Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. On the Greenwood, Mississippi article, you added here that John Williams "arrived by flatboat". The citation at the end of the sentence was for page 7 of this book. I wasn't able to find any mention of a flatboat. Where did you get this information? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:13, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Anne Webster's guidebook on Miss. genealogy here has a reference to my source on John Williams. Hamilton says on page 41 "The first settlement at G'wood was made by a flat-boat man named Williams, who built a shanty on the bank and for a time exposed his wares for sale. Richard McConnell was among the first merchants and he had interests at Carrollton...In a few years Dr. McLean, Allen McCaskill et al bought lands and their success influence others to join them in subduing the forests". Here are three map references for the road connection to Carrollton:

I have a special interest in flatboats as many Miss. settlers came via flatboat. I spent my childhood near Greenville at Leland. See my flatboat bibliography I researched at WorldCat here.Church of the Rain (talk) 04:11, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've just reverted a bunch of your edits. I'm not sure why you are adding barely referenced text, or photos that have little to do with articles, but it's really messing up a lot of articles. Please stop. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:52, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest[edit]

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

About the COVID-19 timeline for November-December[edit]

Hi there! I was just laying last hands on a rephrase of the timeline for November/December last year, when I noticed your contribution. This, about the very recent newspaper talk about a first case in France 27 December. You are most welcome to have a look at the talk page and, very very soon, also a fresh article view. My wish is that the academic approach should prevail, and that is not easy, firstly because I'm not an academic myself, but also because there are many newspaper sources in the article. It's really a matter of judgment. I think the information that comes from France these days should be recognised as scientific in nature, and best given on, not through newspaper articles, but through academic articles. I have found the published paper that speaks of the information (doi link) but it does not make me any wiser, and my subjective approach is to shy away from letting the article be a frontline for first published controversial reports.

Otherwise I see no problem, ie. that the case is from France. It is a textwise bewildering contribution, and should therefore be given some context, which is not impossible. But, from the above reasons, I do not include the new information in the rephrased edition. I still find it is undue. Sechinsic (talk) 19:43, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"The subject"[edit]

This is a really weird way to write. I have never seen this sort of stilted language on Wikipedia before. Please revise your edits to use their last names or a simple He or She. Reywas92Talk 01:46, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The subject means the subject of the article. See [1]https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/subject Church of the Rain (talk) 02:30, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not stupid, I know what the word means, I'm saying that's poor writing and you should write like a normal person with the the last name or a pronoun as the sentence's subject rather than this unusual way. Reywas92Talk 22:26, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm writing in English and if you understand the meaning and others do too... that should be enough. I don't think style really matters if it maintains clarity and readability. Loosen up some. Church of the Rain (talk) 02:37, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My teachers of writing said not to use the same sentence structure, but utilize short sentences, compound, clauses, & c to add variety and interestingness Church of the Rain (talk) 02:49, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Further explanation is 'the subject' is the most important thing to say as they have a Wikipedia entry. They are a notable, not that are of a gender, of a surname, or have a title. I can accommodate you if it is too formal or weird, but sometimes 'the subject' is fitting. Church of the Rain (talk) 03:29, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This has absolutely nothing to do with sentence structure. This weird word choice does not make it more interesting. Reywas92Talk 02:41, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see at least four other users have also fixed this unusual writing: [2][3][4][5]. Please don't use "the subject" again. Reywas92Talk 14:00, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Make that eight: [6][7][8][9]... Reywas92Talk 14:09, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On the entry on Paul E. Kahle, the editor 'corrected' my usage by mucking the meaning up. Warshy wrote " In 1909 the he discovered leather puppets near Damietta, Egypt used in medieval puppet drama." Not an improvement for readers. Please fix that. The personal pronoun according to most writing textbooks is a hazard when several persons are mentioned and the antecedent is unclear. That is why, on occasion, it should be used. To prevent further mucking up of Wikipedia, I will accommodate the forms you insist on. Church of the Rain (talk) 01:10, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
