Please don't give up[edit]
I noticed your comments here. Perhaps the challenge here is that you're a bit ahead of the internet, or more particularly the practices of certain very populous countries on the internet. We can only hope that someday countries like China will not automatically block secure ("https") connections; however, they do now, to the point that even the WMF doesn't require logged-in users from those countries to access via https, despite requiring it for most other places in the world. There's nothing wrong with looking to the future and periodically assessing whether or not the rest of the world has caught up with your own vision. Wikipedia very much needs your idealism, so please don't give up. Risker (talk) 04:18, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

- @Chmarkine: Don't give up. We are still so early in the proposal that the outcome is not set yet. Plus, Jimbo's on our side! :) I am the proposer of this, and I haven't given up yet. I have undid your revision for now, but if you insist, you can always revert that.

- Hi Tony Tan 98, the link you give actually says that testing results are "contradictory", not that there was no censorship detected. China is notorious for turning things on and off with no apparent logic. Iran, Russia and other non-western nations also have the same issues. Risker (talk) 05:06, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Risker: Yeah, I saw that, too. If you click on the details, you will see that most of the time, the connection went through. I spend half of my time in China and I can say that as of January Wikipedia can be accessed through HTTPS. (It was once blocked, but it has since been unblocked for a while.) I understand that other countries may have similar issues, but I cannot locate any evidence/mention of that on the Internet. Thanks, Tony Tan98 · talk 05:13, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
