Blacksmith[edit]

Please stop adding the list of famous blacksmiths to the Blacksmith article. It is apparently a random list of individuals and completely unsourced. There is no criteria for why some individuals are on the list (famous people who were also blacksmiths or blacksmiths who were famous for blacksmithing??). Furthermore, such trivia lists are generally discouraged on wikipedia in general. Also, such lists tend to grow with many non-notable individuals added and they become a vandal magnet. However, you can discuss this in more detail at the article talk page, or, should you choose, you could also create a separate article that would be an annotated list of blacksmiths if you feel it is critical that such a list exists. But please don't just keep re-adding the list. Montanabw(talk) 18:35, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

May 2012[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to World War I. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Old Moonraker (talk) 07:08, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations[edit]

Please stop adding external links showing people where they can illegally watch a film online, as you did at Taegukgi (film). Please also do not add the youtube trailer of a film to the external links section of an article unless the trailer was uploaded by the youtube user who holds the copyright for it. Weehawken military infobox[edit]

Your recent edit to the article for Weehawken, New Jersey reinserted a military conflict infobox. I'm not sure that the Burr–Hamilton duel is a "military conflict", as by that definition a gang shootout would be a full-fledged war, but even if it is the infobox belongs in that article, not in the article for Weehawken. As such, the infobox will be removed again. Alansohn (talk) 19:06, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Samuel Mason.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Samuel Mason.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:10, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on File:Tantoo Cardinal Metis Actress.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted content borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Non-free rationale for File:Anthony Caruso Bloody Jack Sturdivant.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Anthony Caruso Bloody Jack Sturdivant.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Non-free rationale for File:Samuel Mason Davy Crockett and the River Pirates.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Samuel Mason Davy Crockett and the River Pirates.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

A tag has been placed on File:Cave-In-Rock Grafitti.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

License tagging for File:Banditt hangings.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Banditt hangings.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

Orphaned non-free image File:Howest-flintp1.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Howest-flintp1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:36, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Neil Peart does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, Chitt66. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Queen's Rangers Lefferts.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Queen's Rangers Lefferts.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

File:Iron Brigade 7th Wisconsin Group.jpg needs authorship information[edit]

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Iron Brigade 7th Wisconsin Group.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Chitt66}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.

Please also add authorship and sourcing to other files you created or uplopaded. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:29, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Cecil Calvert and Governor William Stone.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cecil Calvert and Governor William Stone.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If you continue to remove images without relocating them or explaining your actions, you will wind up being reported for apparent vandalism. Quis separabit? 18:22, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am willing to believe that your edits to the article were made in good faith but they are not contributing anything of value and are twisting and contorting the text beyond its simple meaning. The Pre-Code Hollywood article was long ago rated a GOOD ARTICLE -- that doesn't mean it can't be improved, but your edits are not improving it and have been reverted by me. I don't know why you are so obsessed with the article but you need to cut it out. Start contributing positively to other articles, there are a couple or so other ones on this encyclopaedia, believe it or not. Quis separabit? 04:54, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The next time you change an article image to some moronic size (i.e. 500 px), I am going to report you for vandalism to WP:ANI. You are supposed to be here to build an encyclopaedia not play juvenile games. Quis separabit? 12:43, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Jeffrey Brace Black Patriot Historical Marker.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

January 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Floyd Collins does not have an edit summary.

I see lots of major edits to this article, but without any explanations. Also, where are the new citations to back up the new material? Stevie is the man! TalkWork 01:05, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Again, I am going to request that you start explaining your edits using the edit summary as explained above. It is difficult for other editors to understand the changes you're making without them. Also, I have to tell you that your overuse of commas is befuddling and you may want to do some study on how it is supposed to be used in sentences. And that's on top of the general mess you seem to be making of particular articles, such as Floyd Collins. See WP:CIR. If you don't start taking all this seriously, I am going to have begin considering some of your edits as "disruptive". Stevie is the man! TalkWork 14:39, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop uploading images[edit]

After taking a look through your uploads it appears like you do not understand the proper use of copyrighted images and how to correctly place them under fair use. I am asking you to stop uploading images until you can prove that you understand the fair use guidelines. They can be found here: WP:NFC, WP:NFCC, and WP:FUR. If you continue to upload images that violate fair use policy I will have no choice but to take you to the admin's noticeboard to ask them to put a stop to it. Copyright is a big deal here and repeated violations put the entire project at risk. Please stop until you read the fair use policy and can explain how it works. Thank you. --Majora (talk) 19:49, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations[edit]

Stop icon You have been warned on numerous occasions about Wikipedia's policy on copyright, but you are persisting in copyright violations. If this continues, you are liable to be blocked from editing. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:50, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apart from the images which you have uploaded as non-free but not provided an NFUR, as one recent example of your violation of the copyright rules you tried to add the existing image File:The-Man-Who-Laughs-(1928)-Gwynplaine.png to an article for which there wasn't a WP:NFUR. Provision of a valid NFUR for each article on which the image is used is not optional; it is compulsory. If you don't understand the copyright rules for images, don't make any edits concerned with images. If you don't understand the copyright rules in general, don't edit at all. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:01, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:Clara Bow Baby 1 Year Old.jpeg[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 08:03, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:De Lancey's Brigade Lefferts.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:De Lancey's Brigade Lefferts.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.

Orphaned non-free image File:Gold Diggers of 1933 Musical II.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Gold Diggers of 1933 Musical II.jpg.

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:31, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Red Dust 1932 Clark Gable Jean Harlow Movie Photo Card.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Red Dust 1932 Clark Gable Jean Harlow Movie Photo Card.jpg.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

File source problem with File:The Golem and the Dancing Girl 1917 Movie Poster.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:The Golem and the Dancing Girl 1917 Movie Poster.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Notice

The file File:Wayne's Legion in Battlejpg.jpeg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Kings Mountain Painting by Yohn.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kings Mountain Painting by Yohn.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --TheImaCow (talk) 05:48, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
