Xi'an's Climate[edit]
The Koppen map you are referring to is too broad and does not have a high enough resolution to delineate climates near border zones between different climates. Xi'an has a semi-arid climate, and this is why: A semi-arid climate is one defined as having less precipitation on average than potential evapotranspiration (the precipitation threshold) but more than half the threshold. You can find how to calculate the precipitation threshold on the Semi-arid climate page. If you do this, you will find that Xi'an's threshold is 565mm, which is greater than its average annual precipitation of 553.3mm as recorded by the China Meteorological Administration. This means that the climate is semi-arid (BSx) and because of the somewhat cold winters, it is a cold semi-arid climate (BSk).
As well, Aswan, Egypt, definitely does not have a semi-arid climate; it is far too dry and has an arid or desert climate, different from semi-arid.
