LOOKING FOR HELP[edit]

Hi: I am Ivan, I am a Cuban wikipedian (User: Nayesda) I am currently working on several articles on Wikipedia for my university (Universidad de Oriente www.uo.edu.cu) and I would really appreciate if could help me by answering some questions about the nature of your work with Wikipedia. If you are willing to help me, you can contact me at: nayesda.daria@medired.scu.sld.cu Greetings, Ivan — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.220.215.12 (talk) 01:19, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Medal picture, et al.[edit]

Well, I was also accepted to York and UWO, but since I also got accepted to a good school, I went there instead. -- Scorpion0422 00:24, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in all fairness, most of our serious medal contenders don't come until next week. There are a few outside chances (4x100 relay in swimming, Brent Hayden) but the first legitimate medal contender comes wednesday in the 3m Synchro in diving. -- Scorpion0422 00:42, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Fort Lee Police Department[edit]

I removed the infobox because I felt that currently I did not have enough info to fill it and make it useful. The deparment is small, and could not fill even a quarter of the fields. As for the layout, I am new to Widipedia, so I am trying my best to get the format down. Thanks

Hi. I've granted your request. Please see WP:RBK to be sure on the use of the tool, and remember to use it only for clear and obvious vandalism. Any problems or questions I'm happy to help. Happy editing. Pedro :  Chat  20:22, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Google Chrome issue[edit]

Hi Chicgeek, I fixed the WebKit rendering issue you noted just now. Thanks for letting me know. PretzelsTalk! 23:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's really kind of you, and genuinely appreciated amongst all the harsh criticism at the moment. Also, you might want to update your oppose reason now I placed a Done tag on it. Best wishes, PretzelsTalk! 00:08, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Incidentally, just spotted your great userpage - would you mind me stealing a version of your super super sidebar? PretzelsTalk! 00:03, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's very kind of you, thanks so much! It's up now at User:Pretzels if you're interested. PretzelsTalk! 01:48, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • 1g, unfortunately, the new ones look really swish! And with a speaker a bunch more App Store stuff becomes usable >_<   PretzelsTalk! 23:12, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Agh — I can't help you, it was a present :S I'd guess around £250, so to sell a used one perhaps £80 - £120? That's a guess, it could be totally out. You're real serious about getting the new one! PretzelsTalk! 17:20, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

speedies[edit]

If you are going to do patrolling, you might want to read WP:CSD carefully--I check it every few months myself. In particular, one cannot speedy delete for being non-notable or for being unencyclopedic. If those are your reasons, use WP:PROD or WP:AFD. DGG (talk) 04:01, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why thank you[edit]

My pleasure. Many's the time I've caught myself in a similar error, so I quite sympathize. Thanks for the article, by the way; if not for that I wouldn't have known about the collapse. (Pitiful American media...*grumble*)

Don't worry; I don't hold your dislike of Britten against you. Had you slandered Vaughan Williams, now... :-)

Thanks for the hardware, too - I shall add it to my shelf with pleasure. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:15, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's OK. We can still be friends, because Monteverdi sends a frisson down my spine such as few can manage.
I had to search for a couple of minutes on Yahoo! to find anything about the collapse. Even if it does get absorbed into the main article, it's still good to see something about it being written up. Although I'm starting to wonder if the main article's going to get much bigger, anyhow...it seems to have stagnated a bit. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:31, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Poulenc, eh? Talk about frissons - the last scene of Dialogues always gets me. I don't think it's working, and then inevitably with the last chord I find myself falling back into my seat. My father saw a performance in the original run of the iconic Met production; he still talks of it as a highlight of his opera-going life.
Good luck on the school collapse; I'd help, but for now I want to get every current member of the French Senate stubbed. It's kind of pitiful how many of them are missing. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:42, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Figure Humaine isn't a piece I'm familiar with, but I'll gladly make its acquaintance, thanks to your recommendation. I've tried the other operas - Mamelles is a trip - but Dialogues is far and away the best of them. His instrumental music, now, that I adore; I love the clarity of texture he brings to his best work.
The French Senate is more interesting than you might think, actually; it just gets a bit tedious after a while. Fortunately, I have work to distract me. :-) --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 21:52, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You think that's bad? Last week I stubbed each member of the parliament of the Seychelles. Then I realized what this said about my social life, and wept copiously.
Enjoy dinner - for myself, I shall try and find a place to put that misplaced letter before I go home. No sense in leaving it go to waste. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 21:58, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm an MSG, not a MCSG.[edit]

fyre! since you seem to have pull around here, go fix the title of this page and make it stick:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Security_Guard

not a soul in the world calls us "Marine Corps Security Guards."

We are Marine Security Guards, Embassy Marines, and a host of other nicknames... but not MCSG! no such phrase exists! -ep 88.114.41.212 (talk) 11:45, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a matter of pull; it's a matter of facts. If you can find 2-3 reliable sources (.gov sites would be great!) indicating that MSG is the name, then post them in the discussion and make your change. :) - chicgeek talk 12:00, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
thanks fyre :)... here is what i got:
http://www.embassymarine.org/
"..we keep America's Marine Security Guards close to our hearts..." and it is talking specifically about Embassy Marines.
ill take your .gov and raise you a .mil:
http://msgbn.usmc.mil/
"Marine Security Guards have been standing post for nearly sixty years..."
http://msgbn.usmc.mil/?pg=company/pub/school/Home
"The mission of Marine Security Guard School is to screen, train, process, and evaluate Marines for the MSG program. The school also provides training support for Marine Security Guard Detachments, Diplomatic Security Officers', MSG Battalion Officer Orientation, and Country Specific training."
Note that the term used is "MSG Program," not "MCSG." -EP 88.114.41.212 (talk) 15:13, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
i'm going to copypasta this over to the discussion on the article itself. although i know how to edit articles, i have no idea how to ~rename~ them. -EP 88.114.41.212 (talk)
Looks pretty good, EP, but can you find evidence for MCSG anywhere? If so, then both may apply, which isn't a bad thing. I can move articles after you've done more research, if needed. Currently there's a nice redirect to MCSG from the MSG URL. - chicgeek talk 15:34, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for renaming it, fyre... but you renamed it to the wrong thing! where did the term "Marine Corps Guard" come from?! :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.114.41.212 (talk) 15:45, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Cardinal Carter Academy Logo.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cardinal Carter Academy Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:06, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone knows that season 10 was the beginning of the end. EVERYONE. How can you disagree with the kunsensus?Faethon Ghost (talk) 03:42, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing as I haven't edited any articles, let alone Simpsons-related articles, to any large degree in the past two months, I can only assume that this is related to one on my contributions long, long, long ago. And seeing as this was from long, long, long ago, I fail to understand why you are following this up so late in the game. Regardless, anyone and everyone is entitled to their own opinions when a consensus (aka. "kunsensus") is being drawn, yourself included. Discuss, embrace, and accept these disagreements in opinion in order to form an unbiased article.
I do not directly remember, and do not care to waste my time checking, what my exact contribution was in this matter. However, I am fairly certain that my change/comment/whatnot was in relation to the relevancy and notability of the beginning-of-the-end contribution to a encyclopaedic article.

York meetup[edit]

Hi Chicgeek. Just to let you know there is a Wikimedia meetup being planned in York for Tuesday. —Tom Morris (talk) 15:02, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks dude! Unfortunately after four years in York I have just made the move to Vancouver. I guess I should update my information sometime... Cheers though! - chicgeek talk 04:42, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invitation to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
