Welcome![edit]

Hello, Collaborative Pianist, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited was User:Collaborative Pianist/sandbox/Laura Loewen, which appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Hello [User:jmcgnh] , thank you for your message. I'm not entirely sure how to use a Talk page, so I hope I'm doing so remotely correctly. I would like to clarify that the article I created was not about myself. Dr. Loewen and I both work in the same field. Where do I go from here?

Thank you. Collaborative Pianist (talk) 04:17, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you're doing it just fine. That's a bit of a delay, though.
People who do what you do are often given little coverage, so it can be hard to come up with the sort of published material from which we can construct an encyclopedia article. With Loewen, she could be considered under the notability criteria for her university teaching or for her musical achievements. Based on what you have in the sandbox, it looks like she falls a bit short on either front. If you can find other published information about her that will satisfy any one of the criteria in those two documents, that would be the thing to have to advance the draft to the next step. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 04:29, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

{{help me}} Hi, and thank you for your feedback. I've included a bit more information that includes a national award she received/was elected to (Royal Society, which is a specific example in the link you gave me about university teaching). I've modelled the page after an article I read on my colleague, Canadian professor/collaborative pianist Steven Philcox. Does that help?

Thanks! Collaborative Pianist (talk) 04:44, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd have no difficulty in recognizing notability for a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, but I'm going to have to ask other editors about whether the College of New Scholars is similarly qualifying. See (you can also participate) WT:Notability (academics)#Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. I'll comment on the draft to point to this discussion. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 07:34, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
