Disambiguation link notification for October 17[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Desert Victory, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page TCM. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Anglo or American English?[edit]

Is their a seperate wikipedia for the UK? I feel that Wikipedia should have a standardized form of English, and should either use Anglo or American spelling of words such as theatre vs. theater, dialling vs. dialing, etc. to maintain continuity among articles.

While it would be a major undertaking to convert the millions of differing spellings, I feel it would improve the overall quality of Wikipedia, and while technically it would be more discriminant amongst one group, I feel that it would add to the continuity and overall quality of Wikipedia, as well as avoiding misunderstandings such as one group thinking they are typos, or even adopting the spelling which would technically be wrong in their country.

If standardized, these problems would still exist amongst one of the groups, but if it was clearly stated on the Wikipedia English home page that one form should be used at all times(under penalty of death :) ), I feel that in the long run it would lead to a more quality Wikipedia experience for everyone.

Being American, I'm obviously biased to switching to American, due to (I believe) a greater population using American spelling as a first language(although Indians, Africans et al that speak English could quickly turn the tables if you count second languages), as well as the fact that the majority of clashing words are already Americanized, making it simpler to switch from one to the other.

On the other hand, Anglo English came first, and is seen by many as the "official" version of English, and I believe is used by more countries that have large English speaking populations, although usually as a second language, so they would probably be on the Hindi, Afrikaans, etc. wikipedia(except when an article is not available in their native language).

Thoughts? Leave it, change it, vote on it? Cgschmidt3169 (talk) 23:44, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Fairytale of New York"[edit]

Thanks for correcting the typo – I agree with your spelling. You won't find a transcript online because the quote was taken from a TV programme about the song, so I just typed word for word what Shane MacGowan said, hence my spelling error. Richard3120 (talk) 17:23, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article John-Allan Hygerth has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.
