Unspecified source for Image:Guy Velella.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Guy Velella.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - Tragic Baboon (banana receptacle) 17:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Citizen Dick

Nice edits. The new bit on Sandy Ground is what makes regional articles such a pleasure to read. With luck, our anonymous hotheaded friend will stay calm. I posted a title coordinate template that drops people on the corner of Rossville and Correll Avenues. If that misses the heart of the neighborhood, you're welcome to change, or drop me a note on my talk page if the template is too strange to deal with. Take care — Gosgood 14:19, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article has improved. Here's what I think:
  • The historical bits have a great deal of charm, but I'm a sucker for regional history. These constitute the heart of the article presently, in my opinion.
  • The article is beginning to read like a laundry list. Somebody mentions the church, then the fire house, then the new condos, then the neighborhood dog walker who has tended everybody's pooch for the last fifteen years. This is a common problem with city neighborhood articles. Take a look at my neighborhood, Park Slope, Brooklyn, which is growing lists and lists of things. At some point, somebody cleans up and restores some kind of narrative arc, and for their trouble they get yelled at by every neighborhood loving Wikipedian who wants their bit of fluff reinstated. This article is no where near that point, but the tendency is there.
  • The last section on 'aggressive developers' is weak and a bit over the top. It's not Wikipedia's place to comment on the nature of developers. Nor should Wikipedia speculate on why people left the neighborhood. Probably safer to say that Rossville has experienced a demographic shift: from a rural, farming community in the 1940's to a suburban community today. Google pulls up some stuff on demographic shifts on Staten Island that can lead to references supporting a neutral observation on the trend. One of the web links that our anonymous friend was so adamant about ("My Father's House") pointed to a memory lane recollection that addresses the shift. I wouldn't think of reinstating that particular link, though, because AOL member pages come and go, and can say the most outlandish things in the meantime.
  • Some pictures would be nice: not necessarily of the boatyard or graveyard, but maybe just a typical street in the neighborhood. Something that sets the tone. With the weather getting nice, I might prescribe a sea cruise for myself on the Staten Island Ferry and see what I can do with my digital camera. Drop me a note on my talk page if you want to do a wiki meetup. Take care — Gosgood 14:32, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Read my comment again in case you didn't understand it the first time. I am not talking to you in a "harassing manner". Please respond to my question either here or on the article discussion page. Thank you. (now that wasn't "hassasing", was it?) Citizen Dick 15:07, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you understand English? Please post only on topic discussion page. --XLR8TION 16:10, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Knock it off with the nasty attitude, would you? And another thing amigo: I'd like to request that you stop contacting me, as I don't wish to be bothered by you anymore. Citizen Dick 16:18, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on William Brady (mayor), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. See Harry S. Truman#Truman's middle initial for a rebuttal of the no-period story, which is the reason for the change made to the Stanley Jefferson article. Furthermore, the name of the school includes the period after the "S". If you see changes you don't recognize, click on the History tab, which will allow you to see the changes made and the edit summaries, as available. Alansohn 03:06, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information. Please read the comment which I just left on your talk page for an explanation. I went to Harry S Truman High School, and I distinctly remember that they never put a period after the "S" on any school signs or stationary, as it was explained that Harry Truman's middle name was "S"... the "S" stood for nothing! Citizen Dick 03:13, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for your work on the Stanley Jefferson article. I'm sorry if I reverted some of your edits. Please accept my apologies, as this was done inadvertently. I ran into a lot of editing conflicts while editing this article, as we were probably making edits simultaneously! I'd like to ask you to help me make sure that the photo of Mr. Jefferson which I added to the article is not deleted by Wikipedia for "copyright infringement". Any help that you might be able to provide to prevent it's possible deletion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Citizen Dick 03:07, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I will monitor as best as I can, but the folks who monitor the image issues seem to be remarkably rigid about these issues. Alansohn 03:09, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Stanley_Jefferson.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Stanley_Jefferson.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 17:28, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ben_Ward.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ben_Ward.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 18:38, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:FarrellLion.gif[edit]

I have tagged Image:FarrellLion.gif as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. Rettetast 18:38, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Rettetast, why are you tagging all of my uploaded images for removal?[edit]

Why have you tagged all of the images which I have recently uploaded to Wikipedia? I have been posting images (along with the required "fair use rationale") that are unfairly being deleted by you. I am especially upset that you have tagged Image:FarrellLion.gif for removal, as this image is a non-copyrighted illustration of a lion, which is the Monsignor Farrell High School mascot. If this is the way that overzealous/malicious editors like you operate here on Wikipedia, then I won't waste my time posting images or editing articles anymore. Copyright problems with Image:VincentThomasBridge.jpg[edit]

An image that you uploaded, Image:VincentThomasBridge.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. —Wknight94 (talk) 10:44, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From the source page of this photograph:
"Copyright Notice: This picture may be used freely for private, academic or research purposes only as long as both the photographer and Structurae are credited properly. Publication (printed, online or otherwise) or commercial exploitation of the image requires the permission of the photographer and/or copyright owner. If granted permission for use on internet pages, you must include a link back to Structurae — either to this page, the respective data entry or a general link. This photo does not violate any copyrights because the photographer has released it for free use provided that he was notified and attributed as the author. I obtained permission from the author and properly attributed him as the photographer, therefore this photo should not be deleted! Citizen Dick 11:53, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:Vincent Thomas.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Vincent Thomas.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:46, 12 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Wknight94 (talk) 12:46, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since any source or copyright information which I might add to the picture's description page will not be good enough for you, I'll save you the effort by removing the "copyright violation" photo from the article myself. This is the second photo which I have uploaded to the Vincent Thomas article which you have challenged. Do you have some kind of problem with me? Citizen Dick 15:50, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I came across your first image by chance. That led me to your second image. Everyone else - including me - has to account for where they acquired images so that Wikipedia does not get accused of stealing other people's images. That's all - no problem. Simply trying to adhere to Wikipedia's policies. If you just provide the source for the second image, it can be resolved. —Wknight94 (talk) 20:30, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Careful[edit]

Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 15:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am in fact familiar with sock puppetry, so what's your point? I have done nothing to you or to anyone else on Wikipedia, so I don't understand why you have blocked me from editing. I'm not trying to be uncivil, but it seems to me that you may be an administrator who is a little overzealous. Please assume good faith when dealing with editors. Heavyhandedness by administrators tends to drive productive editors away from Wikipedia. Citizen Dick 15:19, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm referring to this, and, for that matter, another of your sockpuppets, User:CyberGhostfarce. Being productive does not justify abusing Wikipedia. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 15:49, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I misunderstood your statement above, but are you now threatening to block this account because you allege that I am a "sock puppetmaster"? I have made hundreds and hundreds of constructive edits to Wikipedia, and to be honest with you, I am getting tired of dealing with administrators who seem to get a kick out of holding the threat of blocking the accounts of editors who may have committed minor violations of Wikipedia's rules over their heads. If you do in fact decide to block me, you will just prove my assertion that you are an overzealous administrator. Citizen Dick 16:05, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Shrug. When someone is accused of being a sockpuppet, and I notice they are also impersonating another user (in this case, User:CyberGhostfarce was impersonating User:CyberGhostface), I run a checkuser as a matter of routine. A standard part of this is to examine the contributions of other possible sockpuppets on the IPs that turn up; your use of two different usernames in that deletion debate was quite obvious. Hardly required any zealousness at all; until you started abusing Wikipedia, I had no reason to know you existed. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 16:27, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Would you please knock off the condescending attitude? Does being an administrator mean that you can belittle the contributions (or the existence) of a lowly editor like myself? Please get over yourself! Citizen Dick 16:35, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Would you mind telling me who you are and what I did to cause you to impersonate me? I've never even heard of you before, let alone edit in conflict with you. Unless this is just some bizarre idea of humor?--CyberGhostface 01:11, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
