Date formatting

Hi there - just a quick note. I saw you made a load of changes to dates in footballer players' articles at the moment, most of them good. However, although I think it is a good idea to change standalone years to seasons, e.g. "x won an FA Cup in 1998" → "x won an FA Cup in 1997-98"; when it comes to specifying particular dates, e.g. "y was signed by Arsenal on April 6 2006", it is probably best to keep the date format exactly like that, instead of piping the year link to the relevant season. That's how the Manual of Style specifies how exact dates should be formatted, and to use football season wikilinks breaks the way users' date preferences are displayed. So it's probably best to leave that kind of date alone.

Sorry for the bother - most of the edits you made were good ones, just alerting you to a minor quibble. Cheers. Qwghlm 22:51, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey, just a barnstar to know your contributions are valued, for all your edits. At the same time, I encourage you to comment on the various discussion pages as several proposals are going on, as the Singapore article went through its fifth FAC not too long ago. Also, perhaps you want to create a photo gallery? Anyway, keep up the good work!

RE:Water Margin table

Hi, thanks for the message. When I'm done with adding the tables to every one of the 108 Heroes (you could help too :D ) they'll all appear in the category Water Margin characters. That category is a subcategory of Category:Water Margin, and the "villains", if they were previously in the "Water Margin" category will still be there. I'm not actually deleting the category "Water Margin", just moving the appropriate ones to a subcategory of that.

BTW, if you have a list of all the villains in the novel you can add them to the table. I don't remember all of them (and there isn't a readily-available list like the heroes) so I didn't add them, but I left some space (commented out) in Template:Water Margin characters. And I deliberately made it "characters" so villains could be added too. -- Миборовский U|T|C|M|E|Chugoku Banzai! 03:23, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for telling me about that apps and goal thing, I didn't know :) I deleted the England Squad- 2006 World Cup box because the World Cup is over. Otherwise, why not add the England Squad- 2002 World Cup or England Squad- Euro 2004 etc etc? I guess I should have noted why, but I thought it was kinda obvious. Rosicky

Considering you add "Arsenal Statistics" how about doing some of the hard work and add in the Dortmund and Sparta Prague statistics too instead of leaving someone else do the hard work Niall123 21:53, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

not sure what you're talking about - i've been responsible for putting up stats for almost all the contemporary arsenal players, some dating back to 1995-96. i can't put up stats for their previous careers with other clubs because such stats are not easily available or they can't quite be verified. hence only arsenal stats are provided. your comment is rude and redundant. Not sure how to reply to a private message, so apologies for doing it this way. "It also cements Singapore's place as one the modern world's most sexist nations, as it cannot be applied to women or girls." Is blatantly true. What's the point? Surely it should be pointed out.

GFDL images go to here

It is strongly discouraged to upload images to Wikipedia if they are your own. If they are your own, please from now on, upload them to Wikimedia Commons. Just register an account and transwiki them by re-uploading them over there. There you can sort them into galleries and categorise them. Thanks for your cooperation. You have a nice set of pictures, and there you can let it be used on ALL Wikimedia projects such as zhwiki, dewiki, meta-wiki, wikinews, wikibooks, frwiki etc. Please do transwiki them and upload any other images straight to Commons. --Terence Ong (C | R) 07:02, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh yes, would you mind not uploading images with names like Image:CIMG2631.JPG, its strongly discouraged and is hard to know the content of the image. Re: Your edit to User talk:Bobgat

Re: this edit -- let it go... I don't agree with him either (especially when my nationality situation is the same as Steve Nash but he's trying to tell me I don't know my own nationality), but I don't think we're going to convince him. He seems to be trying to contradict the dictionary meaning of nationality (which is, and I quote, "nationality: n. the fact of being a citizen of a particular nation") without any good evidence. No sense in trying to argue the point when he's doing that. -→Buchanan-Hermit/?! 15:35, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Morality

"never once believed morality was subjective (it is subjectively interpreted but objectively ascertainable)"

Agree like totally. While grey areas do exist, they're not everywhere. For the fundamentals of morality, what is wrong is wrong. There's no "in my opinion" or "in your opinion". And for those who call others judgemental, it's because they do not accept the truth. And the only way to reject the truth and yet remain all self-righteous about it is to victimise yourself with an accusation of judgementalism at the other party.

{{SG}} Assessment

Hi, i noticed you rated UK Shyam as "mid" importance whilst several Members of Parliament, albeit new ones, were rated of "low" importance (by others). How are such decisions reached? To me, Shyam is off the national track & field radar already, whilst the newer MPs are surely emerging on the local scene. Thanks. Chensiyuan 23:48, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Although UK Shyam may be out of the sports scene, this does not marr his notability and importance, somewhat being a pioneer in the track & field arena. In comparison, relatively new MPs have fewer contributions (or fewer published contributions). This is merely my opinion, and the importance scale is based on the priority of the article towards the encyclopedia as a whole. However, if you disagree with any rating, please feel free to rectify as required. Thanks, SpLoT // 13:04, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Those are all the Raptors pics I got. Cheers! Epson291 08:50, 6 February 2007 (UTC) I'll take more if I go again.

The article looks good but a couple of the pics you added are questionable. You should look over WIkipedia:Fair use to understand the policies regarding fair use of copyrighted photos. Basically you need to provied a source, scale down the resolution, provide a fair use rationale, and the photo must be of a person or event for which no reasonable non-copyrighted subtitiute could be found. Basically the only photos photos you can use from flickr are ones listed as "creative commons"-attribution and/or share alike, like the pic of Chris Bosh I found. After the photo issue is resolved I'll nominate it for Good Article status, at which point an editor will come along and review it for GA. If the editor objects to anything usually he will comment on the article's talk page and allow you to fix anything before failing it. Even if he does fail it he will list his objections and you can fix them and re-nominate the next day if you want to provided everything is fixed. Also you could look over the Good article criteria to better understand what you need to do now, if anything before I nominate it. Quadzilla99 09:10, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Okay maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am, but you should fill out the image page in the same way I did for the Chris Bosh photo. They need a source so it can be verified they are allowed, also some people list NBA phtos (such as user Vedia) as creative commons even though they aren't. Tab the pictures {{flickrreview}} and an admin will look them over. Quadzilla99 09:36, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Here's another example of a pic with the image page filled out according to the requirements of Commons:[1] Quadzilla99 09:38, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Raptors GA

Ok I nominated Toronto Raptors to go through the GA process it can take a while for an editor to examine it. It will be very helpful if you keep an eye on it as many times they are put on hold while a reviewer puts issues that need to be addressed on the article's talk page. One thing I would make sure of is any statement no matter how obvious or true it is that says how good someone or something is should have a source or be reworded to be objective. Quadzilla99 16:55, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Actually it looks pretty objective we'll see what the eventual reviewer thinks. Quadzilla99 16:58, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

An editor has made a request that MJ be peer reviewed. Thought I'd notify you as you work on the page a lot and might want to check in to see any issues that need addressing. Quadzilla99 16:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Okay I looked it over, it looks pretty solid. One thing, naybe you could either fill out a couple of the individual season sections with more information or merge the NBA career section into two or three total sections. I know it's common to have individual season sections knowadays in articles but sometimes maybe combining it will work better. That's really all I see. Quadzilla99 07:28, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

while editing one of the references, you used the month-day format for the date. is it your intention to change them all since the current references use the day-month format. thanks. Chensiyuan 05:05, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

The reason dates are wiki-linked is so that each editor's date preferences are respected; that is, each editor will see dates according to their own preferences. But, I'm curious anyway, since I don't believe I've changed anything—can you point me to a date I changed so I can see what you're referrring to? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 05:14, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the note. Thanks also for initially helping me with the article, and for your support now that it has been nominated for deletion. Like you, I strongly believe that type of article has a place on Wikipedia. As a silent protest, I am not getting involved in the debate. I am instead spending my day being constructive; expanding some football articles... something which I believe everybody at the deletion discussion should also be doing. Again, thanks for your help. All the best, prolly speak to you soon. -GilbertoSilvaFan 14:30, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

aye, i only have respect for wikipedians such as yourself who do productive things and earn articles FA class. cya around. Chensiyuan 15:25, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey there again. I'd like to pick your brain, if you don't mind :-) It's about image fair use. I found an image of Ottorino Barassi, and I'm wondering if this image would be considered 'fair use' on the article. It's from this page. I think it may well be fair use, since it's a low-res photo to identify a deceased person... however, I can't find a suitable license on the upload page. To your best judgement, do you think that the image counts as fair use, and if so, which license is most suitable? Thanks! -GilbertoSilvaFan 22:48, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

hi. you're right there isn't a suitable license. technically if you read the instructions, stating the license is an alternative to providing a summary of the image (author, source, fair use rationale). however it is likely some silly bot will tag the image for deletion if you don't state the license.
WP has really stringent criteria on what constitutes fair use. imo this image will pass fair use under usa law, but will have some difficulty passing WP criteria and ONLY because there will be a ton of "fair use" fanatics out there waiting to make some noise when an image isn't free. they will just throw wp:fair use at you without explaining how the image does not pass fair use.
i'm about to go to school now, so i can't help you scour WP at the moment, but my advice is: (1) sniff around something like category:1971 deaths (better still if the person is an Italian) and see if some of the articles there contain images. if the images are licensed, check out what fair use rationale was provided and see if it fits the image you found; (2) i don't know if you have checked this out, may be useful.
keep me posted and i'd try to find out more for you in the meantime. Chensiyuan 01:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for all the advice! I had a look through about 100 image pages and saw a few of the images which qualify as fair use. I've uploaded the image with the tags/rationale which I think give it the best chance of not being deleterated. The image is Image:Ottorino_Barassi.jpg. Also, feel free to read through the brand new Peter Knowles and correct any grammatical errors. I've spent too long looking at the article, and I am now desensitized to it. Anyway, if you need a favour on WP, just give me a shout... I figure I owe it to you. Thanks again, GilbertoSilvaFan 20:16, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

i think the description is fair enough (pun intended), but keep fingers crossed for some silly wikilawyer to come mess things up. 50-50. Chensiyuan 02:40, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
you're most welcome. i notice on the Knowles page, it is consistently written as "Wolves" without "the". that is intended? Chensiyuan 02:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey. Was just popping by to let you know that Peter Knowles is on the front page under the 'did you know?' section. Cool eh? Thanks for your help with grammar on the article! While I was popping by, I saw your note about 'the wolves' vs. 'wolves'. I'll quickly run through why I used 'wolves' and not 'the wolves'. While 'Wolves' is just a nickname, in England it is mainly used as the actual name of the club. It is an anomaly nickname, really. It is true that normally nicknames are prefixed by 'the' (ie. 'the gunners', 'the red devils' etc.), but in Wolves' case, you only say 'Wolves'. In grammar, it is treated like a club name; just like you'd say 'Bergkamp joined Arsenal' and not 'Bergkamp joined the Arsenal', you'd say 'Knowles joined Wolves' and not 'Knowles joined the Wolves'. From Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., "The club is mostly referred to by a shortened version of its name, Wolves." It's weird though, I hadn't really thought about that weird usage until you mentioned it in your edit summary. Anyway. Thought you'd find that interesting, since I certainly did! All the best, take care. GilbertoSilvaFan 17:29, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

yup it's cool to see something featured on the mainpage even if it's DYN. ok your explanation makes sense now. i thought you couldn't have left out "the" by accident. Chensiyuan 17:37, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Hey. Sure, I'll help. Some brainstormage:
  • No citations in the lead para. The points are probably all cited further in the article, but citations should double up. If a GA or FA voter sees no citations in the lead, it makes them nervous :-)
  • 'First years at Monaco' section starts without any mention of the first 6 years of his life. I'll try and find some info on it and make an 'Early life' section. Even if the text is very fleshed out and doesn't have much substance, it's nice to have a paragraph there about his baby days.
  • The sections on his time at Monaco and Juve are very short. I don't know if much info exists on those days, but I'll have a look around for some.
  • 'International career' section should be integrated into the previous club-only sections. The 'Arsenal career' header will be renamed 'Senior career', 'First years at Monaco' renamed to 'Early career'. FA voters don't like it when a new section of prose starts a new timeline.
  • Only one citation in 'racism' section, I'll find some more to properly source it.
  • A trivia section exists. Must deleterate. Or preferably, integrate into the prose (if appropriate).
Obviously you are a far more experienced user than I, so if you have any comments on those bullet points, let me know. Also, it would be great if you could write your own 'to do' list, so we can get a good idea of all the work that has to be done.
It's fairly easy to get an article to FA, I think we could do it by April 5th. As you probably know, the hard part isn't getting the article FA quality, it's convincing people that it is FA quality. ;-) Coolio; I'll have a go at all those bullet points in the next day or two. I'll hear from you soon. -GilbertoSilvaFan 12:10, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Hey again. I made a few changes to the article. Check Talk:Thierry Henry for details :-) -GilbertoSilvaFan 18:08, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. :-) Much appreciated. It's a shame we couldn't at least squeeze the TH article through GA before I went, but I'm sure you'll have no problems with it yourself. Good luck in the future! -GilbertoSilvaFan 09:55, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the size of the reception section on Devil May Cry the reasons behind that is to attend concers about it being "underdeveloped" and the constant presure of users telling us to add this and that, I don't think we an cut it any shorter without losing supporters, please don't let that be a obstacle in your evaluation of the article, if you need to contact somebody about how to improve the article please contact User:Boradis he will be dealing with the copy-edit of the prose soon, cause I will be unavailable this weekend, thanks for your help on the article. - 04:03, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Certainly, thanks for clarifying. Chensiyuan 04:12, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

You could either work feverishly to get it ready and address concerns (if you have the energy) or state on the FAC that you are the main contributor and don't think it is ready and vote oppose. If you let it go through and work hard at it, it will be closer next time. Also I think only the FAC coordinator (Raul654) and the original nominator can withdraw an FAC before it is finished. I'll try to help out the next couple of days, I fixed the dashes, and will try to fix any other minor issues I see. As we learned on Michael Jordan you have to be pretty generic with descriptive terms or else they will be called POV, I'll try to fix one or two. Also lead could use a little expansion. Quadzilla99 16:01, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

It's a situation that bugs me, because it happened to me with Tourette syndrome. I knew when the FA I wrote was and wasn't ready, but uninvolved, driveby editors kept noticing it and trying to nom it — and did nom it for GA — both times, when I was traveling and couldn't tend to the article. I was the *only* editor working on the article, and the person who wanted to nom it wouldn't have been able to defend or improve it, and it was rude for someone to nom it without even a talk page comment, at a time I was traveling. If you want me to Speedy Object so you can nom it yourself when you're ready, I will. If you want to let it run, I won't. No one "owns" the article, but Tomer T keeps nomming but not improving/defending/answering FACs — FAC is not peer review. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:00, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Fix the endashes throughout (see WP:DASH, date ranges and numbers are separated by endashes, not hyphens. You can find the en and em dashes below the edit screen. And, in some sections you need to change en dashes to em dashes (See Notable former players as an example where you use endashes to indicate punctuation.
    • hyphen -
    • en dash –
    • em dash —
  • Can you divide the Franchise history into something besides years? That is, can you characterize their history by epochs or accomplishments or periods so that it's not by boring old year? Reporting on the team year-by-year seems to fall into WP:NOT. If you can summarize it more into some other categorization, it will be more "compelling" and less "report-y".
  • WP:MSH, change 4 Raptors accomplishments to Accomplishments.
  • Change List of section names to just section names, and include one or two lines of commentary in those sections to make them less "listy".
  • On quick glance, referencing work looks good. It looks like all sources are complete, and it looks like they're reliable (I haven't clicked on any).
  • Source for records and other stat sections?
  • You might need to analyze the prose for what may look like original research or opinion, to avoid the Michael Jordan scenario. For example, I saw ... Currently, the Raptors have an excellent, but success-starved fan base.

Have to get to an appointment; that's all I can offer for now. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:15, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

I think the dashes are fixed, ones that link to titles of articles such as 2006-07 NBA season stay hyphens I believe, as dashes are always hyphens in article titles. Maybe I'm wrong and you pipe them to use the en and em dashes. I fixed everyone that wasn't a link. Sandy knows better than regarding that though. Prose could use some work as well, some grammtical clunkiness. I submitted it to the League of Copyeditors proofreading list. Quadzilla99 18:53, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
What to do about them in article titles isn't resolved. The question came up on talk (I think at WP:FAC, but maybe at WP:WIAFA), and there was no consensus. So, I ignore the ones that are in article titles :-) Ya'll on the NBA Project should take that issue on and try to get it figured out. I guess piping them could solve it for now? Not sure it's worth the effort, unless someone objects. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:02, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you both for helping out. Regarding the change from season-by-season breakdown to era-by-era (for lack of a better term), I'm doing that, and in the meantime, hoping to trim the length. I am still sitting on the fence as to whether there should be a speedyobject to the nomination though. I would really appreciate what you both think about the amount of things that need to be fixed before this article is anywhere likely to survive a FAC drive. After all, quite a bit of work has been done since the FA nomination. Thanks. Chensiyuan 23:18, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
It's in pretty good shape, but I'm not a prose person, so don't know if others will have 1a objects. (I didn't realize when I suggested consolidating the history that you had specifically addressed that on the FAC, LOL !) You might want to prune the blogs, message boards, and fan sites from External links. If you can get copyedit help, you can probably pass with colors; I don't think people will speedy object considering the comments we've lodged. If you had sketchy sources, I'd be objecting anyway <smile>, but your sourcing is excellent. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:32, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your feedback. I'd wait for Quadzilla to chime in before I decide. The FAC page seems empty so far. Would keep working on the article. By the way, can you give e.g. of blogs and message boards which appear in the sources? I thought I got rid of them. Or are you making a general recommendation without specifically alluding to this instance? p.s. regarding formatting of sources, us guys at NBA Project picked up a thing or two from the Michael Jordan FAC process. So we did heed your "NBA Project members please buck up" exhortation. Chensiyuan 23:37, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, that makes me happy :-) Not sources — External links. Here are the ELs I'm not convinced on (see WP:EL, WP:NOT, WP:RS): SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:47, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

I could probably be convinced, though, on some of them—thinking for example of BostonDirtDogs.com SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:47, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh external links, I misread and thought you meant they appeared in the references. I honestly do not believe the links are legitimate in the WP sense, but everytime I tried to remove them in the past they would be re-inserted. But I'd remove them and see how it goes this time. I've left my comments in the FAC. I'm flattered you asked for my input, so feel free to ask again in the future. The article looks fantastic, by the way. Cheers, LankybuggerYell ○ 14:55, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey, just dropped by to say good job with your edits in the Toronto Raptors article. I really hope that it will be a featured article!! And hopefully they'll do great in the playoffs too :) Ô 02:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Ref type

Hey Chen, why do you hard-code references, as you did in an edit to Kris Humphries? {{cite …}} are standard templates, and each reference doesn’t need to be changed whenever the template changes. —LOL 23:19, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm not well versed with template usage, paradoxical as it sounds. Chensiyuan 03:34, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, alright then. It’s up to you whether or not you use the templates, but I encourage their use. See {{cite news}} and {{cite web}}, which are structurally the same and only have different appearances. They are the two main cite templates I use, and their usage and documentation are very straightforward. —LOL 04:41, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Before I figure out these templates then, if I see an article using templates, I would avoid adding my way of referencing, to maintain consistency. Chensiyuan 11:40, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

My RFA

Ah, darn. Looks like my RFA didn't succeed. No doubt I'll take another run at it in a few months when my edit count isn't such an issue. Raptors team colors

In the article right now it states that "The team's colours of bright red, purple, black, and silver were also revealed and chosen as an ode to Canadian James Naismith, the inventor of basketball." I think this implies that all of the colors were an honor of naismith. However, on the official Raptors history is states "The team colors were to be bright red, purple, black, and "Naismith silver" (in honour of Canadian James Naismith, who invented the game of basketball in 1891)". I think this says that only silver was chosen in honor of the doctor. Still no reason given for silver representing Naismith, but this makes more sense than four colors honoring Naismith. I was going to change the article to read more like the the official account but wanted to get your imput as I figured you knew better than me. Thanks. Warhol13 23:53, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback. I think you're right; it's Naismith silver only. Do change it to read more like the official account. Chensiyuan 08:36, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Use WP:AIV

Hey Chen, have you considered using WP:AIV? I think it’s better to report blatant vandals like User talk:72.1.206.118 instead of trying to outlast them. Giving five consecutive final warnings seems to lessen the meaning of “final”, if you ask me. :P —LOL 20:41, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Yo!

Hi! What's up? Yes, I know I said I'd be gone for a year, but due to the fact that the Bert article being Main Paged (tomorrow, May 16th), I just had to return to take part in it (and to annoy you, apparently). As usual, I have a request for you! Could you do a quick read through of the '2006-7' paragraph of Gilberto_Silva#Senior_career? I had to write it quite quickly, beacuse I'm at an internet cafe, and I'm sure there are some copy errors in there somewhere. I'll feel much better knowing it has your seal of approval as well. Anyway, hope you're doing okay, take care. Oh, and thanks :-) -GilbertoSilvaFan 18:16, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Raptors FAC

I got your message and took a look at the Raptors FAC. I'm not exactly sure what he proposes be done to fix the article--that is if his suggestions are even warranted at this point. It doesn't seem as if anyone is taking his objections too seriously. Let me know otherwise. ZodiiakDial Z 07:18, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Images

As far as I can tell, there is no reason for the Gilberto images to be speedily deleted. They are free to use, which means they don't need to be deleted. Most of them are actually in use. The reason given for speedy deletion is This is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image. which is not accurate. I see no valid reason for speedy deletion.  Sʟυмgυм • т  c  09:33, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Of course, I also forgot that if an image is stored on the commons, it's not necessary to store it on wikipedia. As an example, this image (chosen at random) has no image description page, because it is not wikipedia-hosted, it's only on the commons. Compare Image:Gilberto against Villa.jpg with Commons Image:Gilberto_against_Villa.jpg. Both display the same image URL. Therefore, a speedy deletion on a wikipedia image that is stored on the commons will delete only the description page.  Sʟυмgυм • т  c  10:46, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
PS. I feel very hungry after seeing the images on your user page.

Could you adopt I Not Stupid?

You posted the following response to my "GA drive" proposal:

As I've some experience with GAs and FAs, anyone working on the above who needs a 2nd op etc. can drop me a msg on my talkpage.

Could you adopt I Not Stupid? When failing the article's GA nomination last December, ExplorerCDT cited choppy prose and images as the two main issues. The Production section also needs more referenced information.

Have you watched the movie? How much do you know about it? Do you think you can address the issues outlined in the last paragraph?

--J.L.W.S. The Special One 01:59, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I have watched the movie -- albeit on a plane -- but I won't say I take a huge interest in the film. However, I will look into the article and its talkpage to see what I can do. Give me two days to slowly sort it out. I will start with the smaller details first. Chensiyuan 07:26, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
The prose in the plot is indeed choppy, perhaps a victim of over-detailing, although I would admit it's not of intolerable amount of detail. Just a matter of flow. Chensiyuan 10:46, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Ty. I've been working on Sugar Ray Robinson all day. For a guy who was ranked as the greatest boxer in history by ESPN.com, the Associated Press, and The Ring magazine, his article was pretty weak. That's the great thing about Wikipedia—yesterday morning I had no plans to work on his article, but after seeing a couple of books over my father's house yesterday, and drinking a couple of cups of coffee today, here I am working on his article. In the process, I'm learning new and fun stuff about someone that I knew a decent amount of stuff about, but was no expert on. There's just so much to do, I don't see how anyone could ever get tired of writing here, now dealing with people that's another story. As you well know... Quadzilla99 21:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, we need more people with passion and a positive attitude. I like working on lesser known articles because there's a lower chance of bumping into someone who's completely negative and has nothing of any value whatsoever to contribute. I know you don't need my encouragement, but all the best, while here's hoping I stay the course. Chensiyuan 21:31, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Featured topic?

It had never occurred to me before, but it sounds like possibility. Looking at Wikipedia:Featured topic criteria, it seems that there are a couple of big obstacles:

  • 5. There is no obvious gap (missing or stub article) in the topic. when combined with:
  • 6. Each article is of high quality

..means that all the players need good articles.

Furthermore, one of the 'Recommendations' is that: The topic is not overly large. There are currently 30 players listed in the squad, but I don't see why that is really a problem. It depends on the scope of the topic - do we want to include the articles listed on {{Arsenal F.C.}}?

Finding enough information to make a good article for each of the younger players however, is going to very difficult - many are currently stub class. Perhaps we should bring it up at the Arsenal F.C. article. I think User:Qwghlm could be a good ally if we want to go for this, as he contributed much to Arsenal's FA status. I've never really tried to create an FA, except to help out GilbertoSilvaFan with a few questions, so I may not be the most useful editor for such a challenge, but I'll help.  Sʟυмgυм • т  c  18:09, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Yup I see what you're saying and I agree that gaps may be a problem. Will have to think through it before deciding the next step if any. Chensiyuan 12:06, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

References on Toronto Raptors

Out of curiosity, why did you revert my change to the reference style on the Toronto Raptors page? What's wrong with having references that are consistent with thousands of other pages on Wikipedia? --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 11:23, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Because the original references are perfectly valid. FYI, it says so on the WP guidelines. More importantly, the article achieved FA status (17 or 18 votes of support) using those very citations which you changed. The citation format was even approved by some very experienced users. To be fair, using templates is perfectly legitimate. But unless you intend to continually update the article and therefore prefer to use templates, there is no real good reason to use templates. To be sure, quite a number of the NBA GAs and FAs use manual citation styles, such as Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. This style is not limited to NBA articles, see the soccer articles on Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas too. Basically, a good citation usually contains the article name, the article source, the article author, the article date, and if an online source, the accessed/retrieved date. An article of course should maintain a consistent and uniform style of citation. Chensiyuan 13:19, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
OK, good enough. Thanks for the explanation. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 16:33, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I am sorry for fighting against you over a little part of the article. I was just too heated. But, now that I'm calmed, can we discuss this and solve this dispute in a reasonable manner. I want to hear your opinions to and please reply it in my talk page. By the first time I red the article, I thought that Bosh improved his stats a lot such as from 15ppg to 22.6ppg. But then I noticed he only improved from 22.5ppg to 22.6ppg. The same idea also applies to rpg and apg. He only improved from 9.2rpg to 10.7rpg and I thought from 5rpg to 10.7 rpg. He also only improved 0.1apg and I thought maybe 3apg. It gives misleading to the reader like me. My edit, which says Bosh led the Raptors to win their first division title has no misleading and is better than yours. Please fell free to express your opinions about this on MY talk page. In case you don't realise your first edit is preserved. The second edit was undone because it contains original research on your part -- no matter how real the possibility is of him being significantly involved in Barca's setpiece play. I.e., you are speculating. WP is crystal clear on these two policies. It's fine if you're not acquainted with all the WP policies, but it is a simple duty to see what exactly has been edited away and what has been preserved, more so when the edit changes/summary fully exhibits such information. Thankyou very much. It is very helpful to receive my first barnstar! Thankyou for your advice, and sorry for the mis-understanding. Jackrm 01:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
This may sound off topic, and feel free to say no, but do you have any means of contact such as MSN Messenger which i may contact you with? It would be great to talk to a fellow wikipedia editor who edits articles similar to my own. If so, my MSN adress is --- Thankyou again. Jackrm 01:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I'd add you. Chensiyuan 07:27, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Bob Cousy

Hi there, I also just saw the "fail", and I was not so much surprised by the "no" (Blnguyen is a tough cookie) but of the speed that the new GAC process has got now. I remember waiting 40 days before e.g. Oscar Robertson was reviewed. Well, I guess we just tick off his points one by one, and then re-add Bob Cousy to the GAC process again. There are always 2nd, 3rd and 17th attempts. Onomatopoeia 08:12, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Earl Strom

Hey Chensiyuan, thanks for the comments. I've taken a break from editing the Earl Strom article for a while since I just got burnt out with all the edits. I'm hoping to get back into working on it soon. Right now I turned my attention to the whole Tim Donaghy situation. RyguyMN 23:48, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Thierry Henry

Why did you delete my Henry addition? I want to know your criteria on why you did? It would be helpful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Garrysantos (talkcontribs) 25 July 2007, 01:30

Hi, consider reading WP:NOT#INFO. While you're there, you'd find other related policies/guidelines. I know it's always exciting to add new (and news) content to an article. But you'd come to see that at bottom, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Yes it is not a paper encyclopedia, but try imagining adding Henry's goal against Dundee in an encyclopedia entry. You see what I'm getting at? Don't be discouraged however -- Wikipedia remains firmly committed to consensus building, and if other editors agree that Henry's goal should be included, then it will stay. Otherwise, from my own experience it's a really trivial piece of information at worst, and too much detail at best. Chensiyuan 01:40, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

You're right man. I feel you. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it :)

James Milner PR

I’d appreciate it if you could contribute to this PR of James Milner. Also I’m away till the 13th so if your able to address any issues raised that would be even better. Wikipedia:Peer review/James Milner Buc 22:01, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

I have added my 2 cents, it is a very decent article at least. Maybe the jersey numbers and title list could use some referencing, though, but it is a soon-to-be GAC for sure. —Onomatopoeia 08:04, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Mendy Rudolph

Hi! I've been working on this Mendy Rudolph bio while trying to figure out what to do with the Earl Strom one. Would you mind looking this bio over? I think this one is GA-ready and will use this as a guide for the Strom one. It's not as thorough as Strom, which has made this one a bit easier to manage. Thanks. RyguyMN 04:49, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your review Chensiyuan, I'll see what I can do to correct some of the issues you raise. There might be more information published once the Hall of Fame ceremony happens next month. RyguyMN 00:05, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

You sure?

I was thinking about asking you if you want an WP:RFA as a long-standing editor who is excellent in sports topivs. But then I notice that you don't want to be admin userbox on your talk page. If you ever change your mind, just let me know and I will be proud to nominate you. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 06:41, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, it's a first for me to have someone suggest RFA. It's very flattering. However, I do not think I possess the correct personality traits to be an admin! Looking forward to more collaborations on sports articles in future. Chensiyuan 07:01, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thierry Henry

Those two edits I made was not in bad faith. I made this edit because I read Henry was traded but then I reverted my own edit because I read my information was already on there but just accidently didn't erase the word "on". That edit was a test nor a vandalism or done in bad faith. Brave warrior 02:39, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I really do not know what "the former" means. Can you please explain to me what it means on my talk page so I can stop worrying. Thank you. Brave warrior 11:51, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Wilt Chamberlain never fouled out of an NBA game; you can go to the NBA Registry and verify it. This note was eliminated.

You may wish to speak to user:Onomatopoeia regarding this. Chensiyuan 07:04, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi there!

Just noticed your edits of the MOS. We need more reviewers in the WP:FAC and WP:FAR rooms to stop the promotion of articles with substandard writing. It's a virtual tumult at the moment, and there are never enough copy-edit-type reviewers to "crack the whip". So you'd be welcome there if you had time to drop in. Tony 10:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, sure thing. Chensiyuan 10:50, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Tim Duncan

Hi there, I just skimmed through the TD article and found following points to address before making this a FAC:

  • The plantar fasciitis thingie of 2006 is unsourced (but well known)
  • The foot injury which hampered him in 2005 NBA Finals is unsourced (he irocinally picked it up against the Pistons in the regular season, IIRC)
  • Certain individual games have to be sourced, like his almost-quadruple double in the 2003 NBA Finals, the Game 7 loss in the 2006 WCF Semifinal series, his struggles in the Olympics ezc. (TonyTheTiger is a zealot on this)

But mostly, the article is pretty FAC-worthy. —Onomatopoeia 19:11, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Never mind that foot thingie, nobody really needs it. I think just a small copyedit, and then we wait for the peer review (at least for the bot), and then we jump into FAC action. —Onomatopoeia 14:16, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Greetings galore!

Hi there Chensiyuan, VASCO speaking,

thank you very much for understanding my point of view, i see yours too, WIKIPEDIA is no place for POV, even tough i posted it on discussion, i guess i went a little too far.

Greetings and have a nice weekend, VASCO AMARAL, PORTUGAL

GA on Hold - Manu Ginóbili

I have put Manu Ginóbili on hold for further review. If you can make the suggested changes within a week I will promote it.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 15:26, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words, but my coaching was a small part of the success, which is mostly due to your ability as an editor and in part due to Ginobili's interesting life.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 14:55, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

James Milner

I saw your comment on the PR. Thank you for the praise. Personally I don't think it's quite there yet and with the start of a new season and the rumors of him playing for England next week I'm going to wait anyway. But are you suggesting it is ready to be a GAC or even a FAC? Buc 05:57, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Just letting you know that once tonights under 21 match has been played and I've updated the aricle accordingly, I'm going to nominate it for GA status. Buc 12:14, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Tim Duncan, FAC

Hi there, thx for your words an Manu, and I want to say that TD is now a FAC. Actually I tried to wait for the peer review, but as the backlog on the peer review page is HUGE atm, I rather went ahead now. —Onomatopoeia 13:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Other interests is not a must at all. BTW, if concerning the article, just be bold, I don't own the article at all. —Onomatopoeia 06:49, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Basketball GA drive

As Director of WP:CHICAGO, I would be very interested in improving any player who was a multiple time All-star who spent the majority of his All-Star years with the Chicago Bulls. If you find any such players whose articles are WP:DYK eligible (less than 1500 characters) these articles are the type that truly could use the help of WP:CHICOTW. Let me know if you are familiar with any such articles. I guess the same would be true of women's basketball players for teams such as the Chicago Sky or Chicago Condors. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 13:48, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Red Auerbach delisted as GA

I just dropped lines on the talk page and on Wikipedia:Editor review/OhanaUnited, and i find it completely ludicrous as well. OhanaUnited's best sentence is "I did everything I could to contact the editors", L-O-L. WP:NBA? WP:GA/R? Our user pages? Nothing. W-O-W. —Onomatopoeia 12:33, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Portobello Road Market

Hi, I thought the image you removed (closeup of a stall) was appropriate for the article. From the existing images, one can't really see what an example of a stall is like. Would appreciate if you could reply at my talkpage, thanks. Chensiyuan 01:14, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

There is no firm guidance on the use of images in Wiki - there are bits of advice here and there, such as Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#Images, but one the whole it does come down to common sense. The article is Portobello Road, with a section on Portobello Market. The section on the market only has enough space for one image - of the two available I selected the general view as it gave a decent picture of the market in situ, and had some sense that a person could identify it as Portobello. The other image was a close of a stall and had no unique features - that could be any market stall. Placing another image of the market in the article would be inappropriate - there are other images of Portobello that could be used - a fair use image of Portobello Farm would be interesting, or a map from 1841, a picture of the Electric Cinema, a book shop - that sort of thing. That was my thinking. Regards SilkTork *** SilkyTalk 07:36, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
