The big red button

Perhaps the giant "shutdown" button is a bad idea...someone will press it sooner or later... RadicalTwo (talk) 18:43, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

It's only useful to sysops. The reason it's so big is, well, why make it small when you can make it big? More chances of a panicking sysop being able to click it with his/her jittery mouse cursor in an emergency ;) SMC (talk) 23:35, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

ClueBot got it wrong, (then refused to talk to me)

Hi. ClueBot got a vandalism reversion wrong (ID: 821808). Granted the edit was by a new user, who didn't quite get the formatting right, but it is pretty crook if any genuine attempt, especially by a new editor, is looked upon as vandalism. Cluebot seems to think that learning on the job is a hanging offence! Anyway, when I tried to report the false psoitive, ClueBot spat the dummy with the following error:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 113 in /afs/acm.uiuc.edu/user/carter11/public_html/cluebot.php on line 5 Error.

CluBot III stalled on archiving KAL007 Talk Page

CluBot III started archiving the Talk Page of KAL007, on October 24 and then stopped that process after its last move, on November 8th. See the KAL007 Talk Page history at:

[[2]]

That history states that the Bot is creating an archive page with the number "6". However, to date, there is no posted link to archive number six, on the Talk Page. The last link to archives, is number "5".

The only way to review archive number six, is to go to archive number 5, and then change the number 5 to the number 6, in the URL box. After doing that, I found that one section of the Talk Page that was removed to archive 6, is the section with the title "the Hersh/ Ewing scenario and pilot awareness of deviation"

That section can be found in archive number 6, if one looks at it in the html editing box, however, that section does not show up on the archive number 6 page.

Question: Will that section finally show up on the archive 6 page, when the bot finishes its work on that archive page, and if so, when will the bot complete it? EditorASC (talk) 19:33, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

THIS GANGSTER AMERICA WHOEVER WASTE THERE TIME IS A DOUCHBAGAHAHA

It was very openminded of Cluebot to label the contribution cited above ^^^ as "possible vandalism" and to leave open the possibility of a false positive.
Thank you, Cluebot, for your graciousness and magnanimity.
You are an inspiration to us all.

ClueBot flagged a merging incident as vandalism

I tried merging the Dark Angel (Arches National Park) article with the Arches National Park article, and since I'm new here I accidentally blanked the Dark Angel (Arches National Park) page, and ClueBot flagged it as vandalism. --The Utahraptor (talk) 03:22, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Fixed

Template X1 is a sandbox template...

Also, STOP MAKING Revert Bots WP:R3 or what not is most certainly violated.

And finally, STOP MAKING REVERT BOTS. Wikipedia does not need more clueless bots reverting everything that looks like a page blank, and having bots flag me for "vandalizing the sandbox" is absurd

Archiving bug

Cluebot III did something wrong and Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 67 has now wrong header and doesn't contain some threads that should be there. The archive broke with this edit. Svick (talk) 14:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

There are still problems there: the latest edit duplicated 3 sections, and I cannot find the section "Auto-complete unclosed bracket redux" removed with this edit on Nov 11. — AlexSm 20:54, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Where's ClueBot?!?!

Hasn't been active the last couple days... :( A8UDI 14:56, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

I do not know why ClueBot has stopped editing abruptly. Is there anything wrong with the bot? It's not blocked, as the latest block was on October 17, 2009 (a mistake or a bug). However, the other ClueBots seem to be fine. Last edit November 19, 2009.  Merlion  444  15:38, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
No contribs over the past 3 days! :( A8UDI 16:46, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
First, AntiVandalBot (ceased functioning April 4, 2007), then MartinBot (ceased functioning on October 1, 2007), after that VoABot II (ceased functioning on October 6, 2009) and now ClueBot! They have all ceased functioning! BTW, I think there may be an ongoing fix on ClueBot for maybe several days or even weeks (I may be wrong about this)! P.S. to A8UDI, when you put "No contribs over the past 3 days! :(", it was actually one day at the time when you saved it.  Merlion  444  16:33, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Well I'm oh so advanced in math. lol. still, something doesn't feel right without cluebot :(... It's a serious slap in the face without cluebot.. (rhetorically speaking) A8UDI
It is suspected that ClueBot III and VI has abruptly stopped editing along with ClueBot. Check the contributions (see the date for last edit) for evidence.  Merlion  444  10:28, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

ClueBot Report by Protactinium-231

  • ClueBot II is still active.
  • ClueBot III has ceased functioning.
  • ClueBot IV has ceased functioning.
  • ClueBot V has ceased functioning.
  • ClueBot VI has ceased functioning.

23191Pa (chat me!) 14:52, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

NOTE: ClueBot V was not yet approved long time ago, so probably stopped editing in 2008. Thanks for confirming the status of the ClueBots, Protactinium-231.  Merlion  444  15:35, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Monthly headers

Is there a way to keep ClueBot from leaving duplicate headers (e.g. when there's already a November 2009 header, and ClueBot adds another)? Enigmamsg 19:17, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Just noticed ClueBot hasn't edited since 11/18. Is everything ok? Enigmamsg 01:36, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Not okay, see report above.  Merlion  444  15:35, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
I've noticed that on the page on each ClueBot where it says if it runs or not, ClueBot II has "True" with a period (.) at the end of true, so it says "True." with the period at the end, and he's the only one operating. None of the other ClueBots have a period after the word "True", so maybe if a period was added at the end, they would all operate again. --Hadger 20:12, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
That's probably not true, because the page User:ClueBot III/Run hasn't been edited for almost a year. I think that if the bot was changed recently so that the period would suddenly make a difference, the operator would be active. Svick (talk) 20:45, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, maybe since ClueBot II has been active with the period at the end, the other ClueBots could've possibly became confused, and maybe that caused a glitch that occurred with the ClueBots. I think that even though it probably wouldn't make a difference, we should try adding a period at the end of all the "Trues"s. It can possibly make the ClueBots operate, because if you look at User:ClueBot II/Run, you can see that it's the only one with a period and the only one operating. --Hadger 23:04, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
What I'm trying to say is that it may have not been the operator who changed it. It could've just been a glitch that occured with the ClueBots because they could've been confused due to ClueBot II being active with the period at the end, and maybe that caused the other ClueBots to assume that they could only run with the period at the end of the word "True." --Hadger 23:07, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Cobi has made recent edits to the ClueNet wiki, so I would consider him "active" in regards to ClueNet. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean he's been making changes to the bots themselves, but I think he would at least know what his bots are up to. So anyway, should we transition to manual archival or a different bot while we wait for an update? Or could that confuse ClueBot III when/if it returns? Reach Out to the Truth 21:10, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

I think I will see what happens if I add a period at the end of "True" for ClueBot III. If it doesn't make a difference, I'll remove the period for ClueBot III. --Hadger 23:32, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Nope, it didn't make a difference. I wonder why ClueBot II is the only ClueBot that is operating.... --Hadger 23:45, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Unable to declare False positive due to SQL error

I have a page edit that ClueBot has incorrectly tagged as having obscenities in it (as I misspelled 'as' with 2 s's), with ID of 741117. (the method to have to find that ID is pretty painful, why can't it list that id in the plain text of the message it gives you?)

I followed the link to report the false positive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:ClueBot/FalsePositives) and then clicked on the link to report it (http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/~carter11/cluebot.php), and put in my id number and received: "Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Host 'www2.acm.uiuc.edu' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server in /afs/acm.uiuc.edu/user/carter11/public_html/cluebot.php on line 5 Error."

I would really like to be able to report this false positive and clear this slur on my name :P —Preceding unsigned comment added by Spoco2 (talkcontribs) 00:36, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Hm. That's odd. I wonder if it's related to the fact that ClueBot isn't actually operating any more. Reach Out to the Truth 01:05, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
