Colback[edit]

Écréhous Peter & Danielle Colback were lent a hut on Maîtr'Île for 10 days from 17 March 1989 as a wedding present. A fisherman from nearby Rozel ( a fishing port on north east Jersey) kindly took them out there with food, supplies and importantly their own water a day after their wedding. Whilst there there was a wonderfully peaceful honeymoon, a raging storm, a single French visitor and fishing by laying of trotts. The French visitor on realising it was their 'marriage de vacances' (honeymoon) swiftly left to go back to his boat. He reappeared shortly afterwards with all he had on board consisting of 3 oranges and 2 bottles of Normany cider as his wedding gift.

Your article on the Palace[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for your contributions. I cleaned up your article on the Clam-Gallas Palace quite a lot, as you will see, and I added the appropriate image. I was forced to rewrite the text, as almost all of it appeared to have been copied directly from a website that had a clear copyright notice at the bottom of the page. You probably did not know this, but any text which is protected by copyright is supposed to be rewritten completely from scratch before it is placed in Wikipedia. Actually my clean up of the text is probably not sufficient, but it is a start. if you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me on my talk page. All best wishes to you, Invertzoo (talk) 00:06, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions from other Wiki Users; many thanks[edit]

Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, Colbackp, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:50, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

When to add links to an article[edit]

Hi Peter. I reverted your edit to Alphonse Le Gastelois because the Wikipedia Manual Of Style says that "generally, a link should appear only once in an article" - see MOS:DUPLINK Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 16:14, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Understood. Kind Regards,

Peter

Speedy deletion nomination of The Friends of Julian of Norwich[edit]

Hello, Colbackp,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username John B123, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged The Friends of Julian of Norwich for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|John B123}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
