Welcome to Wikipedia, Colinbyfleet! I am RP459 and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Welcome! (and data protection issue regarding citation on IGKT page)[edit]

Hello Colinbyfleet and welcome to Wikipedia! I just noticed your recent edit to the IGKT article. I have moved your concern to the talk page of the article, Talk:International Guild of Knot Tyers, so that it can be discussed further. There I have solicited further information about your concerns.

I am very happy to see other members of the Guild registering here. (My presumption is, of course, based on your telling username!) The quality of the knot articles on Wikipedia is quite uneven and the Wikipedia Knots Project can always use help with improving them.

Please be aware, however, there are a number of policies that govern the editing of articles on subjects with which one has a close connection. The main policy in this regard is the one covering Conflicts of Interest. While the policy does not completely prohibit editing articles one has a close relation to, great caution is advised when doing so. Here is a link to the section of that document on avoiding conflicts of interest.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask at my talk page. And I look forward to additional information regarding the data protection concern on the IKGT article's talk page. Best regards, --Dfred (talk) 20:40, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is a followup to my previous note... After thinking about it a little I decided the citation was problematic for other reasons, namely it wasn't verifiable and thus is probably better replaced by something that is. Since the Guild's website now has most of this information stated, I'll switch the reference(s) to point to that. And again, let me know if you have any questions regarding how you can help contribute to Wikipedia. --Dfred (talk) 21:58, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
