Just in case you were in fire and forget mode when you sent the complaint (it should have gone to the article's talk page), I've replied pointing out that your complaint is based on the wrong character and that there is at least one citation for a problem with the phrase, although that doesn't seem to mention the exact reasoning quoted.

The words you contest were added in this edit by Lao Wai. I suggest you ask him, on his talk page as to what he used as the bsis of the remark. He should be able to cite a source. If he does, you should ask him to make sure that it goes into the References section and also that a link to it is made against the actual statement in the text.

You might also want to see if you can track down the Taiwanese original source for the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reference, and work out what other garbling has occured in that (besides not understanding that the characters are traditional and simplified forms of the same word). My Chinese isn't good enough for that, and I learnt with simplified characters.
