Album notability[edit]

I think that it might be an assertation of notability to have a charting album even if no singles charted; however, I would say that such cases should be taken individually. As far as I can tell, there're no reliable sources for that artist, so they fail WP:V. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 20:04, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, I think we could do a lot better by converting this page, as well as Wikipedia:Requested articles and its subpages, into a category like Category:Articles with unsourced statements. That way, articles could be categorized by topic as well as when they were requested (eg, Category:Articles requested about natural science and Category:Articles requested since June 2008). There would have to be some way to make this category, either a software change (not likely) or tagging associated talk pages and a reminder that will prevent them from being speedied (WP:CSD#G8). Perhaps something like this could go to WP:VPP to get more attention? shoy 14:25, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I follow the mechanism by which this would work. Since the requested articles do not yet exist, how would we organize them into categories? I think I am misunderstanding this at a basic level. Chubbles (talk) 14:29, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, maybe just by tagging the talk page at the proposed article title. shoy 15:54, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It would take the maintenance of a large number of people, far more than we have. There is very little interest in article creation at this point, as far as I can tell. It seems to me that the majority of regular editors are currently working on sourcing, and tagging pages for cleanup or deletion, rather than creation, and those that are do not use the request pages at all. Chubbles (talk) 16:04, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there's always bots... shoy 16:05, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I guess...so the bot would search the page history for when the request was added and then tag it? I don't know how easy that is to code (I am not one myself) or how easy it would be on the database. But it wouldn't do much good without people who were willing to actually fulfill the requests. It seems to me that the real problem is that the pages only get longer, to the point where they are really quite useless because they are so long and unmanageable. Chubbles (talk) 16:09, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Right, but if they're organized in categories, they'll be less messy and easier to keep track of. Maybe we just run a bot one time to move everything we have right now to pages and then just direct people to tag the appropriate talk page instead of keeping a list. User:SmackBot can automatically add dates to the talk page tags in the future, like it does with a lot of other maintainence tags. shoy 18:56, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm going to post a link to this conversation on that talk page to see if anyone else has feedback on the idea. Chubbles (talk) 19:05, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Chubbles, will you help me with editing my biographical page? I am having troubles with uploading the documents / photo files that will provide substance or proof to a lifetime international career. I think you would know how to provide historical data that pertains if I only could send you the documents that are all in jpeg form. I do not have a publicist that would do this easily or the ability to find a good one. But I just read where you thought my contributions were advertizing. I am sorry you feel this way because it hurt my feelings when I am only trying at all times to have the TRUTH written about my career when other artists allow certain lies to be said to generate interest. I do not allow this nor ever have... that is WHY I beleive you could help me now. I believe the truth outlasts the lie and live by that fact which is hard to do in this world. I think you believe in that phiolosophy too. So will you help me? Please don't have my editing power blocked because it takes away my freedom to correct mistakes that someone might place as they did about my own Grandfather on All Music Guide which I am not able to correct. I have reverted the notability tag on this article. If it didn't assert some claim to notability, I would have tagged it Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#A7 rather than for notability. Wikipedia:Articles requested for more than a year[edit]

Hi Chubs. I figured out how SimonP updated the Wikipedia:Articles requested for more than a year page. Basically, Wikipedia:Requested articles divides all requests into ten topic areas. The topic areas are listed on ten subpages of requested articles and the date of the article request is take as of the day it is posted to a topic subpage. For each of the ten topic areas, a date of update may be selected. For example, AR3 red linked articles as of June 22, 2005 for Applied arts and sciences requests may be viewed with this link: June 22, 2005. The red linked items then may be gathered as a first red linked items list and compared to the current Applied arts and sciences|Applied arts and sciences page. Those items on the first red linked items list not on the current Applied arts and sciences article request page may be removed from the first red linked items list to create a second red linked items list. The second red linked items list may be posted to this page and the associated requests on the current Applied arts and sciences page removed (to prevent overlap in effort). This process may be repeated for each of the ten topic areas. Bebestbe (talk) 23:16, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Screamo[edit]

If you're talking about Alesana, all I did was question the use of AMG, which is notorious for giving incorrect catagories. The site may be useful in providing biographical information, but when it comes to genres, its pretty much useless (eg. they said that All That Remains was black metal). Yeah, I've been in several genre related edit wars, but in this instance, I did nothing wrong.--SilverOrion (talk) 06:54, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removing unsourced genres is not "pushing POV", if anything you're the one whos doing that by insisting on a genre that wasnt even sourced. Its quite simple really, all you had to do was find a source for it, which you had failed to do until now. Nice job butchering genres.--SilverOrion (talk) 23:49, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Allmusic[edit]

Yeah, same thing happened to me- I was alarmed how much my own bot was appearing on my watchlist. The first run (going through everything that links to All Music Guide in the article, portal, category and image space) has been finished now, there are just a hundred or so that were skipped for various reasons. After that, I think I'll just leave it to other editors to fix manually. J Milburn (talk) 14:47, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stick to Your Guns[edit]

I know that traditionally the word "to" is not capitalized when talking about a title of just about any work or author/artist, but it seems that the band actually prefers to have all the words capitalized in their name. This can be seen on their MySpace in the Title Bar (and the link on Google directing toward their MySpace. Though their actual logo is "Stick to your Guns". There is a constant mix between the two ways of writing it. What do you think should be done? - ~ TheSun (talk) 05:08, 22 July 2008 (UTC) ~[reply]

Re: Note[edit]

I actually disagree with what you are saying - the articles have to assert notability, and they do not at present, irrelevant of whether they're notable or not. I checked the articles you added AMG links to, and the AMG links actually do not give any reason to assert they meet WP:MUSIC. Take Dreams of Sanity as an example - they have three releases on a label called Hall of Sermon. Criterion 5 states that a group is notable if it "has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable)", and Hall of Sermon certainly does not fall under that. Please inform me when you have fleshed these specific articles out, and I will then nominate them at WP:AFD and leave the community to decide if they are notable. LuciferMorgan (talk) 13:30, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability isn't inherent, but has to be asserted. I am also not of the opinion that any Tom, Dick and Harry has the right to an article, and feel that WP:MUSIC should be stringently adhered to. Merely adding a link to AMG doesn't count - nothing in the AMG biographies you've linked to actually assert anything notable. I'm also disappointed by the following edit summary "Please don't make this difficult for me" - if I wanted to make things difficult, I would immediately nominate these three articles you've contested for AFD. I don't make apologies for taking steps towards combatting what I feel is the glut of non-notable metal acts on Wikipedia - metal editors need to remember this is Wikipedia, and not Metal Archives. I say that as a metal fan too, and not some person who hates the genre. LuciferMorgan (talk) 13:42, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To an extent, I can understand your concerns. However, unless a record label has an established track record, then it cannot be deemed notable. For example, I can burn off a group's music, put some labels on the disc, put it in a case etc., and call myself a record label - it isn't difficult. I'm not too sure I agree with your assertion that AMG is a good benchmark, though I am assuming there are reasons why you've contested the deletion of the three articles in question. I'm assuming that their presence on AMG isn't the sole reason, and that via some research you've found some reasons why the group's meet WP:MUSIC. I agree with you however as regards the inexperience of many of the people writing content, thus leading to poorly written articles. LuciferMorgan (talk) 14:02, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wish to take Changer to AFD - I'd like to know beforehand if you would contest its deletion or not. If you would, I can put the nomination off by a few weeks in light of your busy schedule so that you have time to properly contest. LuciferMorgan (talk) 00:01, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Concerto Moon[edit]

Can you add the fact the group has released two releases via InsideOut Music in the actual article? Since it doesn't currently specify this, it still qualifies for speedy deletion. LuciferMorgan (talk) 20:40, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please don't take it personally. Newport Backbay (talk) 17:10, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, I'm trying to learn the use of the tags. I did leave the reason off the article when i tagged it, but that's because I didn't want to speedy it. I don't think the band is notable. Anyway, good luck with the article. Newport Backbay (talk) 17:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help with music sources[edit]

Hi there. I am writing an article, and what I've done so far is here: Book of Love (album). Unfortunately, since it's an old album, I am having a real hard time finding good sources. There's no 'limited preview' books listed in Google Books which mention the album or its singles, nothing substantial comes up when searching on Thomson Gale's databases, and dozens of web searches have not yielded much either. Searches on Rolling Stone and NME did not bring up anything. Do you know of where I can look to find some sources for this? I'd be most grateful if you have any ideas. Thanks, — Wackymacs (talk ~ edits) 06:25, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Per WP:BLP and Category:Living people, all people under the age of 90 who do not have a definite indication of death must be listed in the Category "living people" (unless of course there are obvious circumstances, such as their disappearance, that merit their inclusion in Category:Possibly living people). I noticed that you removed the "living people" category from Daddy Dewdrop without providing a source. Could you please provide a citation for the fact that he is deceased? The Illusion and References (rather than links) to YouTube[edit]

I appreciate your reasoning as to why perhaps a YouTube clip should not be referenced (as opposed to linked), but the reason I referenced it rather than linked it is because the clip may well be in the public domain, as is much material from the 1960s (such as many of the television episodes of the Beverly Hillbillies, The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Lucy Show). Referencing the fact that something is on YouTube is, to my mind, informational only and does not amount to a breach of copyright or the encouragement of such breach. Is there an editorial consensus here?

Many thanks in advance for any second thoughts.

Speedy deletion of Racebannon[edit]

A tag has been placed on Racebannon, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. -- JediLofty Talk to meFollow me 09:23, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Jennifer Lin[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Jennifer Lin, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Jennifer Lin seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Jennifer Lin, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. I'm really new to uploading images, so I'm not quite sure an image I uploaded to portray blessthefall in their article fits the standards or if my fair use rationale is enough to justify it and avoid deletion, as such I'm asking for your help, could you please verify it for me and send me in the right direction since you're such a great helpful user? here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Blessthefall2008.jpg. -XClaudiox (talk) 03:31, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see. So I'd guess their permission for it's use bears no weight on such matter? Thank you for the help anyway. -XClaudiox (talk) 04:11, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Natalie Portman's Shaved Head requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

Non-dropframe (talk) 04:17, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the history of the article fully for you behind the properly created one, thank you for your efforts there, and another A7 has already been declined. As an extra note if you wish for a page to be unprotected in future you can just contact the protecting admin, you don't have to go to WP:DELREV. Jazz Barnstar[edit]

I award this Barnstar to Chubbles for their contributions to Jazz-related articles. Good work! (Mind meal (talk) 01:16, 30 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Vlad Tepes[edit]

I was rather confused by your comment regarding the Vlad Tepes AfD, and specifically a two sentence interaction I had with another editor; it probably wasn't appropriate for that to happen during an AfD, but meh. Regardless, your point seems to be rather different, and (unless I'm misreading) contrary to policy... assuming good faith does not mean assume an article is notable in the absence of sources. I'm basically neutral on the Vald Tepes page (as I've said, I'm a fan), but a couple of single paragraph reviews and interviews in fanzines doesn't pass WP:MUSIC. Monumentum[edit]

I've finally got round to actually creating an article on Wikipedia. Result is over at Monumentum... any feedback would be much appreciated :-) Blackmetalbaz (talk) 22:22, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article Heroin (band) was userfied to a subpage of the nonexistent user User:Cubbles by mistake. I have moved it to User:Chubbles/Heroin (band) because apparently you were the editor looking for the article to be userfied. If this was a mistake and you don't want the article, you can put {{db-user}} on that page to get rid of it. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 00:06, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of SNMNMNM[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article SNMNMNM, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Non-notable band, fails WP:MUSIC.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Bliss[edit]

Hello. I noticed you created Bliss (band) recently. Someone else has since created Bliss (Band, UK) which appears to be about the same group. It looks like these should merged but I thought I'd let you know first. Station1 (talk) 08:54, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
