Routes

Thank you for your contributions to the metropolitan routes of Johannesburg and regional South African routes. As someone who spent a fair bit of time on them a few years back, it is good to come past and see someone carry on the labour. I know the pain of looking at multiple mapbooks and online sources and getting conflicting routes. No, but it was rerouted at some point (probably when they deprecated the M6? The current M6 is I think reused...) I haven't been based in Johannesburg since 2012, but route signs are not well-marked. @Nswix: Did a literature search of SA news publications and searched the Financial Times. Nothing of note to increase the article's notability. Wikimania 2022 in South Africa

Wikimania 2022 is almost here (11-14 August 2022) and will be held entirely online this year with the exception of a number of local mini-Wikimania's for local community members. I just wanted to let you know that two local Wikimania mini-events will be happening in South Africa; one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg. Participants will be able to attend both the international event from these local events. If you are interested, available and in the area at the time we would be delighted to have you join us. Citing the "Route Section" on Road Articles

Hi there.

I wanted to bring to your attention the last topic I brought up on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Highways yesterday, where I was talking about certain editors erasing the "Route" section of road articles because not a single paragraph contains a citation. If any paragraph would have a citation, they would leave that one and erase the rest, leaving the section as Incomplete, forgetting that we are describing a route from start to finish.

Overtime, I became very-convinced that only the "Introduction" on route articles needed a citation, just like we did on R511 (South Africa), M11 (Johannesburg) & N18 (South Africa) but a certain editor has proved me wrong. I guess that rule is only being enforced on "some" articles.

Recently, I created the M18 (Pretoria) article in the same format as many South African Roads but when I checked it out next, I found only the first sentence was left under the "Route" section while the rest was erased. Who starts a story without finishing it & is this ethical? Then, I also went to check the M6 (Pretoria) article and found the "Route" section erased.

So, is a GPS (such as OpenStreetMap and Google Maps) the best website to use as a "source" for a "Metropolitan Route"? Because I can't seem to find proper ones for that road classification. Chils Kemptonian (talk) 12:51, 21 September 2022 (UTC)

@Chils Kemptonian: Hi Chils. Yes, I am aware of the conversations on the Highways talk page. Asked a similar question years ago and yes it should be cited to some degree. South African Border War infobox

I’m reaching out because there’s currently a discussion underway to strike references to supporting actors (like the Soviet Union and other socialist states) from the infobox for South African Border War. This seems disingenuous given the degree of the USSR’s involvement in that conflict, up to and including Soviet deaths and injuries during SADF combat operations.
