that 74 million number is being pulled out somewhere by all Tamil websites. Since Tamil language article is an Featured Article (highest quality article in Wiki), it is better to have a number backed by a high quality source like encarta than ones reported by web portals and relatively obscure news services. I understand that the 66 million is probably out of date by a few years, but we will be getting the census numbers in a few months and then we can revise the number upwards--Sodabottle (talk) 16:31, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

First of all, I must apologize as I was too curious to update the featured article (Tamil Language) with non-standard website references. But, at the same time, I was worried that the total speakers in the info-box had not been updated for ages. I feared that it would wrongly be understood that Tamil speakers are counted 66 million in the present. Anyways, finally, I am now happy that you (Sodabottle) spent some of your valuable time revising the world Tamil population from a very reliable source (Ethnologue)! :-) Thanks, bro!
