Andrea Michaels[edit]

Hello!

I am a new user and have written a draft article (profile)on Andrea Michaels, a noted pioneer in the special events industry. I've saved the draft. Since I am not an auto-confirmed user (4 days membership and 10 edits), I would like to know what the next step is to taking this article live?

I have two head shots to upload, but know that I have to wait to be auto-confirmed. In the meantime, once the article is acceptable and the appropriate time period has passed, how do I take the article live on Wikipedia?

Thanks, Carol Cmckibben (talk) 20:11, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't want to wait until you're auto-confirmed, you can submit the article to WP:Articles for creation. As for the pictures, do you know what license they will be uploaded as? Once you are auto-confirmed, you can head over to Wikipedia:Upload, but make sure you know about any permissions required to put it up on Wikipedia or Wikimedia.
I hope that helped! If it didn't, feel free to ask any other questions on my talk page. Happy editing! EWikistTalk 20:28, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)

Cmckibben, please wait for about 5-10 mins; I was looking at this, at the same time.
I will write more here, quite soon.  Chzz  ►  20:31, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I moved it to a subpage, for now, User:Cmckibben/Andrea Michaels. That frees up your user page to put information about yourself, if you want; I've added links on there. You can have as many subpages as you like; I put links to a couple of other non-existent ones; see User:Cmckibben.

It's not ready to be made live, right now, for several reasons;

  • You don't need a heading at the start, because when live, the name of the page is the heading. And you start with the article title in bold. So, it now begins with '''Andrea Elizabeth Michaels''' (nee Gerson; born December...
  • For section headings, instead of '''<big>Early Life</big>''' (for example) you put == Early Life ==
  • For bullet-points, such as the awards, just use an asterisk at the start of lines - e.g.
* Apple
* Banana
* Sausage

I've just edited it, and made the above changes.

However, there are other things that you'd need to fix, too;

  • You have used external links within the actual body-text, and that is not permitted; they should only be in a section at the end, == External links == - and then, only if they help understand the article. You should only have a few external links - maybe about 3 or 4, typically, for this type of article. Please see WP:EL
  • Not all the facts have a reference. For example, born "December 14, 1943" - where can we check that? All the facts need a reliable source, and that is particularly important in a biographic article
  • Some of the claims are not appropriately referenced - for example, you say the book "has been widely-acclaimed" using Amazon as a source; that isn't appropriate; you'd need to show a reference to something like a newspaper, for that kind of claim.
  • Avoid vague terms, such as large-scale events for thousands numerous magazine articles - WP:WEASEL. Avoid peacock terms, too, such as a sought-after international speaker Having a creative mind. Most importantly, it needs to be neutral - please, read that link.
  • You have used several websites as references which are not reliable sources - such as YouTube, Facebook, and blogs. You should only use truly reliable sources - such as newspapers, books, etc.

Please try to address these issues.

If you can, then yes - as the other person said - you could submit it for a review; to do that, you could put this at the top of the article - just as shown here, with the wiggly brackets;

{{subst:AFC submission/submit}}

  • Regarding the pictures - as long as you are the copyright holder for them, you can upload them to Commons (at that link). You don't need to be 'auto-confirmed' for that.

Last thing - sounds like you have a conflict of interest - please read that link very carefully.

Welcome!

Hello, Cmckibben, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! I hope all goes well.

Remember to click on Save Page, and do it often. I would go so far as to say to click on Save Page after every paragraph or every time you leave the computer. On your own Sandbox page you can simply type a period or full stop (.) or a single slash (/) in the box at the bottom of the screen where you are suppose to indicate what you just did because nobody else will care about your Sandbox edits. Hello, again. I am answering the question you put on my talk page. I don't know what happened before, but right now you should be able to get to your rough draft by clicking on User:Cmckibben/Sandbox1. I am sorry your are having so much trouble. Sincerely, your friend, GeorgeLouis (talk) 06:17, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, GeorgeLouis. I will work with that and see what happens. I'll let you know! Thanks again.Cmckibben (talk) 15:24, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Andrea Accepting AwardCropped3.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Andrea Accepting AwardCropped3.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MorganKevinJ(talk) 22:49, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re. Michaels[edit]

I thought it best if I tried to answer here.

Adding the image[edit]

Re. File:Andrea Accepting AwardCropped3.jpg

| ¦

The Vertical bar might look like either of these symbols, on your computer.

It looks like you were trying to use forward-slash instead of the 'pipe symbol' or vertical bar, which looks like this |

The correct syntax is,

[[File:Andrea Accepting AwardCropped3.jpg|thumb|Put a caption here]]

I added the picture with this edit.

Chzz: When you are reading through the file, the caption should read: "Andrea Michaels Accepting 2006 Gala Award." Do you ind making that correction? Or at least changing the date from 2005 to 2006 in the cap?Cmckibben (talk) 16:18, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Permission for the picture[edit]

I asked the people with access to that system - the OTRS team - to have a look, but they could not find the email.

Therefore, please could you re-send it, and;

  • A) Please include the exact filename - "File:Andrea Accepting AwardCropped3.jpg" - in the subject line
  • B) Please make sure that it includes the exact, formal text giving permission. An example is shown in User:Chzz/help/myboilerplate
  • C) Send it to photosubmission@wikimedia.org
  • D) If you don't mind, please 'cc' me a copy of it; my email address is Chzz@live.co.uk

In the meantime, I have marked the picture as "OTRS Pending" [1] which should prevent deletion while we sort it out.

Chzz: I will do today. Thank you.Cmckibben (talk) 16:04, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox article[edit]

It looks much better, thanks.

I'd like to tidy up the references somewhat, and have one more read through; I will do that, during the next 24 hours. After that, if you are happy for me to go ahead, I can make it a live article. Please just confirm that.

Best,  Chzz  ►  11:12, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chzz: Yes, please! I so appreciate all your help! You've been wonderful!!!Cmckibben (talk) 16:05, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

---

OK; great. I'm working on the refs, in-between other things...so, yep; I'll just tidy up a bit, and make it live, within 24 hours. Thanks.

The pic isn't so urgent, but I'm sure I'll see the email and sort that out, some point in the next few days. Chzz  ►  16:21, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are the best! Thank you for your help!Cmckibben (talk) 16:38, 9 February 2011 (UTC))[reply]

I've done quite a bit, to make the references better, and some fairly minor formatting. And added an 'infobox'.
I'm still working on it; actually, I've now enlisted a friend to copy-edit it a little.
You'll see any changes in the page history.
Oh, also, BTW - we've actually ended up with two pages; we started with User:Cmckibben/Andrea Michaels, and now we're working with User:Cmckibben/Sandbox1 - it doesn't matter; I'll get those two merged together, in a bit (they might be merged by the time you read this, in which case 1 will 'redirect' to the other) - don't worry about it; it's just nice to get all the history of the pages into one place.
Ongoing. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  17:49, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now live, Andrea Elizabeth Michaels. Thank you for your patience, efforts, and contribution. I hope you decide to continue improving Wikipedia.  Chzz  ►  20:10, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chzz: You are simply the best. I can't thank you enough for your help! I will definitely work harder to become a better contributor! I haven't looked at the finished product yet but just wanted to thank you!Cmckibben (talk) 15:55, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chzz: I reviewed the live article 2/10/11 at 10:30 a.m. Pacific. I just found four things that I think need to be edited, and I don't dare go into it right now as I'm not sure if you're totally finished with it. They are: 1) could you change "2005" to "2006" in the photo caption? 2) Footnote numbers 37 and 44 should read "Jon Michaels" and not "John Michaels; 3) Footnote #48 Should be "What's on the Pillow?" not "What' on the Pillow?" Do you mind making these changes since I don't want to mess up anything you've done! Thanks! Cmckibben (talk) 18:46, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Picture permission[edit]

Hi.

I'm sorry, but I hear there is still a problem with the picture permission. The trouble is, the photographer - the copyright holder - didn't state the exact terms; the portion from him does not give the explicit permission we need.

I suggest, the best solution would be to ask him to complete the same release, which was in the email, and for him to send it to the same address, photosubmission@wikimedia.org, again putting the filename in the subject line.

Sorry about the trouble; copyright permission can be complex. We need to be absolutely clear that he, the copyright holder, understands the terms he is releasing the picture under.

I hope you understand; please let me know if you can arrange for that to be sent, and again I can follow up on it. Best,  Chzz  ►  20:02, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi: The photographer/copyright holder completed and sent the release this morning (2/17/11). Please let me know if this is or is not sufficient. Thank you for your help.Cmckibben (talk) 21:58, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is "in the system" - it might be a few more days before we hear back. The pic won't be deleted or anything, in the meantime. And whether it is accepted, or for some reason it isn't, I'll certainly let you know. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  22:47, 18 February 2011 (UTC
The permission has been accepted, filed away, and the file File:Andrea Accepting AwardCropped3.jpg has been marked with the unique OTRS reference. So, that's it, all sorted out. Thanks for your patience. I'm sorry it was so complicated! Cheers,

Request Edits[edit]

{{helpme}} Hello, I have contributed an article entitled, "Andrea Elizabeth Michaels." This article went through a deletion review and was approved to "keep." However, it has been suggested that the article displays a "conflict of interest." I do personally know the subject and actually edited a business autobiography that she wrote. However, I placed the article on Wikipedia because I wanted to create a series of articles about pioneers in the event production industry. There is little to no encyclopedic information about this multi-billion-dollar industry, and I want to try and correct that. (I currently am working on another entry on one of my test pages of another prominent figure in event production.) I am placing a "Requested edits" on this site for my "Andrea Elizabeth Michaels" article. I would appreciate an experienced editor/contributor to edit the piece to resolve it of its "conflict of interest" issues. I have gone over it numerous times and am not sure that I am resolving the issues. It's the old saying: "I can't see the forest for the trees." Can someone please help me? Thank you. I did put a request on the Conflict of Interest page but didn't get a response. Cmckibben (talk) 15:26, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A conflict of interest, alone, won't get an article deleted. You're welcome to edit an article over which you have a conflict of interest, however, we highly request that you very carefully read over the conflicts of interest guideline, which details, among other things, issues relating to the potential problems of maintaining a neutral point of view—one of our core policies—while avoiding original research and promotional material. --slakrtalk / 21:28, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I have read over all the policies and can definitely modify it. I was just hoping that another contributor/editor might look it over and edit it. Thank you very much for your advice.Cmckibben (talk) 00:18, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for helping Wikipedia!

Resolving Conflict of Interest and Link Issues for Andrea Elizabeth Michaels entry[edit]

Hello: I have substantially edited the entry which I created on "Andrea Elizabeth Michaels." I did so in order to remove "close affiliation" and "conflict of interest" issues and to try and provide some internal Wikipedia links to other event planners/producers.

My question: To whom do I now submit the article to determine if it is acceptable in order to have the "confict of interest" and "orphan" boxes removed?

I truly appreciate all the help that I've received on this article. I personally know and have worked with Andrea Michaels; therefore, it was a challenge to not use inside knowledge when writing it. I've currently tried to substantiate everything. I am trying to build the event planning/production category and recently entered an article on Robert (Bob) Jani after writing the one on Michaels. The Jani one seems to be acceptable so far.

Anyway, please advise who I submit the Michaels entry to see if the the warning boxes can now be removed. I've tried to find this information on the Wikipedia site, but it alludes me. Thanks! Cmckibben (talk) 16:26, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The "orphan" tag means that at the time the tag was added, Andrea Elizabeth Michaels had fewer than three articles linking to it. (You can see how many articles link to it by clicking "What links here" in the toolbox to the left. Be sure to ignore any non-articles that link to the page.) I checked, and zero articles link to it. Reaper Eternal (talk) 17:10, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To Reaper Eternal: I put internal links to 3 other Wikipedia pages within the Andrea Elizabeth Michaels page. They were to "Event Planning," "Tommy Walker" and "Robert (Bob) Jani." Is that not what Wikipedia means by linking articles? Cmckibben (talk) 20:24, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've tagged the talk page with a Wikiproject tag for biographies. Thus to gain a wider audience you can ask at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Biography, for editors used to that type of article, to review the page.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:19, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you linked from the article to other articles. That's good, as it prevents articles from being dead ends. However, what the "orphan" tag means is that fewer than three other articles link to Andrea Elizabeth Michaels. (See [2]) Reaper Eternal (talk) 20:34, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reaper Eternal, thank you. I will go into the other articles and link to Andrea Elizabeth Michaels. I am also working on gathering other resources to cite on that page. Thanks again. Cmckibben (talk) 00:59, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Resolving multiple issues for Andrea Elizabeth Michaels entry[edit]

First and foremost, this entry is not an autobiography. I am the contributor and am not Andrea Elizabeth Michaels. I have gone back through and eliminated all questionable resource links/citations and have cited all facts with reputable sources such as books, magazines, newspaper articles, legitimate Web sites all written by other people. There are over 40 footnotes verifying information in this article. I have added 3 links to the article from other articles and vice versa. I would appreciate knowing what more I can do to clear up these outstanding issues. I have edited or entered other articles all relating back to event production/planning and want to do more, but I really do not want to move forward until I can clear up the issues with this entry. I am not being paid to do this work and have tried to be as non-biased as possible, leaning only on the facts that I can substantiate for it. So I do not see a conflict of interest for this entry. Do I know this particular person? Yes I do. Am I making up information about her? No, I am not. Someone please tell me what more I need to do. Thank you so very much.
