Welcome[edit]

Hi Covington, how about a formal welcome to Wikipedia! And welcome to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Education! Uh, this is where I'm supposed to add a load of useful links, but you obviously don't need these. But, still, do let me know if you need a hand with anything and I'll see if I can help in any way. Cheers! Cormaggio @ 00:59, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for collaboration.[edit]

Hello,

Thanks for tagging the Call of Cthulhu Collectible Card Game entry for wikification. In the future, could you please use the {{wikify-date|April 2006}} tag in place of the {{Wikify-date|{{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}}} tag? There is an effort underway to make it easier to sort through articles that may require wikification, and using the suggested tag would be very helpful.

Your assistance with this effort will be greatly appreciated. P.S. The convention is to place the {{stub}}, and {{uncat}} tags at the bottom of any entry; all other tags are placed at the head of the entry.

Help Requested[edit]

I would like to clean up my userbox subpage. I would like the userboxes to be lined up two in neat rows, like this:

o o

o o

o o

I looked through the formatting help, but I could not find anything besides the white "userbox boxes"; They helped, but the page still looks chaotic.

I want others to use these userboxes to find me if they want someone to help them with their article, thus I want this page to be as easy to read as possible.

If you could help me with this, I would be very greatful. Thanks in advance. Covington 18:40, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I think you can divide one column of userboxes into two (or more) by using the "Boxboxtop" and "boxbottom" templates again for the userboxes you wish to separate out. Hope this helps — TheKMantalk 19:19, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

Hi. I am sorry to bother you but I wondered if you might be prepared to take another look at my RfA nomination. The main reason that I ask this is because there has previously been some confusion as to my talk count and I also wonder if there might have been some confusion regarding the duration of my contributions. I would also like to comment on some of the concerns raised by others, which I have discussed on the nomination page, but which you may not be aware of.

Firstly with regard to my talk contributions and the duration of my contributions. I just wanted to clarify that I do have substantial numbers of contributions in the user talk namespace although significantly less in the main article and wikipedia talk namespace, so I do have a good history of interactions with other users but primarily on their user page (furthermore I have a good track record of warning vandals - something is often lacking for many vandal fighters both admin and non-admin). Regarding the duration of my contributions, I just wanted to clarify that I have now been contributing for 15 months in total and, although I have had a few "lean" months when my focus have been outside of Wikipedia, I had almost 2000 contributions before February and there have been 9 months when I have made 100+ contributions.

WIth regards to the concerns raised by other, which aren't covered by the above, they seem to relate primarily to my lack of contributions to the article talk and wikipedia talk namespaces and what this says about my community involvement and exposure to process. Firstly I would like to say that I don't think my contributions in this area are particularly low when compared to other current nominees and recently created admins who are/were heavily supported (I have provided some details on this in the comments section of the nomination) - as I said in the comments section this is not to say "they are supported so why aren't I", rather it is just to provide a benchmark to compare how common my contribution pattern is. Secondly I would like to point out that I do not typically revert vandalism in these namespaces which I believe play a significant part in the number of these contributions for vandal-fighter editors (especially in the article talk namespace). Finally I would just like to reiterate my personal opinion that, regarding edits to Wikipedia talk, contributing and understanding are different things (i.e. I do understand the policys and guidelines even though I have not actively contributed to them). With regard to my community involvement, I do have a fair number of edits to the mian Wikipedia namespace and also the user talk namespace as previously mentioned.

I understand that contacting you in this way may well be considered "campaigning" but I want to assure you that I am driven by good practical intentions rather than ego. As you will be aware, I am primarily a vandal fighter and I feel that the admin tools will allow me to far better serve the community in this area. Specifically I come across a lot of situations were there are very few editors on RC patrol and a lot of vandalism is being missed, this is compounded by the fact that AIAV is often not being heavily monitored during the same periods meaning that blocks are delayed and a lot of time is spent reverting vandals who have already received a final warning. This extra time spent reverting known vandals obviously mean that much new vandalism is missed - with the obvious effect on the quality and credibility of Wikipedia.

I would like to sum by saying that I feel I could make good use of the tools and that I have never done anything to raise concerns that I would misuse them. Cheers TigerShark 20:57, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

You put a {{wikify}} tag on Mary Mahler, but it looks wikified to me... I didn't want to just remove the tag without asking you in case you had some good reason. Could you explain what else you think the article needs?

Thanks, Hbackman 21:32, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've responded on my talk page. :) Hbackman 23:40, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I just thought of one more thing that might be useful for you to know in the future. In addition to {{wikify}} and {{cleanup}}, there are the templates {{wikify-date}} and {{cleanup-date}}. These note the date on which the article was tagged so that the list of articles with these tags can be sorted by date and the older articles can be attended to first. To use, say, {{wikify-date}}, you would enter: {{wikify-date|Month year}}. Hbackman 17:52, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I want to let you know that I will do my best to address all concerns that were raised during the RfA. I will also do my very best live up to this new responsibility and to serve the community, but please let me know if I make any mistakes or if you have any feedback at all on my actions. Welcome to Esperanza[edit]

Welcome, Covington/0000, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee , KnowledgeOfSelf, JoanneB, Titoxd and FireFox. The elections have ended.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact me via email or talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to be!

Thanks! _-M o P-_ 06:34, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

Fair chance[edit]

In all fairness, might I ask if you also read the other comments on the page/answers to questions, etc? I believe that I should be given a fair shot at this, and I have provided quite a bit of detail in the questions below that you may want to refer to. I happened to be checking out the page if you were wondering why I have responded so quickly:) Cheers --Jay(Reply) 23:57, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The reasons for supporting me weren't sufficient enough. Fair. However, if you are willing to support me, in the future, why not stay neutral. You have to understand that this event is quite time consuming, stressful, and plenty of thought has been put into stating my case. Other opposers have stated their reasons, and to the best of my knowledge, each and every valid reason for opposing has been addressed. I may be very wrong about this, but perhaps if you had visited the vote say when it was 5/0, your vote would have been different. I don't know. But what I do know is that since you have provided me with insight into why you feel uncomfortable supporting me, I am handcuffed right now - feelings can't be debated. Thanks for your input. --Jay(Reply) 00:22, *11 April 2006 (UTC)

My RFA[edit]

Thanks for your vote.

Hi, this is Matt Yeager. I wanted to thank you for your vote on my request for adminship. The count was something like was 14/20/5 when I decided to withdraw the request. My decision was based on the fact that there are enough things wasting people's time on the Internet that doomed RFA's shouldn't be kept up for voters to have to think about. Regardless of the rationale behind your vote, I hope you will read this note for an extended note and discussion on what will happen before I make another try at adminship (I didn't want to clog up your userpage with drivel that you might not be interested in reading). Thank you very, very much for your vote and your time and consideration of my credentials--regardless of whether you voted support, nuetral, or oppose. Happy editing! Hi, if you've changed your vote from Oppose to Support at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Jedi6, could you cross out your entire vote in the Oppose section and add your name to the Support section, and update the tally accordingly? Userpage Award[edit]

Hi there. Would you like to step in for Gryffindor on the Esperanza Userpage Award as a judge? I see you are signed up as an alternate judge. All you need to do is pick your favourite and then judge the five finalists, e-mailing the scores to Rune_Welsh. Thank you! Regards Banez 12:31, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great, many thanks. However, you must not e-mail the finalist to Rune, rather, list your favourite from the 3 userpages (Judge 1 gets the first 3, judge 2 the second 3, and so on) at the bottom of the page. Then, you need to judge each of the five finalists and e-mail your scores. Thanks Banez 13:43, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
