Orthodontic Technicians Association Conference 2008[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Orthodontic Technicians Association Conference 2008, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Orthodontic Technicians Association Conference 2008. AfD nomination of Edinburgh 2008[edit]

I have nominated Edinburgh 2008, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edinburgh 2008. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Your contributions[edit]

There is some concern that some of your contributions to wikipedia fall outside the encyclopedic and into the territory of, err, cruft. Two cases in point: Dental Technologists Association Council and Orthodontic Technicians Association Council. The concern relates to the biographies of members of the councils of the two organisations. Articles should focus on the subject of the article (in these two cases, the associations) and not stray into territory which should be covered in discretely titled articles. So, for instance, the content on Stephen Wears should be in a Stephen Wears article ... and we would naturally then question whether Mr. Wears is notable enough for his own article. Exactly the same principle applies to all of the named individuals in the two articles.

I do not think that many of the listed individuals would pass the notability test (WP:N). It follows that their biogs should not be in wikipedia, especially not under the cover of another article. (The associations presumably have websites where they can disseminate this information.)

I herewith invite you to consider wikipedia policy on notability, and to withdraw the inappropriate elements of both articles - which for me would be the biographies and the footer template, and any redirects in the names of the individuals. I advise that should you not choose to do this, others will edit the articles, with perhaps less sympathy for them than you would have.

I invite you to consider all other of your contributions in the same way. I have, to date, looked only at the two associations, and a now deleted conference.

Finally, I invite you to consider WP:COI. I think the probability that you have a COI is extremely high. The likelihood is that you are one of the representatives of these professional bodies. On that basis I am sure you can be trusted to act professionally in this instance, by abiding by the letter and spirit of wikipedia policy and guidelines, and by not seeking to subvert wikipedia for the benefit of the associations and council members. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:07, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You might get a few of these coming through as you clean up. If you wish, I can clean up the redirects next week, or you can keep pointing them to the main articles. Don't worry. Many thanks for your current input. --Tagishsimon (talk) 10:15, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Orthodontic Technicians Association, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
