New pages patrol school

Hi Cassiopeia, I would like to take your new pages patrol school. I have AFC perms but is a bit nervous when going through the AFC queue and I think that going through NPP school would help. I also want want to patrol new pages and gain a better understanding on the deletion, draftification and in general the reviewing process for new articles. I have read Wikipedia:New pages patrol and skimmed through pages in its related pages section and Wikipedia:Page Curation/Help. Thanks in advance! Justiyaya Thank you for interested in joining the program. Even thought I am the who set up the program but program belong to the NPPS and not mine. The program is an intensive and it covers many topics, including AfD, PROP, CSD, sources, GNG, SNG, copyvio tagging and etc., which is part of the work of reviewing a new page. Thus it would require a lot of your time in reading the material/guidelines and work on the assignments. There is not time limit on completing the program, but most participants would finish the program in 3 months. If you are still interested after reading the above, then pop back to inform me. At the mean time, if you not familiar with some of the Wikipedia basic guidelines and have not complete WP:TWA program ( about 90 minis) then you might want to do so. Stay safe and best. CVUA

Hi there! I see you have an opening on CVUA? If you look through my editing history, you will see I am fairly active in recent changes patrolling, and I also spend time making contributions. With six months experience and several hundred vandalism reverts, I would like to formally go through the academy. I think I am a good candidate for a number of reasons:

  1. Since coming to Wikipedia, I have made a concerted effort to locate, read, understand, and follow policies
  2. I have already used my initiative to learn how to filter edits, and the basics of using recent changes
  3. I am very open to learning, and while I already think I am an okay recent changes patroller and vandalism reverser, I would like to absorb some knowledge of a more experienced user and will be both a student of initiative but also willing to learn and take direction. Basically, I have a clue but do not think I know everything

Kindly complete WP:TWA program (90 mins) to familiar yourself on some basic Wikipedia guidelines and pop back here to let me know and I will set up the program for you. Btw, I would like to inform you that the program do require you to do some reading and working on assignments which means your need to spend some time for the tasks. Cassiopeia Thanks! I did TWA when I first started. I used to have all the TWA badges on my user page but thought they looked kinda...well pretentious/amateur/hat collectorish so I took them off. I am very much okay with the fact CVUA requires active participation and reading for a period of time, and I am not a timewaster. I will engage fully. And yes, rug up too. I am bloody freezing atm! It's Paris on Saturday, September 3, at the Accor Arena.

Also, not sure if you noticed but on the page UFC Fight Night 214 the info box says August 13, 2022 but the event page says September 10, 2022, easy mistake I guess but thought I'd let you know as I just saw this also :)

Also just to add, someone has messed with UFC 281, changed it to CM Punk vs Ngannou, added UFC 300 and changed the promotion to Bellator. I get a bit confused sometimes when comparing the edits as to which to revert etc. and I don't want to revert the wrong edit so just thought I'd give you a head up on this too so you can amend :)

That's awesome stuff!! Honestly, I know I sound like a broken record but you do a wonderful job here. I try my best to contribute and help the best I can (as that's all I enjoy to do) however you really do help loads and are fantastic here! I will check out that article too and yeah, it's going to be really good! As I say, I think the UFC are going to go all out with the France event, Tuivasa and Gane looks like it's going ahead, there's talks of Whittaker and Vettori now too, Arnold Allen is looking to be on the card so already it's looking great! Of course, how many of those fights end up on the card is a different question but they are definitely working hard to create such a fantastic card, it's going to be awesome!!
I'm in the UK by the way so the time zones for me too are very early hours haha. I hope all is well for you and thanks again for all your wonderful time and help, I really appreciate you and just want you to kindly know this :)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Cassiopeia,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 816 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 858 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Recent changes

  • Administrators using the mobile web interface can now access Special:Block directly from user pages. [1]
  • The www.wiktionary.org portal page now uses an automated update system. Other project portals will be updated over the next few months. [2]

Problems

  • The Growth team maintains a mentorship program for newcomers. Previously, newcomers weren't able to opt out from the program. Starting May 19, 2022, newcomers are able to fully opt out from Growth mentorship, in case they do not wish to have any mentor at all. [3]
  • Some editors cannot access the content translation tool if they load it by clicking from the contributions menu. This problem is being worked on. It should still work properly if accessed directly via Special:ContentTranslation. [4]

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 24 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 25 May. It will be on all wikis from 26 May (calendar).

Future changes

  • Gadget and user scripts developers are invited to give feedback on a proposed technical policy aiming to improve support from MediaWiki developers. [5]

(1) CVUA - Thank your for interested in joining CVUA. The program do require a lot of your time to work on the assignment and also some reading material (Wikipedia guidelines); however, there is no time frame to complete the program as every participant would work on the program on their own page. Most participant would complete the program in 2 months.   • Advanced item In the AbuseFilter extension, an ip_in_ranges() function has been introduced to check if an IP is in any of the ranges. Wikis are advised to combine multiple ip_in_range() expressions joined by | into a single expression for better performance. You can use the search function on Special:AbuseFilter to locate its usage. [6]
  • The IP Info feature which helps abuse fighters access information about IPs, has been deployed to all wikis as a beta feature. This comes after weeks of beta testing on test.wikipedia.org.

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 31 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 June. It will be on all wikis from 2 June (calendar).
  • Some wikis will be in read-only for a few minutes because of a switch of their main database. It will be performed on 31 May at 07:00 UTC (targeted wikis).
  • The New Topic Tool will be deployed for all editors at most wikis soon. You will be able to opt out from within the tool and in Preferences. [7][8]

The New topic tool helps editors create new ==Sections== on discussion pages. New editors are more successful with this new tool. You can read the report. Soon, the Editing team will offer this to all editors at most WMF-hosted wikis. You can join the discussion about this tool for the English Wikipedia is at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Enabling the New Topic Tool by default. You will be able to turn it off in the tool or at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.

The Editing team plans to change the appearance of talk pages. These are separate from the changes made by the mw:Desktop improvements project and will appear in both Vector 2010 and Vector 2022. The goal is to add some information and make discussions look visibly different from encyclopedia articles. You can see some ideas at Wikipedia talk:Talk pages project#Prototype Ready for Feedback.

hi sir, i created an article that i think deserves to be on wikipedia, an article called Ali Tajdary that you returned to the fund. according to wikipedia rules, if someone in an mma organization has the highest title he is famous for winning. he has won the highest title in both organizations and received the championship belt. please review the sources again. i think this article deserves to stay on wikipedia, thank you. According to wikipedia in every MMA organization if it has won the highest title or has played three games in different organizations, wjf is an international MMA sports federation and also Budo is a reputable Japanese organization.
