August 2019[edit]

Information icon Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:Dial-A-Poem Montreal, from its old location at User:Chuang726/sandbox. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. -Liancetalk/contribs 22:02, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Clifford Duffy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Joan Ruvinsky moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Joan Ruvinsky, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. nominating Ken Norris for DYK?[edit]

Hi Chuang726, and thanks for starting the article on Ken Norris (Canadian poet). I was wondering, have you ever nominated an article via the Did you know... process? I think this article would be a good candidate. Let me know what you think, and if you'd like any assistance. = paul2520 (talk) 22:36, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SpicyMilkBoy, thanks for your work on the article. Would you be interested to nominate the article for DYK, or help with the nomination if I did it? = paul2520 (talk) 04:21, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Paul2520, I'm going to be busy over the next few days and won't have much time to help with the nomination. Sorry! SpicyMilkBoy (talk) 13:18, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem, SpicyMilkBoy! I can do it. = paul2520 (talk) 13:37, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi SpicyMilkBoy Paul2520 That sounds great, I'd be happy to help! = chuang726 (talk) 16:53, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Chuang726 and SpicyMilkBoy: Ah, sorry I dropped the ball on this. I was saving it to the Thanksgiving break, but realize now that you expanded the article November 21 (eight days ago), but the DYK requirements say it must be nominated within seven days. Sorry! Let's try for another one in the future. = paul2520 (talk) 23:36, 29 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Some advice[edit]

Hi there, and thank you for all your articles on Canadian poetry. Many of your articles are being nominated for deletion, so I thought I would give you some advice on how to prevent this in the future.

To avoid deletion, articles have to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines and be backed up by reliable sources. The rule of thumb is that an article should have at least three citations to reliable publications that provide in-depth coverage and are independent of the subject. An example would be several paragraphs about the subject in a reputable newspaper, book, journal or magazine. Some resources that I find helpful for finding sources are Google Books, Google News and Google Scholar, the Internet Archive, and Newspapers.com. Also note that it's okay to use sources that are offline or in other languages.

Sources like university alumni profiles, CVs, and publications by organizations the person is a part of do not contribute to notability because they are not independent of the subject; neither do blogs or miscellaneous websites, because they are self-published. Interviews are not considered to be independent sources either. If you are unsure whether an article is notable or not, consider asking for help at the Teahouse or submitting a draft through Articles for Creation.

Finally, I noticed that many of the articles you've written are related to Dial-A-Poem Montreal. Do you have a personal connection with this project, or with any other subject you've written about? If so, that's fine, but there are some guidelines that have to be followed: see Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Basically, you will have to state your connection to the subject on your user page, and all articles related to the subject have to be submitted through Articles for Creation. If not, then that doesn't apply, but I'm curious what sparked your interest in the subject. :) SpicyMilkBoy (talk) 17:37, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SpicyMilkBoy Thank you for the advice, very helpful! A lot of these poets were notable in an underground scene so it has been difficult to find sources for them. Yes I am helping with writing wikipedia entries on Canadian poets in 80s Montreal for a Library and Archives grant. I will add that to my user page (once I figure out how!) = chuang726 (talk) 16:53, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
