Coaching[edit]

Hi there; certainly, I am happy to look through your contributions and come back with comments. As you have at this moment just over 2,100 edits, it will take me a day or so. I will get back to you ASAP.--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 11:26, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK; would you like my comments here or by e-mail?--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 20:35, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Either/or, really. Whichever is most convenient for you, although there is something to be said for keeping everything in on place. Coren 20:40, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will reply by e-mail. Tomorrow, now, because it is gone midnight on this side of the pond and I am going to bed shortly.--Anthony.bradbury"talk" 23:11, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DRV[edit]

I'm not sure exactly what you were asking us to do at DRV but we are not part of the dispute resolution system. Merge ≠ delete and since you weren't asking us to overturn the AFD there really wasn't anything for us to do. Sorry, but I closed the DRV. Spartaz Humbug! 15:48, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't Bite the Newcomers[edit]

I think you need to read THIS. You're behaviour towards someone new to the wikipedia community is something you should be ashamed of. I'm doing the right thing by you, letting you know I am planning on making a formal complaint about your referring to me as a "meat/sock puppet", and your suggestion that the sole purpose of my joining wikipedia was to argue about one article (when I have already contributed to other articles, whether in discussion or editing).Cazza411 16:26, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pot? Meet kettle. At any rate, if you require help with the merge, just ask and I will gladly give you a hand. If all you are interested in is conflict, you will find little pleasure in my refusing to let myself be goaded. (Posted to both my and your talk page since I'm not certain which you expect to find the response on.) Coren 16:33, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not interested in entering into a flame war with you. Additionally, since I did not write the page and have no personal vested interest in it, I am not moving the page myself. I simply disagree with the decision that it should be merged, and disagree with the manner in which the argument was held, particularly your comments and the way in which you seem to deliberately take things out of context to suit yourself. I've also been following a lot of arguments you have made on many other pages and you constantly make abusive references to people arguing with you, especially new people. I had planned to be a contributor to wikipedia, and really think I could have made a valuable contribution to the editing of scientific articles, but I don't want to deal with people like you. I'm leaving.Cazza411 16:42, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

SWsoft[edit]

Hi Coren,

I have begun recreating a wikipage for SWsoft and understandably received a notice that the new page is up for speedy deletion. I understand the reasons for the notice; however, I am not near finished with the page and am hoping that other wikipedians will jump on board and add content as well. Please do not delete the page. It is truly a work in progress.

Hi Coren,

Thanks for the tip! I will hope that it's given a chance for others to add to it, but if it's deleted that's okay. I very much want to conform to the rules, and I understand the reason for vigilance.

Questions about page marked for deletion[edit]

\I'm a newbie to wikipedia, so I'm still learning the ropes. A page about TJ Norris was marked for deletion. I'm not sure I understand why. He is a force in the art community here in Portland Oregon, and should be listed (imho). What can i do to help prove that the page about him is not spam and should not be deleted? when I google "tj norris" I get over 1,040,000 hits, and the first three pages are all about him (I didn't go deeper, I'm sure most of the pages are about him as he doesn't use periods after the t and the j in order to stand out a bit)

thanks Paul Lee Adams 02:03, 29 June 2007 (UTC) June 28, 2007 - Paul Lee Adams[reply]

Well, there are two problems with the article, neither of which is unsurmountable.
  1. There are no claims to notability in the article. The guidelines are rather stringent when it comes to biographies of living people since those articles could be used to promote or attack (neither of which are desirable objectives for an encyclopedia).
  2. The sources I can find do not qualify as independent, reliable sources for an encyclopedia article. While Google does return a fairly large number of hits for "TJ Norris", most of those are either trivial coverage, or self-published information.
By the way, when you want to google a proper name, you usually want to enclose it in quotes "TJ Norris", otherwise you also get hits of "TJ" and "Norris" in isolation. Using the quoted name you get 15,000 hits or so (which is still fairly large), but all of those I have seen are either self-published, directories or trivial coverage.
So, what you need to do is: find, in the guidelines for notability of people, the way in which TJ Norris qualifies; then find a reliable source to back it up. Once that's in the article, it'll be home free.
If the article gets deleted before you succeed, don't give up. You can rewrite the article in a subpage of your userpage (such as User:Paul Lee Adams/TJ Norris), polish it until you're confident it establishes notability, then move it in its final place.
If you want, when you feel it's ready, just ask me and I'll take a look at it to help you finishing it before the move so it gets no chance of deletion.
Good editing! -- Coren (talk) 02:38, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Passport to Israel wiki page[edit]

I am not sure why this page was deleted by you. It seemed that it was deleted so fast that it was not even possible to read it in entirety. This program is over 50 years old. It's a benchmark program in its field with an alumni community in the tens of thousands -- all of which makes it notable. There are other similar peer programs which are included in Wikipedia. Seems like this action is unfair and is worthy of further review The preceeding unsigned message was left by User:Greena1 at 14:56, 29 June 2007 (UTC) [reply]

To whom It May Concern[edit]

Hello, i believe that your deletion of my article (Beau Slatter) was uncalled for. even though i happen to know this person, he is a very good musician and has a lot of talent. so why can I not make a page about what he does. it isn't an advertisement for his band. it is a documentation on the person in question. The preceeding unsigned message was left by User:Zac sakrewsk at 04:58, 05 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He may well be talented and one of the best musicians of the world, but until he has notability, he will not be a suitable topic for inclusion in an encyclopedia. This is no reflection on him, but simply on what is needed for an article. — Coren (talk) 04:58, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV on PTDI[edit]

The articles (PTDA, and PTDI) were proposed to be informative only. They could even be considered for a specialized subject tag in my opinion. It is important first that a consensus form about the neutral point of view. The article is not proposed as an endorsement. It would be of an academic interest if other non-profit organizations of this type around the world could be listed by Wikipedia. Thanks for the note. James Nichols[edit]

Thank you for reviewing my article on James Nichols (murder suspect). Unfortunately you marked it for deletion before I had a chance to fill it with good content. single thought[edit]

I was about to write to you to the same effect. I worded it as junk is junk. --I think of myself as an advocate: I will say what can be said, and if I have time find what can be found, and the group can judge if its enough. But as you can see I do not comment on 90% of the items at AfD.

While I'm here, I too had doubts about the Nichols article above, and almost speedied it as BLP. DGG 16:24, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Given my speedy, your close was proper, but it is usually expressed as Speedy delete for BLP, not as "Moot." But since you mentioned it, I checked Twyana Davis again. It discusses her conviction for a particularly obnoxious crime--all based on a video of the trial. However, since other sources were asserted but not given, I myself am not sure I did right, so I've just told the author a properly sourced article might be able to stand. Given that we're opposites, we can correct each other DGG 16:48, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As for two people to delete, I fundamentally agree with you but I came to realize--even before I became an admin--that there are about one thousand edits a day of utter & unquestionable trash. The difficulty is defining where that category ends. New ideas for this are welcome at WT:CSD. DGG 17:05, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You added this edit [1] -- would it be possible to comment in more depth on the talk page? If the actual findings are mischaracterized then thats important, but the gist of both media reports is that unique auditory symbols (names, calls, sound waves) are shown to be recognized as associated with (or responded to by) specific individuals. Right now your edit's completely uncited and unsupported, in WP:CITE terms, and the removed text isn't. That's fine, if the edit's good, but means others can't check it. Can you reference and correct or cite a good version what was found? Thanks!

A good place to discuss this further might be on the articles talk page. FT2 (Talk | email) 00:01, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:The Namaste Guild and username guidelines[edit]

I almost hate to bring this up in the middle of the AfD and with a sockpuppet charge against him(/her), but it just dawned on me that User:The Namaste Guild is likely a violation of the username guidelines, because it's the name of an organization. I'm all about assuming good faith, yet I also notice that the user refers to the organization in the first person. It's really starting to feel more and more like a promotional effort to me. Again, I don't want to fan the flames right now, but at the same time, I wanted to mention it. —C.Fred (talk) 03:36, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inclined to agree. Once he realizes that the article won't be allowed to stand, he'll go away on his own. It's a why-bother sort of thing, but still, another angle that does exist with this user. —C.Fred (talk) 04:03, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commonwealth Baptist college Afd[edit]

I think you closed it much too soon--in general we consider all colleges notable, and the argument that it could be deleted under A1 & A7, made in the discussion, needed a reply. The thing to do now is to revert your close. DGG (talk) 16:15, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Humberto Guzmán Fricke[edit]

Please stop nominating this article for speedy deletion. The article states that he was the former head of the central bank of Bolivia. Speedy?[edit]

Hello Coren. The stub that I just created (an was working on) does not fall into WP:CSD#A7. You may notice that one of the members of the band Amistades Peligrosas has her own article and notability asserted, thus bringing Amistades Peligrosas totally within WP:BAND. Also, may I ask you to have a look at this essay? Thank you and keep up the good work. Regards, Húsönd 16:47, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I didn't feel insulted. :-) You made a good point about the garage bands that included a member who later became notable. But still, this is not the case. Amistades Peligrosas is a very well known band. I was surprised that it didn't have an article, that's why I created the stub. I'm sure that me or someone else will soon expand it with discography and achievements. Best regards, Húsönd 16:59, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GENESIS article[edit]

The GENESIS Simulation system is not a product and not available for sale. It is freely available over the web.

There are approximately 700 universities as part of the GENESIS developers consortium.

the other simulation system used in a similar manner for computational neuroscience is Neuron - which has an entry in Wikipedia —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Neurocompute (talkcontribs).

the article specifically indicates two historical aspects of this software system. One is that it was one of the first software platforms to be parallelized and run on the Intel's first line of massively parallel supercomputers (with the wikipedia link to that article included)

the second is that it is one of the first open software scientific computing platforms, as well (that linked as well).

third, GENESIS formed the basis for the first ever course in computational modeling of the nervous system, conducted in woods hole in 1988.

all three make GENESIS of historical interest, and therefore worthy of entry in wikipedia, in my opinion.

In addition, as I have already indicated twice, The simulation system NEURON, which is the other (free) system used around the world to build realistic models of the nervous system already has an article in wiki. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Neurocompute (talkcontribs).

I will make the suggested changes, although, in my opinion, adding the historical context makes the article more interesting. However, I understand that point about external independent references. I will try to find them -- but, baring that - will remove the 'firsts" tone of the article.

Franchising Information[edit]

To Coren: RE: change to LIST OF FRANCHISES Coren I believe you edited the page called 'list of franchises' in which I had posted information linking (external links) to articles on franchising and links to lists of franchises. The intent of the information was to provide users with general information on franchises in world (many less known than the normal companies) and articles on franchising. I think the links were misunderstood since they linked to a commercial site but they were meant to be educational. Can you re-post them or let me know when I can without them being taken away? Fudzilla's G11 request[edit]

Well - I may have placed my thoughts on the AfD request for Fudzilla in the wrong plce - I havent felt so compelled to use wikipedia for anything but info for awhile. But i would much aprecciate it if you didnt put my comment up for deletion because it opposes yours. I just had to point out something extraordinarliy ironic. I commented on the AfD because fudzilla itself brought the AfD to my attention. BUT you noted on the AfD page, your own opinion, saying that "we might get alot of support for fudzilla appearing out of nowhere" due to the article fudzilla posted on this disgraceful mess. You vouched that fudzilla was not noteable - then why ON EARTH would you say you might get ALOT of support out of nowhere for fudzilla? Apparently they dont exist, according to you. I suppose the 100+ google returns, or the 2000 articles fudzilla has published dont phase your regime to get the article delted. Nice job blatantly contradicting your own support. And also - how on earth does that article scream "we need traffic" either I have a godly view of fudzilla, or this article makes fudzilla out to be unreputable; it is borderline slander on the site itself! Nowhere in there does it say anything that could be considered even remotely supporting the website. I suppose the "fudzilla employee" who you believe wrote this article just holds an extreme grudge on her place of employment, or takes the "devil's advocate" viewpoint a little too seriously. Unless the public believes a website that gives out "false information" that is often "untrue in the end" is one to be visited - your reason for the AfD is pretty much squashed. I mean no disrespect, but this is my opinion. Harsh? Yes. But then again, so are your comments on fudzilla's article. 67.168.70.142 05:06, 10 July 2007 (UTC) Arxinal (Still doesnt work for Fudzilla)[reply]

Lists of songs whose title constitutes the entire lyrics no consensus[edit]

I admit it was a tough call and I should have explained it more (but it was late). Had TenPound Hammer not changed his vote, I might have been more inclined to see it as delete. But also, I couldn't really see clear-cut reasons for deletion being stated ... you could just as easily have said many of the delete votes were IDONTLIKEIT, either.

Anyway, perhaps in the future we will have a more clear consensus on some more of these song lists ... many of which, I remember from the time they were created back in 2005, were sort of dubious from the get-go. Frankly, some of them were long overdue for deletion. Daniel Case 14:05, 10 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Final warning[edit]

Could well be, but remember newer editors often really don't have any idea of what we consider to be Bad Things To DoTM. Try to give them a bit of guidance first in a case like that. If they ignore it and go right back to what they're doing wrong, the hammer can always get brought down at that point. You'd be surprised how often it works, though. Subhuti Dharmananda[edit]

Hey, is it asking too much to let stubs alone for the first 24 hours so people have a chance to finish them? This article isn't advertising, its a bio about a guy and his nonprofit who has made major changes in the way Chinese medicine is practiced in the United States. I have no affiliation with him, he is another in my biographies of notable herbalists on Wikipedia. Anyway I have expanded the article enough that you should be able to take down the speedy delete for advertising. KSVaughan2 16:44, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I echo KSVaughan2's concern. It's good that you're diligent, but marking an AfD for notability in the time it took me to create the page to adding the categories is a little too much. --scruss 02:40, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

and ...

Hi again, I had another look at this. I don't think the procedure was followed correctly. Would you mind fixing up the errors above. Thanks, Fred 10:41, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The instruction string, quoted above, appears on the page at the bottom of the deletion banner. I don't know if that is normal, I don't use them or TW. When I edit the page, the links given at the bullet points above appear. If this was my doing, I apologise for wasting your time. However, I had a look and could not find any other cause. Should there be a mergefrom tag at the uni article perhaps, it would seem appropriate for what you have proposed? I don't know what needs to be done in these circumstances, but if it has been done "as usual" and no one has seen a problem before, I wont bother you with it. Check on it, if you think it is important. Regards, Fred 16:01, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article regarding International Enterprise Singapore[edit]

Hi Coren, I believe there is a case to be made for including this article. I first considered contributing when I saw this as one of the links without content yet on the page "Statutory_boards_of_Singapore". It is an organization analogous to others such as JETRO (Japan's export promotion agency), as well as Austrade. which have content on Wikipedia. I agree it does not yet have global recognition, this is partly due to it's relatively recent name change from the Trade Development Board. I had not finished editing the article, and I intend to put links to the website as well as sources to ensure it is verifiable. I hope there is a case for reconsidering the speedy deletion of the article.
