentence of "Kurdish heritage" section - pls see your hist diff again. And also, I had also informed since the edit, the wording has been changed and you can find the info on the current "Background section' 'Amirkhani was born in Kermanshah, Iran into a Kurdish family.". Secondly, regardless what flag Armirkhani raised (many fighters raised their parent family/ethnicity/heritage flags or the the world flag or other countries' flags), the fact is Armirkhani was born in Iran and became Finish citizen - that would be in the lead section as per guidelines. As for the body text, we can add the heritage/ethnicity (again, which is already in the background section" of the page. (pls go back to read my messages in your talk page). I have explained this to you I think about 7 times by now in your talk page, Armirkhani talk page and my talk page. You need to learn more about Wikipedia, learn from experienced editors and understanding editing norm even thought you started editing in 2017 you have only 194 main space edit as per today - see here.
