A tag has been placed on GIE, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. I removed the speedy and turned the article into a redirect to Groupement d'intérêt économique, this page should stay a redirect until future additions of GIEs justify a disambig page... happy editing... - Adolphus79 (talk) 19:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dates[edit]

You don't need to change dates to suit a format you like, as you did here. The wikipedia software natively recognizes dates and presents them in a format of the choice of the user. Go to Special:Preferences and select the date format of your choice. The way it is encoded in the page would become irrelevant while still giving each user the control to format the date they want. --soum talk 03:24, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation of place names[edit]

Please use common sense when disambiguating place names. I noticed that you changed Nadine Dorries' place of birth to "Liverpool, England, United Kingdom, Europe"; I've changed it back to just "Liverpool". I don't know the official Wikipedia policy on such things, but surely one must not include "Europe", for fear of patronizing the reader. Similarly, one need not explicitly identify England as a part of the United Kingdom. And as Liverpool is a major British city, and the article is clearly about a British topic, there's no need to even include "England". — Wereon (talk) 23:25, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding fact tags[edit]

Hi, you are making several major changes to articles that don't need to be done. For instance, references are not required in the lead of articles because it is assumed that the information will appear elsewhere in the article and is referenced (if the information is not referenced when it appears again in the body of the article, then of course a fact tag there would be fine.) Also, you are breaking up paragraphs into several sentences and/or adding fact tags, when in fact if a paragraph has a reference at the end then it often implies that the entire paragraph is using that reference. Please read the information at WP:CITE for more information. Gary King (talk) 04:49, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dates are not required to be linked. Please read WP:MOSNUM. Please discuss your changes on the article's talk page if you would still like to make a major change to the article, especially because I have been working on it for months to get it to where it is now and your edit summary in particular doesn't convey well what the edit changed. Gary King (talk) 05:16, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We might have to agree to disagree. Date autoformatting is a powerful feature which allows dates to be displayed as the reader prefers them to be, and it is used widely in most articles of major interest. Even if technically optional, I can see no good reason not to use the full capabilities of the wiki templates to make life easier for both wiki editors and readers. CiudadanoGlobal (talk) 05:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There has been a recent major push to remove date autoformatting from articles; the discussion spans dozens of pages. If you really want to learn more from someone who can explain the reason as to why date autoformatting is discouraged, then User:Tony1 is the person to ask. Goodbye[edit]

I'm thinking that it's a waste of time for me to contribute to Wikipedia. Huge amounts of time are wasted (for absolutely no compensation) making edits which are not always appreciated and are reverted for often trivial reasons. I have decided to refocus my efforts on specific technical writing projects which will likely pay more in the long run than Wikipedia (they could hardly pay less). Thanks.... Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
